that post about mob psycho having a title that makes it sound like a hyperviolent edgy anime in english got me thinking about how funny that juxtaposition is with how the show Actually Is. the resolution of a major arc in the third season literally hinges on the fact that the main character is wearing the most godawful fuck ugly shirt on earth and everyone is too polite to tell him it sucks. as a direct result, a giant broccoli flies itself to the ocean and it's a legitimate tearjerker. a bunch of the antagonists definitely think they're in an edgy organized crime show--until half of them end up giving up their life of crime because they got made fun of for beefing with middle schoolers so hard by a 27-year-old in a cheap suit that they decided they'd rather work at a grocery store.
greatest psychic of the 21st century!! i never finished this one but i always liked it a lot… though in hindsight it’s a bit busy.
i love mp100 dearly and i drew this guy way way too much so expect more sometime
A collab nobody asked for but you're getting it!! Frick you!! It's about the useage of superpowers as a metaphor for the autistic experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Note that this was drawn before Kara has been revealed in Maws so I dont know what age she is so if she's too old for Tome just read it as a teen crushing on a celebrity who would never reciprocate)
Have I changed?
The theme of loneliness in mob psycho hits so deeply. Dimple just wanting to be recognised and seen by others. Tome, scared that she's alone on this earth, looking for life in space. Ritsu feeling so left behind by and insignificant next to his brother. Teru, after nearly killing mob, begging him to stay with him because he doesn't want to be the only one with such powers. Toichirou going mad because he's lacking positive human connections. Serizawa scared of hurting others isolating himself completely. Mogami, too, going crazy because of how deeply and utterly lonely and hopeless he is. The entirety of claw, being rejected by society and angry and sad about it. Reigen using and trying to manipulate mob but losing all his positive, deeper connections after it goes sideways, and still pretending to be something he's not because he doesn't want to be rejected or abandoned. And don't even get me started on mob.
yes mother i am studying for my exams
I really like those moments where Mob is like why are you being mean? Don't you know you should be nice? That you should always try to be better and nice and gentle and respect people? Why be mean and bad? You should know it is not correct. Come on let's do better.
And then like people do better and change. And I like how many people change and see they are wrong.
sorry maybe one day ill stop being mad about how the anime adapted the confession arc but today is not the day because im stuck thinking about how much of a blunder it was not to include this page
because like. to me this was the thing that defined my reading of this arc. this was the moment that made me go "oh, this isn't mob unconsciously doing this, this is someone else"
so then when you read through the rest of it you share mob's frustration. why are all these people treating this thing like it's mob? this isn't mob. this is some dangerous entity puppeting his body and hurting people! mob would never do this!
and then
oh.
oh.
this is mob.
this is mob as much as the teru who nearly killed someone who refused to fight back just because they didnt share his worldview is teru. this is mob as much as the ritsu who hurt dozens of people weaker than him just because he could is ritsu. this is mob the way the reigen who lied to him for years is reigen.
the part of you that lashes out and hurts people when you're scared or hurt or frustrated isnt some other scary thing that you have to control.
it's just you.
but people still love you.
wesołego geja
redraw of an omake from the manga! he is so adorable
Absolutely never getting over how Bones used the animation as a narrative device for Tsubomi.
Kind of hilarious to me how poorly the title "Mob Psycho 100" localized to English-speaking areas. To someone whose first language is English, it scans as:
- Mob (Yakuza, Mafia)
- Psycho (violent person with "crazy" behaviors)
- Thus: a particularly violent member of organized crime.
But in Japanese it scans as:
- Mob (background characters in crowd scenes in manga or anime)
- Psycho (short for psychic)
- Thus: a psychic who looks/acts like someone you'd never pick out of a crowd scene in a comic.
watching mob psycho 100 right now and the funniest part of this show to me is that mobs status as an esper is well known at his school and no one gives a shit. and that would lead you to think that espers are common enough its no big deal to go to school with one but no theyre so rare one of his school friends thought he was the only one. and yeah they still dont really care. imagine how fucking wild it would be to transfer to that school and everyones like 'yeah thats mob hes kind of lame. also psychic or whatever' and when you reasonably respond with 'HES PSYCHIC????' everyones like 'yeah and kind of lame. anyway-' i would go insane. i would go insane!
Spirits and Such
This? This shit right here? Why Mob Psycho 100 is my favorite anime right now.
the weekly omakes literally never miss why is this so funny
the implications of tiny kid mob seeing spirits and not understanding how Horrifying it would be to a normal person is so freaking funny I just picture like
shigeo, nine years old: look!! i drew you this!!
reigen: aw that’s nice let me see
the drawing: crayon kid-penmanship of reigen sitting at his desk with a massive Eldritch Horror of a spirit looming over his shoulder
reigen, white-knuckling it: oh! ……. how nice! Is that behind me, then?
shigeo, nodding: yeah!! it likes you!
reigen: o h ! that’s great mob!
reigen internally: h oohohhlly sh i t
