Summary: (Y/N) asks Jax to pretend to be her boyfriend in order to teach a guy that won't leave her alone a lesson. Needless to say things get a little complicated even when they're faking their relationship.
A/N: another overused trope but what's new? lessgooo
"Are you gonna tell me what's up now?" Jax asked (Y/N) the second he stepped into her house.
"Yes I will. I told you I will" she replied but couldn't find herself to speak any further.
Jax looked at her with a questioning look. "I'm waiting... What was so important that you couldn't tell me on the phone?"
"Umm, it's not exactly important. Well no, it is important, it's just mostly embarrassing."
"Embarrassing?" he laughed as he sat on the couch, leaning back, his right arm on the back of it.
She sat next to him, still quiet.
"Come on. You know you can tell me everything" his low voice and big round eyes made her even more nervous, instead of safe and relaxed like they usually did. How are you supposed to say this to your friend of all those years, who may or may not also be your crush?
"I just... I need your help Jax."
He just nodded, not wanting to interrupt her since she had finally started talking.
"Um... This Noah guy from work..."
His face immediately turned red, eyes narrowing and eyebrows furrowed. "If this fucker is not leaving you alone again I swear to fucking-"
"No, no" she was quick to interrupt him. "It's not like that."
"Well then tell me. You're staring to get me worried."
"Well... I may or may not have told him that I have a boyfriend so that he'll leave me alone."
He laughed. "You really need to learn how to say no darlin."
"I know but that's besides the point. So, um, there's this thing, we do it every year basically, kinda like a party. It's for the employees of the company. At my boss' house." She sighed nervously and looked at his still clueless face.
"I need you to be my boyfriend is what I'm trying to say here. Fake boyfriend" she corrected herself. "I need you to pretend that we're dating" she gulped.
He took a while to respond. "For the party thing?" his voice sounded a little high pitched, as if he was about to laugh.
"If you're not okay with it, then it's fine I'll just go alone, or I can ask someone else or-"
"I'm okay with it. I mean it's not like we're gonna have to fuck in front of them or something" he said trying to make her feel less awkward and she nodded.
"I'd do anything for you, you know that. Especially when it comes to that prik co-worker of yours."
The butterflies in her stomach intensified.
"Thank you Jax" she said softly.
"That's okay love" her replied. "But, you know, if you wanted to see how dating me would be like you could've just asked."
She laughed out of awkwardness. If only he knew. "You're so full of yourself Teller."
"Also if we gotta practise kissing or anything just tell me. You know, in case we need to check if there's the needed chemistry n all" he joked.
"Say one more thing like that and I'm asking Tig to come with me."
"Tig?" he laughed.
"You know he'd be more than happy to help me."
"Oh I know he would" he said referring to his friend's flirty behaviour towards (Y/N) (or anyone really). "I'm just saying... Your co-workers could see him out with other women and they'd think that he's cheating on you" he continued teasing her.
"Yeah like that's totally not a possibility with you."
It was supposed to be a joke but Jax smirked awkwardly and looked down while playing with the rings on his fingers. He thought about the countless women he'd bury himself into just because he couldn't be with the one he truly loved. And the worst part was that it wasn't because he didn't have the balls to tell her how madly in love he was with her, but because he knew that by doing so she'd immediately be in danger because of his chaotic life. He had to choose between letting either her or himself suffer every day and he knew what the easiest choice for him was.
"Do I have to dress nice or anything? Cause I don't-"
"Yeah I know you 'don't'. Just wear your least baggy jeans... and one of your button-ups. No leather please."
"Okay boss" he joked. "Do I have to remove my knife from my belt to?"
"God, I should have told the guy that I'm a lesbian" she said desperately with one hand on her face.
He laughed at her comment. "Relax, I'm just joking."
When the night of the party arrived (Y/N) had told Jax that she'd come over by his house first, mostly because she wanted to check on his outfit since she didn't trust him completely with his styling choices.
He saw her standing by the door as he opened it. Glowing skin, thick eyeliner and plump red lips accompanied with a short emerald dress that was complementing her skin tone perfectly. He stared for a little too long, his lips partly opened in awe.
"Hey" she said with a smile.
"Hey" he replied almost out of breath. "You look...", beautiful, so unbelievably hot, fucking irresistible, "great. That Noah guy is one unlucky bastard" he smirked as he let her in.
