Hello! I’m wondering if there is anything I can do about fat distribution or if there is a way to slim my thighs and hips. I want them to appear more masculine.
Lee says:
If you’re on testosterone, you may experience some fat redistribution from your thighs (it usually ends up around your stomach).
Testosterone will not change the shape of your hip bones, but it does help redistribute the fat in your hip area, so there’s a chance that waiting for testosterone to change your fat distribution could de-emphasize your hips.
Compression shorts like these ones by Underworks can squish down some of the fat on your thighs to slim them. Here’s a post about that. You can also get more sports- type ones, if you need to have something more discreet. There’s also women’s shapewear like Spanx that compress the hips/butt if you aren’t out and need to explain your purchases to family. And try to avoid ace bandages.
And the final option to slim down your thighs is liposuction, sometimes also called “mansculpture”. Here’s another ask about that, and a website with an overview. @gendercube had body masculinization along with his top surgery and his tag about it is here.
In the meantime, check Our Dysphoria Tips Masterpost, and maybe go shopping- certain styles of pants can also help disguise your hips. Also- if you build muscle on your thighs, they may become a bit larger but they might end up looking more masculine because of the muscle.
Jay says:
Try stuff on and get what fits. Men’s pants aren’t cut to accommodate much hip. Try on different cuts too, especially “athletic” cuts or “taper” cuts, and look for “flex” fabrics. Joggers are great for casual pants because they stretch and are tapered at the ankle so they fit without having a ton of extra fabric.

This only helps minimize the appearance of fat, though; it won’t make bone look smaller. If not, maybe try compression shorts for a similar effect? Patterned shirts, as well as unbuttoned button-downs over t-shirts can help minimize your chest and hips, as well. Testosterone also causes fat redistribution, which helps get rid of “feminine” curves.

Anon said: Just thought I should put a warning out to other trans guys using the hip buster briefs. DO NOT wear them for a long period if time. I did and now I have severe bruising on my hip bones. There is large swelling in both side because I thought I could go a full day at college without the opportunity to change out of the briefs. I will likely be unable to wear them for over a week now. It’s not worth it. It’s possible that these were too small though!
