Ppl blindly hating on Annabel Lee are missing the point of Nevermore in such a weird way… like obviously her behavior has been appalling but the whole point of her is that she in life and death has always existed in unfair systems she sees no way out of if she doesn’t behave connivingly. The only person who has ever showed her unconditional kindness was Lenore and she has telegraphed from the start that she will do anything to protect Lenore… and for all she knows, this is a death match with one person surviving.

Like what do you even think this story is about if not fighting the overbearing systems that hurt everyone? The patriarchy and corrupt society that kept Lenore and Annabel locked in their gilded cages when they were alive has translated into the prison that is the academy once they died. The enemy is the system, specifically those on top making the rules to benefit themselves. What benefit do you think Annabel gets out of any of this? She’s desperate and that’s why her bad acts are compelling….
