sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you convince consertaive parents to get your hair cut, i only got hair cut once and my parents hated it for a while, they tell my hair isn't suited for short hair and that it won't look good but i just want something to look at and feel like a boy again. they are fine with me dressing masculine and all but do prefer when i dress feminine, i try my best to avoid wearing skirts but my mom always go on about how im a girl and i should act or dress like one.

Lee says:

I'm sorry you're going through this-- it sucks to be told that you can't be who you are, and it's honestly kind of rude for your parents to say that your haircut won't look good.

Most guys have short hair (in the US), and they don’t all have the same kind of hair or face. There’s no such thing as having the “wrong face” or the "wrong hair" to look good with a short haircut, everyone and anyone can look good with it if it's something they want! You just need to find the particular short haircut that suits you. And hair grows back, so you can try different styles of short haircuts over time.

(As an aside-- It's also really frustrating to be told that you should act and dress 'like a girl' when you aren't one, even if it's also somewhat validating to be recognized as being someone who is not currently doing those things.)

This post has a couple reasons that you can use to try and convince unsupportive parents to give their permission to get your hair cut short:

Followers, do you have any additional recommendations for anon on how to convince conservative parents to let you get a short haircut?

When the NCAA made its announcement in 2016 to withdraw tournaments from North Carolina in the wake of the state’s passage of HB2 it was a big deal. Along with similar announcements from companies, conference planners, and other states boycotting travel it was a significant (and even somewhat unexpected) show of solidarity for the LGBTQ+ community; and in conjunction with the persistent work of community activists in the state that law was repealed a year later.

As the debate around trans rights at a state level has shifted from bathroom bills to trans participation in athletics, one might think that the NCAA (who is specifically called out by name in a number of these proposed bills) would have something to say. But in spite of advocacy from student athletes, the NCAA has been conspicuously quiet  as it “continue[s] to monitor” the situation. Mississippi’s bill - which includes “any higher education institution that is a member of the NCAA” has since become law, and that’s unlikely to be the last one of these bills that crosses the finish line this session.

I fully expect that any number of these laws will face legal challenges and injunctions, but that’s no excuse for acquiescence.  As this article notes, the NCAA has played an outsized role in shaping this conversation at state capitols - clearly being one of the main impediments to South Dakota’s proposed athletics ban which has now devolved into an almost comical intra-party fight - and a clear statement from the organization to withdraw tournaments could mean the difference between a veto and an extended legal battle for trans athletes and their advocates.

I call on the NCAA to step-up, use their outsized influence and platform (especially now in the midst of March Madness), and stand with trans athletes whose only aspiration is to participate in the sports that they love.

tdov 2018 vs. tdov 2020!

i remember posting that first photo and being really sad that i wasn’t where i wanted to be. but i’m so thankful for my friends being encouraging and supportive.

crazy to think in two years, i’d move across the country, start a new job where they use my correct pronouns, get a girlfriend, tell my parents, AND start testosterone lol

for those that are still having to wait, be patient, find the small bits of happiness that you can to keep you going, and don’t give up! your time is soon too 💙

happy tdov everyone!

Hey! I'm afab NB and I'm 14. I've gotten my period for awhile and I was wondering what would be the best option for getting rid of it, would birth control work? Would blockers help at all? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Kai says:

both would work - talk to your doctor about it. birth control may be easier to get though and both have different side effects so do your research + talk to your doctor + think about what you want.

hi I'm amab and I have kinda a stupid question... with bras do you even need inserts? I can't afford them, but mainly I'm not getting them yet because I have no idea what they're significance is. help?

Chrissi says:

Bras and lingerie in general are demon science.Like, where in the seven kingdoms did they decide that ickle chest hills need an “A” and larger mounds demote a “D”?

And when they ran out of letters at like “F”, because they didn’t finish school and don’t know that there was more of an alphabet than that, they decided doubling up was the best idea.

DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THONGS.So no, it’s not a bad question, it’s all very confusing, and I’ll help because I am a Jedi and that’s just what I do.Bras don’t need inserts, necessarily. If you are happy with just a bra, and don’t want to make your nipple cushions look bigger… then bras start at AA, and work their way up.An AA cup size will fit even the tiniest of pectoral guardians. If you want them to look bigger, you can choose a bigger bra (Like two sizes bigger than your cup size, max) and use inserts to give the appearance of bigger flesh bulbs, I suggest silicone inserts, because these feel really, like woah.If you can’t afford or get hold of inserts for whatever reason, you can stuff your bra.

You can use socks, loo roll, scarves, anything you can make into the shape of a lung protector.Don’t use water balloons though, we don’t want it to go pop, and look like we are really lactating, hard.Have fun with your snuggle pups.Peace.

To the anon who thought some words are not "ableist enough" well it took me almost 17 years to know that "fat" isnt a bad word. I didnt recognize it earlier because I got told that I was fat in school by other classmates for almost 9 years. Now I can proudly say that whenever someone calls me fat, it doesnt get under my skin. So you better watch what you say because some words can and will cause unpleasant flashbacks to some people.

