The other day I posted some Murid artwork, and the more I thought about it the less satisfied I felt with that creature design. Admittedly, it was an idea taken from from D&D with little alteration. I thought “that’s just not creative at all. You can do better.”
Meet the Murid V2!
Muridae hail from the isle of Muridia. They are tall, slender rodents with 3 horns atop their head and a long whip-like tail. They have 5 toes on each foot, which they use to grab onto things.
Muridae have no particular magical affinity, making them magical wayfarers... and wayfarers they are! These ratfolk are well-known to be accomplished in many areas of the magical arts. However, they are especially good at potion-making.
They have an unfortunate stereotype for being crafty and sneaky. Not all Muridae are like this, but enough of them are to make any traveler wary. Exercise extreme caution if you meet a lone potion seller... you may be tricked into buying something you don’t want, or worse.
In their home island, Muridae are highly protective of their intellectual property. Good potion recipes are hard to come by, and they will guard these like family heirlooms. Muridae can be found scouring the continent of Zaltera for potion ingredients, or maybe some good trade secrets... if you’re willing to part with them.
Another key feature to this intelligent race: their undying rivalry with Fellids. Nobody really knows how it started, but it doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. The two races just do not get along.
I’ll make a post about Fellids in the near future. Keep an eye out for it!
