Do you know how long it takes for a binder to arrive from underworks? I ordered one a few days ago and I dont mind waiting but it didnt say anywhere what time it would usually arrive it just gave me when I ordered it, what i ordered and how much everything cost

Lee says:

This is what their website says: https://www.underworks.com/domestic-shipping

But right now, with Covid interrupting so many aspects of life, I wouldn’t expect anything to arrive on time.

A lot of places have had to reduce the number of people working to make products in factories, the people in their offices processing things, the people in warehouses getting things ready to ship, etc, all while online orders across the board have increased, which is putting more strain on the system as a whole. So there’s been a big slow down in how long it can take to get your stuff because the chain that gets things places has been affected, which seems to be true regardless of whether where you’re ordering from.

So I know how long it took my binder to arrive from Underworks when I ordered it a few years ago, but I’m not going to try to guess how long it’ll take yours to arrive in the current pandemic.

If you’ve logged into the website to look at your order and it doesn’t give you the info you’re looking for, you can try contacting them if you’re concerned:

Are endos considered essential currently? (USA florida) I can finally afford T and I need to start before I move out to stay safe.

Lee says:

It’s hard for us to keep track of what is and isn’t considered essential in all of the states, and even within a particular field different offices are doing different things so the easiest way to find out if your doctor is having appointments is asking them!

I’d recommend calling the office of the endocrinologist you want to see and saying something like:

  • Hello, my name is [Name] and I’m transgender and want to start testosterone.
  • Do you know if Dr. [Name] is accepting new patients, and if they are, would you be able to schedule an intake/consultation for me right now?
  • I’d like something sooner than later, so if there’s anything open in the next month or two that would be great.
  • I know Covid-19 is disrupting a lot of normal medical care, so would my appointment be in-person or online?

If you don’t already have an endo in mind, check out this post for more info on finding an endocrinologist!

Do you need reproductive and/or gender affirming healthcare and live in the US? Planned Parenthood is offering telehealth appointments!

Planned Parenthood can help you get birth control, STI testing and treatment, hormone replacement therapy and other gender affirming care, and urinary tract infection treatment via phone and video appointments.

Lee says:

You may be able to get gender-affirming hormone therapy (testosterone or estrogen and anti-androgens) through telehealth services, but note that not all Planned Parenthood health centers offer this.

I started testosterone at Planned Parenthood myself, but it was almost 3 years ago so my experience was an in-person one

Some Planned Parenthood clinics may not offer HRT at all, some may offer it but not by telehealth, and some may want to continue care for established patients only, and some will prescribe over phone but want you to get blood work done before you start which means you won’t get T right away. But it might be possible to start HRT through telehealth services, or at least start the process to get there- and you never know until you check!

  • Step 1. Locate your nearest Planned Parenthood.
  • Step 2. Check to see if your nearest Planned Parenthood offers telehealth visits by video or phone.
  • Step 3. Call the clinic and tell them you want to start HRT. If they say they provide HRT, ask if you can schedule your appointment online or over the phone.

Even if you don’t use Planned Parenthood, you can still reach out and call the office of whatever doctor you hope to see and say something like:

  • Hello, my name is [Name] and I’m transgender and want to start hormone replacement therapy.

Would covid 19 affect a T shot?

Lee says:

No, I don’t see any reason why the two would affect each other in any way.

However, you should be checking in with your care provider if you do think you have covid-19! You should call them (not go in person) and describe the symptoms you’re having.

Getting a test probably won’t do much for you- it’s nice to know which virus is causing your symptoms, but it likely won’t change how you should deal with it (avoid people, drink fluids, etc), so don’t head to the emergency room or somewhere to demand a test unless your doc told you to.

Your doctor will likely tell you to self-quarantine if it does seems likely that you have it- again, you probably won’t need to go to the emergency room (and risk exposing other patients/doctors there) unless you’re having trouble breathing or you have a high fever that hasn’t broken.

But none of that really has to do with your injections, and even if you’re sick with a virus you should continue doing your T shots unless your doctors tell you otherwise!

The only T-related thing I can think of that might be worth doing is seeing if you can get an extra month’s worth of T and needles, so you don’t have to go out to the pharmacy while you’re sick and you don’t have to risk infecting the folks there, and you can avoid going out and about if you aren’t sick.

I just got a bigger vial of T this time so I don’t have to refill twice a month, so if your insurance will cover a 10 mL vial of cypionate, or a 5 mL vial of enanthate, that might be worth doing instead of a 1 mL vial of cypionate. If you can only get the 1 mL vial of cypionate, see if you can get two or three of them at once! Changing the vial size or amount of em will require talking to your doc on the phone, or sending a message through the patient portal.

And, as always, talk to your doctor if you have a medical question! That’s their job, so don’t be afraid to call them, email, send a message through the patient portal, etc, to get in touch.
