To the smudgies, Instagram witches and witches of Witchtok. May I remind you that Saining is not a smoke cleansing ritual. It has nothing to do with cleansing or getting rid of' bad energies' or bringing in 'positive vibez'.

Saining is a set of rites intended to bless, consecrate and protect people, individuals, animals and objects from supernatural harm. It comes from my country (Scotland) and has no relation to contemporary witchcraft. The purpose of Saining is to get rid of harmful influences like witchcraft and the evil eye, and also to bring blessings to community members who take part in the tradition.

Stop calling your smoke cleansing rituals Saining. It's not Saining if you are doing it for 'likes and subscribes' or for aesthetic reasons.

Oh, and lastly it's not Smudging. Don't even think about comparing it to Smudging. Smudging comes from First Nations people of Turtle Island (USA) and has nothing to do with Saining.

And if I’m not mistaken, Sylvia Rivera was *specifically* addressing WHITE gays and white feminists here. She called out these middle/upper class white folks who strove only for assimilation while neglecting Black and brown LGBT people who were poor and struggling and languishing in prison. White Gays and feminists didn’t like the way revolutionary figures like Sylvia were “rocking the boat”

Specification is important here because antiblackness and racism are still rampant in the LGBT community and Black + brown LGBT folks have had to make communities of our own because white LGBT people ostracize us.

Specifically she was calling out both the Women’s Liberation Front and LGBT community, both of which were present in the crowd. (Both movements supported each other as both communities were deeply invested in the turnout of the 1973 ruling on Roe v Wade).

And she was calling them out because she had to TAKE the mic. They were booing her. They didn’t want to see the trans and genderqueer faces of the people who started the movement and then put their entire lives on the line for it. After throwing the first bricks, cis gays and lesbians were happy to discard and forget that it was trans women and folk in drag who threw them.

And that is the context of this.

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.

In the "my illness won't condemn me to an early, ignominious death" kind of way.

In the “no one gets seconds until everyone has firsts - houses, utilities, etc” kind of way.

There was this guy in the 1800s - I can't remember his name, but his name is recorded somewhere - who honestly argued that if given the choice between a beautiful woman and a heron, deep down in their most earnest true heart, every man would rather fuck the heron. And he got mad when people denied this, continuing to deny this what he had decided must be an universal truth, instead of praising him for being the only one who was brave enough to finally say it out loud. Anyway what I'm saying here is that every once in a while whenever you find yourself in a situation where nobody else is willing to agree with something that you consider the most obvious truth, take a moment to meditate on the possibility that perhaps they do mean what they say, and perhaps they are right. Not unreality, not a joke: I have never posted such a thing before here but- Please do this one for whatever good it might result in.

A trump-appointed judge just struck down a policy put in place by Biden to protect undocumented immigrants married to US Citizens which is crazy because the rhetoric online for the past 4 years has been that Democratic politicians are just as cruel to immigrants as Republican politicians are...it's almost like not being allowed to celebrate any legislative accomplishments by democratic politicians can create apathy in a huge portion of the voting block and then everyone is shocked when helpful policies they didn't even know existed are stripped and suddenly 500,000 people are at risk if deportation because of one judge and one president who appointed them.

A helpful Biden policy being struck down or ended by some judge or Trump is going to become a very familiar headline. The irony is that this might be how people start to recognize Biden actually did something as a president.

The paradox of tolerance is only a paradox if you think of tolerance as some sacred and unconditional moral duty. Some ultimate and absolute law with no exceptions, and if you ever slip into the sin of intolerance, you must repent yourself and beg for forgiveness. Yeah no fuck that. Tolerance is a social contract. You're in the game as an equal player for as long as you play by the same rules as everyone else, and if you don't, your ass is fucking out. You're not entitled to the same respect you won't give others.