"Mmm... can't wait till he sees how hot my boyfriend is. And intimidating. And big. And scary" she laughed.
"You think I look scary?"
"Well, in a good way."
"How can someone look scary in a good way?" he laughed while running his fingers through his long hair and licking his lips.
"It is a good thing when you can scare annoying guys away."
"Ok, I'm taking that as a compliment" he smirked as he started heading towards his bedroom.
When he arrived at the living room again he found (Y/N) sat on his couch. "Ok how do I look?" he asked.
She stood up and took a good look at him while smiling. Her smile faded though when she noticed a stain on his shirt.
"Jax, there's blood on your shirt, for fuck's sake."
"Shit" he exclaimed as he was looking down at the side of his shirt. "You know what, maybe this will scare him even more."
"Go change" she told him unamused.
Without a word he headed straight to his bedroom again.
"Can you come here for a sec?" he asked loudly do she'd hear him in the living room.
"Sure, what's up?" she froze as she saw him standing in his room shirtless with a flannel on each hand.
"Which one?" he asked for her opinion.
"Black one's fine." Her mesmerized look and soft voice made him smirk, knowing exactly what he was doing to her. His flexing muscles looked so irresistible, and she completely lost it once he started buttoning up shirt. Inappropriate thoughts started filling her head.
"C'mon let's go" he said with a wink once he put his flannel on.
She gave him a questioning look. "That's it? Aren't you gonna do something about the hair situation up there?"
Truth is, as much as she loved his messy long hair, now was not the time for this particular hair style.
"What's wrong with my hair?" he asked as he turned around to look at the mirror, almost a little too offended. He started running his fingers through it, trying to fix it.
"Let me do it" she said without thinking, getting closer to him. Her fingers were running through his blond hair trying to tame it down when she realised his breathtaking blue eyes were glued on hers. The undying need of his to grab her face and kiss her hungrily was definitely at its peak at this very moment.
She gulped nervously and slowly put her hands down. "I did the best I could" she smiled.
"It's gonna get all fucked up from my helmet anyway darlin."
Jax whistled as he saw the villa the party was thrown in. From the looks of it, it seemed like this would be no SAMCRO party. He noticed (Y/N) being nervous as they were standing next to his bike in the warm summer night and proceeded to comfort her.
"Come on, everything's gonna be fine. Don't worry."
She just sighed deeply so he continued: "We just get in there, pretend that we actually enjoy this rich-people-get-together-party-thing for a couple of hours, everyone thinks you're fucking the hottest guy in Charming, this Noah guy leaves you alone... then we get back to your place and watch a movie. Nothing to worry about."
She couldn't help but roll her eyes at the cocky comment about himself even though his words really reassured her.
They started walking towards the door when Jax put an arm around her waist.
"Just... no talk about the club, don't start any fights and no hitting on other women."
"Yes ma'am."
"I'm serious Jax. I don't want others to know that even my fake boyfriend cheats on me. Just sit there and look pretty okay?"
"Aw, you think I'm pretty?"
A desperate look couldn't help but appear on (Y/N)'s face.
As they entered the house they were immediately greeted with a warm smile by the hostess, (Y/N)'s boss, who showed them to the garden.
(Y/N) loved the looks and attention she was getting for once. She knew that Jax wasn't a guy that went unnoticed and having him stand by her side was adding up to her confidence.
Things were going pretty great. The two of them were talking with some of (Y/N)'s co-workers, joking and having fun under the warm lights in the big garden by the pool. She was surprised at how well Jax was doing also. Actually having conversations with everyone, being nice and funny, which was making her fall for him even harder. She would only see him interact with club members and (other) criminals, making her almost forget the other normal side of him. Well, to that also contributed the fact that thankfully Noah was nowhere to be found.
It wasn't until minutes later that she saw him a few feet away talking to a guy from work and his boyfriend. When they accidentally made eye contact and waved at each other, (Y/N) cursed under her breath and tried to ignore him while still keeping an eye towards his direction. When she noticed him starting to walk towards where she was standing, she started panicking, her mind trying to find an excuse to run away.
"Will you um, excuse us for a second?"
She had already grabbed Jax by his right arm when she started heading towards the inside of the house with him.
"What's up?" he asked her full of worry, seeing the expression on her face.