And this one:

'because yall think everything is ableist language' isn't that literally true tho like ableist language is ingrained into pretty much everyone (at least in the english speaking world) anyone who thinks you guys are being oversensitive is ridiculous

Big thanks to both of you for your support!

Alright, Tumblr! I work at a semi-big retail chain, and very recently, we set an ad that is marking all of our clearance (as pictured above) additionally half-off the ticketed price. Plus add coupons and my associate discount, and I’m looking at brand-new clothes for scratch-off ticket prices.

Here’s the skinny:  This is a giveaway, open to the trans community here on Tumblr. I’m aware that sometimes it’s hard for people to get the clothes they need in order to feel comfortable, due to financial or other reasons.

This giveaway will be held for the next 3 DAYS—which gives me time to talk with the winner (hopefully) before the sale ends. You’ll have to give me your sizes, some general information (like you adore the color blue or plaid-prints or you dig screen-tees), and I’ll try my best to pick out something you’ll like! I’m not entirely sure how much you’ll get—but it will be a bit. Some shirts, some pants, maybe a jacket. We even have shoes that are included in the sale.

RULES: - Giveaway will end on Sunday, the 22nd of February. Probably mid- to late-evening. - Likes and reblogs count as entries! You don’t need to follow me or anything. It’s not that kind of giveaway. - This particular giveaway is for MTF. The other giveaway, for FTM, can be found here. That said, it IS open for anyone who is gender queer, bigendered, or anything really. I’m marking this ‘MTF’ for the nature of the clothes that will be won; which will be more feminine in nature. - Please remember this is only open to the trans community. It is intended for two winners to receive clothes that will make them feel more comfortable. - There will be only one winner for this giveaway; and another for the FTM one. - It is also only open for U.S. residents, due to shipping costs. - Signal boosting is a-okay! But please tag it or be honest in case your name is selected to win. - I’m also offering to purchase toiletries in addition to the clothes, if the winner so desires. Deodorant. Shampoo. Stuff like that. - For the winner, please have your ask box open! I will contact you immediately after you are selected, so we may talk a bit about sizes and everything! I may not be able to get things 100% correct, or we may run low on certain sizes (people are fucking crazy when sales hit), but I will try to do my best for you!

IMPORTANTLY I will mail the winner their goods under the name that is most comfortable or safest for them. Just let me know! Thank you everyone! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me here! Additional notes: Common sizes for our juniors department are S - XL (which is about a pinched 16). We do have a SLIM selection of plus sizes (1X - 3X, with the 3X probably around a size 22). Pant sizes range from 0 - 24. We also have a Missy’s department (or just the standard women’s department), which sizes run the same. Due to the nature of this, I need to express we may not have the correct sizes. But I WILL try my damndest to make the winner happy!!

This may sound like a really dumb question but do you have to continue taking hormones after the full transitional surgery?

Ren says:

It's not silly if it's asked with genuine intent! :)

No, you do not - it depends on what you mean by "full transitional" but if you get a surgical procedure that removes your gonads (if you have ovaries, an oophorectomy, and if you have testicles, a orchiectomy), then you won't have to worry about them producing the "wrong" hormones anymore.

It's really up to you and your personal transition!

Idk why you tag "dumb", "idiot", or "stupid" as ableist. They aren't like the r-slur, and if you tag every word that "triggers" someone, why aren't you tagging the word "girl" bc I'm a trans man, and it "triggers" me when I see the word? Of course, that's ridiculous and I don't expect you to. But so is tagging the other words. They only offend people whose genuine questions are tagged as ableist – as if they're doing something wrong – like I'm certain you'll do with this ask, if you publish it.

Ren says:

Please read this post. Those words have been historically used to dehumanize and de-legitimize individuals with learning / developmental / cognitive disabilities, and still are. More under the cut, because this ask was not very nice.

Why does this blog always write 'boop' instead of 'boob'? Am i missing something? Is there some kind of auto-correct? I know this is stupid but im so confused ??

Ren says:

It's not silly!! No worries.

We use it because other words can trigger dysphoria, and because it's cute and silly and low-stress. If you haven't been around for long, it's understandably confusing, but that's why! :)

there is a natural stopping point for each person like I have a girl friend who's hair is about back of the neck length and she does everything she can to help it grow and then I have another girl friend who can easily grow her hair down to her knees (like 3ft or something insanely long like that)

Fox says:

I’ve seen hair touch the floor, so!

Avatar

Ren says:

Hair will grow as long as the hair follicles are alive! The only things that would change that would be personal preference and getting it cut that length; illness; or not taking proper care of it.

It grows at variable rates, depending on genetics and your diet? Like, make sure you're getting all your vitamins, previous anon - that's pretty important! But it won't just stop growing.
