What is also beautiful about that reunion is that Thomas has no doubt that he and James are still in love. James could've been emotional because, well, how can he not be? But that's not a guarantee that he still loves him. But Thomas has no doubt! He knows James still loves him. There is no uncertainty or awkwardness when he goes to cup his face and kiss him.
[clutching chest] [keeling over] [writhing on the floor]
ANON!!!! 😭
it’s been so long for both of them!!! we know so many things have happened for james and can only imagine what thomas has been through. it’d be perfectly reasonable for thomas’ first response to be “what are you doing here?” or “what’s going on?” or something similar, especially since the man standing before him looks so different from the james he knew. but instead he just breaks out into the biggest grin and leaps into james’ arms and there are no questions between them. not a single one. not yet.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ANYONE HOLD A PIRATE SO DELICATELY?!?!?
anyway it’s been a week and I’m still hesitant to go out in public because I fear I’ll end up gripping the collar of the first human being who comes within five feet of me and whispering “love is real” close to their ear before walking away so that’s where I’m at and that’s probably where I’ll be at for the rest of my life BYE!!!!
My truest love…
I vaguely recall Max describing the plantation owner chap as a “reform-minded man”. A reform-minded man who takes all the rich and unwanted gays of 18th century London and keeps them on his farm and apparently doesn’t stop them from cuddling and making out in the fields.
Interesting definition of reformation.
Leaving aside for a moment the pretzel the finale left of my emotions and my heart, can we talk about that fucking ocean battle for a hot minute?
Rogers was set up as a match for Flint. He predicted the fire ships Vane and Teach sent and got ships moving to prevent more damage. He defeated Teach. He’s clearly a master tactician and understands the sea and using ships in battle in a way few other captains on the show have done. He uses unconventional tactics–scuttled ships in a harbor, ramming, surprise and positioning–to disarm and confuse.
And Flint FUCKED HIM UP. He took in at one glance how the ships were tied together and the best way to use the current to push his own frozen ship into an advantage. He climbed the rigging and cut the tangled forestay that was locking them in place and boom. He wasn’t disarmed, he wasn’t confused. He moved himself into the winning position without hesitation, and then reaped the victory.
Not once, over the whole of this show, has a single person been shown as a better military mind than James Flint. His understanding of battle tactics, land and sea, is flawless. He knows the men and their capabilities and how to drive them to win. He, most importantly, understands his enemy. He can move on any field with the freedom of someone who sees in four dimensions and can calculate all outcomes and can point his side down the best path to victory. That’s insane, and awesome, and holy fucking shit, England was at WAR and they threw away a goddamn TREASURE.
Know no shame.
a family can be a fashionable pirate captain with weird pointy sideburns and a lesbian and a lesbian and a lesbian
Could we pause on this for a second …

The look on Thomas’ face at first. Shock, disbelief and perhaps a bit of uncertainty at his own memory of James. For ten years, Flint had the painting of The Hamilton’s to remember Thomas’ face by. He had Miranda to talk to and keep that memory alive. He had the book Thomas had given him to hold on to. Thomas had none of those things. He had no photos or keepsakes, just his memories and no one to share them with. And memories fade over time despite how much we don’t want them to. You forget little things like facial features, the sound of a loved one’s voice, their laugh, the exact color of their eyes. Thomas must have been questioning for a moment if this was real or just someone who reminded him of James. Then he realizes it’s really him. And I’m crying forever.
IT’S OKAY I DIDN’T NEED MY HEART
i know this is still a fresh wound, but if I could say something to make you feel better... pause exactly at 27:05 (flint and billy's faces as they realise the sail is being torn) omg i laughed so hard
I HAVE NEVER
IN MY LIFE
LAUGHED HARDER
It’s like in the great stories. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were.
What decisions have you made about what our tomorrows will be?
I made arrangements to ensure that when we leave here, it is with compromises in place that would defuse any threat of widespread rebellion.
All this will be for nothing.
The writers of the Black Sails finale:
how long do you think before he starts a rebellion at that plantation?
Thank you, Black Sails, for reminding us that death is not the only thing that gives one’s story meaning.
I like how fandom, collectively, is in agreement that if James fucking Flint decides he does not want to stay on that estate, he will not stay on that estate.
Like, it’s not even a question.