"Noah is here. He-"
"(Y/N)!" She heard a voice calling her from behind and knew exactly who it was.
"Noah! Hey!" the fakest smile on her face as she turned around.
Jax eyed the guy up and down. He had short dark hair and an annoying smirk that he wanted to slap out of his face already. He seemed pretty fit and was only a few inches shorter than the blond biker, yet Jax completely understood why (Y/N) didn't like him because of his cocky behaviour.
He was already all over her, giving her a hug and Jax was starting to get angry seeing him hugging her when she was supposed to be with her boyfriend. This guy had some nerve.
"What's up? I just saw you there with everyone else! Did you just get here or...?"
"We've been here for a while now actually" she replied.
"Mhmm probably just didn't notice you around" Jax was quick to interrupt as he put his left arm around her waist. The look on Noah's face was not happy to say the least.
"Aren't you going to introduce us?" the brunette guy asked (Y/N), although his eyes never left Jax's, provoking him even more.
"Yeah, um, Jax this is Noah. Noah, this is Jax, my boyfriend." She enjoyed calling him her boyfriend even if it was fake.
She saw Noah's hand turn paler as Jax was giving him a firm handshake, a murderous look on his face.
"Should we grab some drinks?" the guy asked.
"We were just leaving actually-"
"Going to the bathroom" Jax intervened. "Comin' right back."
As the two were about to leave, a stupid grin appeared on Noah's face. "You don't even let her go to the bathroom by herself?"
"She's the one that asked me to come with. Don't know what she has in mind" Jax winked at him.
The two were heading inside, trying to find a bathroom.
"What the fuck was that?" (Y/N) asked him frustrated.
"I thought we were giving this guy a lesson. What's the point in leaving before doing exactly that?"
He had a point but the atmosphere was so tense she couldn't bare another second next to these two. She just sighed.
"I swear if that guy pisses me off once more I'm throwing him in the pool" he said finally.
"JAX!"
He always enjoyed the frustration in her voice when he was teasing her.
Once they were outside the bathroom, (Y/N) put her back against the door and sighed looking up. "Do you actually wanna use the bathroom or?"
"Might as well. We're supposed to be fucking anyway so we don't wanna head back too soon" he winked at her and went inside.
A few moments later they were heading towards the garden again when they saw Noah conveniently talking to the group of people (Y/N) and Jax were talking to prior.
"God damn it" she exclaimed and turned her back to the group of people, facing Jax.
"Hey, relax. We're just teaching this guy never to look at your general direction again and we're out. You don't even have to do anything, count on me" he smiled.
He suddenly put a hand on each side of her face and got closer to her. She just gave him a weird look in return.
"He's looking, just follow my lead, okay?" his smile turned into a cheeky grin as he put a strand of hair behind her ear.
She nodded nervously, not knowing what 'follow my lead' meant exactly.
"We're just gonna pretend that we're talking for while", his voice was soothing as ever, "and that we're totally madly in love, okay?" he put both his arms around her waist as his eyes were looking into hers.
She laughed lightly at his comments, feeling completely safe in his arms.
"Okay, laughing. Nice touch" he tried to calm her down even more and she couldn't help but smile at her idiot of a best friend.
He kissed her cheek while discreetly looking at the guy behind.
She never really thought the phrase "melting in someone's arms" could be said literally until that very moment. Or maybe until he lowered his right hand a bit, which was now almost grabbing her ass.
Jax noticed that they were not being watched anymore so he slowly removed his hands from her body.
"Is he still looking?" (Y/N) asked oblivious.
"Um, yes" he lied while whispering seductively in her ear. He kissed her check yet again and then gave her a smile while brushing the top of her nose with his index finger.
"C'mon let's go teach this fucker a lesson" he said finally and they started heading hand in hand towards the group of people a few feet behind them.
The conversation was going pretty well until Jax and Noah started talking to each other.
"Don't listen to her, she's definitely getting that promotion. She's the best at what she does" the dark-haired guy said.
"I know, she's always humble like that."
"Besides our boss loves her."
"Who doesn't?" Jax had already put an arm around her shoulder and she looked at him playfully.
"Exactly."
"Noah, stop!" she mumbled all shy.
"What? It's true. I mean, you hang around with bikers for Christ's sake, that alone is proof that you could get along with anyone" he laughed. It wasn't a secret that (Y/N) was a friend of SAMCRO but even if it was, showing up with Jax Teller as her boyfriend would make it pretty obvious anyway.
