Monday, June 25, 2012 continued... I parked the car and hoofed it around downtown Tucumcari. The old and still operating Odeon Theater is a highlight. "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Sunday, June 24, 2012 continued... The Stovall Theater. Took a walk downtown in tiny Sayre, Oklahoma. "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Sunday, June 24, 2012 continued... So many roads to choose from for such a small town. From downtown Sayre, Oklahoma. "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Saturday, June 23, 2012 continued... I saved some time for a Tulsa walkabout this trip, in the Blue Dome District named for this former 1920's gas station on Route 66. "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Saturday, June 23, 2012 continued... The Tulsa skyline. With a population close to 400,000, and a modest but respectable skyline, I rank Tulsa as one of the "big city" stops on Route 66, along with Chicago, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles. Cyrus Avery, the "Father of Route 66," was from Tulsa, so here is where it all began. Mr. Avery owned a gas station, a restaurant, and a tourist court in Tulsa, went to Washington in 1925 to help establish the Federal Highway System, which included Route 66, then ran the new road right by his businesses. What a country! "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Friday, June 22, 2012. Route 66 through downtown Springfield, Missouri, past the McDaniel and Woodruff Buildings. Not a cloud in the sky on this new day. "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Look for my Route 66 Galleries here: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 continued.. A Cuba, Missouri street corner. I had a room waiting at the famous Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba, but with plenty of daylight left as it approached 7:00, I had time to explore the town during the early evening hours. Traveling Route 66 in June gives one long, sunny days with brilliant lighting for photos, but the trade off comes later in the Arizona and California desert heat. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 continued... Downtown Atlanta, Illinois, is a fun little town to walk around, thankfully so as it often is reached near the end of a day's travel on Route 66, assuming one starts in Chicago. The Atlantinians have done a nice job fixing up the place for us 66ers, and we appreciate it. "The Fine Art photography of Frank Romeo." Downtown Las Vegas, 1994, just a short time before they lost the sky under that silly roof. Link to this image in my American Cities Gallery: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/las-vegas-downtown-1-frank-romeo.html Other Galleries to explore: http://frank-romeo.pixels.com/
Downtown Las Vegas, 1980, well before they put a lid on it. Las Vegas is a side trip for a lot of 66ers, who make the 100 mile trip from Kingman. Just be sure and make the drive back to 66 and continue on to California.
