Don't expect ANY actual character analysis whatsoever, but it just came to me that for all that Hughes is the "funny character" and Roy has these big military goals and tries to act cold, when it all comes down to it it's Hughes who (if you ask my gut feeling) is the more ruthless one and the one who hesitates less.

they should've made the heathcliff ova a part of the main series bcs you can't have a full understanding of the story, of the horror of the ishvalan war, of scar, of roy, of exactly why father is evil, without seeing hughes and roy kill their academy friend that they defended from seniors fifteen minutes ago because he's ishvalan and they're committing genocide