"And I know that the type of girls that hang around bikers aren't exactly... well, they're nothing like you, so this only further proves my point."
His derogatory comment about women really started grinding her gears. "What type of girls hang around bikers Noah?" she asked ready to hear more sexist bullshit.
"You know, less clothing... brains... usually junkies... I know for a fact you're nothing like that."
"You don't know what I am" she said calmly trying not to sound too offensive.
"Well, I mean, from what I see. You're intelligent... and classy."
Jax was really not appreciating neither the flirting right in front of him nor the bad comments about his club. Especially since the guy was implying that (Y/N) shouldn't be with someone like Jax.
"Well, me and the guys love her just as she is and because of who she is. And yeah, she is different than the average girl that hangs with us but that's what we love about her; that although she looks innocent and harmless she can put a bunch of bikers at their place when she needs to."
(Y/N) was glad that Jax decided to speak since her response to Noah would've been a whole lot different and more towards the angry side. Also she loved everything Jax had just said about her and couldn't help but wonder if he meant any of it.
"Yeah, I'm just saying that I couldn't imagine her around you and your kind."
Jax was getting angrier by the minute with all these little comments.
"Well, my kind loves her actually. Just as much as I do. You should really come to one of our parties, she would completely change your mind" Jax smirked.
"It's not really... my thing."
"Yeah, I can imagine" Jax said with a voice full of irony. "You know, maybe (Y/N)'s not supposed to be around your kind, have you thought about that?"
Shots fired, she thought and couldn't hide the fact that she was enjoying it, especially when Noah couldn't find something to say in response.
There was some awkward silence for a while which was thankfully interrupted by a guy walking by and greeting both (Y/N) and Noah since he hadn't seen them since he got there.
When he left the tension prior was somewhat forgotten.
"Do you think we should get going?" she asked Jax since it was getting a bit late.
He was enjoying this too much to leave now though, so he told her that they could stay a bit longer.
"Aren't you having a good time love?" Noah asked her with a smirk painted on his face.
Just at the sound of the word love Jax was fuming. Maybe taking his knife holder off his belt wasn't such a good idea after all.
"I'm just a little tired. And I have kind of a headache." It was true. All this tension wasn't giving her a good time.
"Shit, why didn't you tell me earlier babe?" Jax asked her, his tone worried. "Do you wanna leave now?"
"I- If that's okay with you."
"Yeah, of course" he said looking at her eyes, before putting his hands on her cheeks and giving her a small yet passionate kiss.
Surprised was an understatement for what she felt then. The confusion was taken over by the warm fuzzy feeling inside her so she just stood there unable to speak.
"I'll go get our jackets" he winked at her and left quickly.
When they said goodbye to everyone and started heading towards the exit, (Y/N) asked him a question that summarised everything she was feeling after the kiss.
"What the fuck?"
"What?" he pretended he didn't know what she was taking about. He wasn't ready to face the consicuenses. Not yet.
"Jax, what the fuck was that? We didn't agree to this." She sounded mad even if she was dying for this kiss to happen for years. She just didn't imagine their first kiss, if that ever happened, to be... fake.
"If the dude was flirting with you when you were supposed to be with your boyfriend then he had no intentions of leaving you the fuck alone. I had to do it to shut him up. You should be thanking me about this."
They were by his bike now and Jax had a pack of cigarettes in his hand already. He lit one up and started taking big drags out of it, trying to calm himself down.
(Y/N) was waiting for him impatiently as the silence was growing heavier.
"I never asked you to do such thing" she said finally.
"I- I'm sorry okay? The dude was just pissing me off. Talking shit about me and the club and then flirting with you right in front of me. Who does he fucking think he is?" he exclaimed and with a quick motion threw his cigarette to the ground before stepping on it.
So that's what it was huh? Being pissed that someone flirted with 'his girlfriend' in front of him. His 'possession' being claimed by someone else. Which meant that the kiss, apart from being something fake, also happened for all the wrong reasons. (Y/N)'s mind was full of thoughts but the only thing that came out of her mouth was a depressing "Can we just go home?"
And so they did. (Y/N) had spent all the ride home trying to make sense of her thoughts. When she noticed that Jax was about to start following her to the door she stopped him.
"I... I'm kinda tired. Can we do the movie some othe time?"
"Yeah..." he paused, "yeah, sure." The disappointment in his voice was more than apparent. He had obviously noticed the change of her behaviour after the kiss but he would've never thought that she'd indirectly ask him to leave.
He would've also never guessed that this would go on for the following days. She would openly avoid him, making ridiculous excuses not to see him as well as not stepping foot in the clubhouse. Nevertheless he would still try to get in contact with her.
"Hey what's up? I've been trying to call you for 2 hours. Where are you?"
"Sorry, I was working. Had to work some extra hours these past few days and today was no exception."
"Are you at work now? I can come pick you up... go grab some lunch or whatever you're up for."
"I'm almost home now actually. And I'm pretty exhausted... we can arrange it for some other time though."
"I just wanted to talk to you" Jax said quietly.
"About what?"
"I- I don't know... I feel like I haven't seen you in forever. Just wanted to catch up with you."
"I'm sorry Jax..." She couldn't say anything further.
"Can I come over at least?"
"I... um... sure, okay."
God damn it (Y/N) you really need to learn how to say no.
When Jax arrived at her house he hugged her the second he stepped in. The warmth his body emitted as well as his cologne made her knees feel weak.
"What's up babe?" he asked her as he saw the sad expression on her face.
Oh I've just been avoiding my best friend for a week because he showed me that the only reason he'd ever kiss me is to show other men that they shouldn't be fucking with his 'possessions'.
"I'm a little tired. I had been working for hours."
"Shit, I'm sorry... How about that movie we were talking about the other day?" he had his hand on her cheek, "to get your mind off things, huh?" His husky voice and caring attitude made him even harder to resist.
"I was planning on having an early one tonight actually... and my head is killing me, I-"
"You know if you didn't want me to come over you could've just told me" he interrupted her before sighing. "Why are you doing this? You've been avoiding me for days for Christ's sake."
The truth is he obviously knew that her behaviour had changed after the party. He just wanted her to admit it, but when she didn't say a word he had to bring it up himself.
"Was... was me kissing you that bad?" he asked frustrated. "That bad that you have to avoid me without even giving me an explanation?"
She was pretty shocked that he actually took the conversation there.
"We could at least talk about it, you know... not have me trying to guess why it bothered you so much and why we're not even talking to each other all of a sudden" he said with a raised voice.
"I'm sorry Jax... I didn't mean to-" was the only thing she was capable of saying when she realised that she wasn't exactly ready to tell him that the only reason she was angry was the fact that this kiss meant nothing to him. Her eyes started watering.
"The last few days have been hell for me... with the club and my mom and Clay... and the only person I know that always has my back, that I can always turn to, has been avoiding me for a week. If- if I knew you'd hate me for it... a-and what your reaction would be, I would've never done it. I would've never kissed you." He scoffed. "I didn't know this would be the worst thing imaginable for you." The anger in his voice infuriated her as well.
"You really don't fucking get it, do you?" Her stomach was in a knot as she was trying to find the right words to speak. "Good damn it Jax... I just... I didn't want to kiss you under... these circumstances" she said in-between pauses, still not making herself 100% clear.
"You kissed me just because you didn't like that someone was flirting with your 'girlfriend' in front of you. Just to claim back your territory. Like I'm some fucking object."
"What's that supposed to mean? Our goal was to piss the guy off. And we did just that, what's your fucking point?"
"I didn't want our first kiss to be under those circumstances Jax" she spoke even louder than him. He froze when he realised what she had just said. His eyebrows were still furrowed but this time with worry and not anger.
"I just hoped that it could mean something to you" she was calm now, "but it didn't. And that... that's fine. I was just trying to distance myself in order to sort my thoughts out."
"I never told you what it meant to me. I..." he sighed deeply and looked down, unable to continue speaking. The silence was deafening.
"Jax, we've been avoiding... this... for a whole lot of reasons" she said referring to their complicated relationship. "I think it's better if it stays as it is and I know that so do you, I was just... a little surprised when it happened. That's all. And I know that avoiding you was not right, I'm sorry, but that shit hurts, okay? and distancing myself was the only thing that made sense to me."
"Well, finding an excuse to kiss you was what made sense to me. And doing it with the safety net that we're just 'pretending' felt like it might could've hurt less."
"Well, it didn't."
