Jaehee’s Romance Defense (MAJOR SPOILERS)

Okay, guys! It’s time to take off the gloves, and attempt to settle a dispute once and for all, and hopefully, be able to soothe other’s minds. This, as the title shows, is about Jaehee’s possible romance with you during her route. There’s a lot of speculation about being “friendzone’d” by her, BUT, I’m here to dispute that argument.

These next bunch of paragraphs will contain spoilers, involving the four phone calls you have with Jaehee (three incoming, and one outgoing) on Day 10. I will also include other aspects of information, but these phone calls are my main evidence. So, without further ado, let’s get down to business! (To defeat the Huns) XD

If you wish to see this development for yourself in the game, instead of me telling you, just get through all of the branches successfully, and enjoy Day 10. You will get three phone calls from Jaehee, with the third phone call being an important one; however, I don’t think people really notice the mythical fourth call, which is an outgoing call (you have to call Jaehee after the 8PM conversation on Day 10 to get this one, which will cost you 5 hourglass.) This call is the absolute defense, and is highly worth taking. However, if you do not wish to wait that long, then continue reading.

Again, there are spoilers to her story, so spoilers, maties!

Before I go on about my defense, let’s go over the other side of the spectrum, about MC being friendzoned. It’s understandable to think so, since all Jaehee talks about, aside from Zen’s looks, is how much of a good friend you are to her. She even continues to use the word “friend” when it comes to a sentimental topic. You will be seeing this counter-argument every now and then as I present my defense. In regards of the defense, I will pull out all of the important info, including the counter-defense information.

Evidence 1: Incoming call, “I just had to hear your voice.”

This call is basically Jaehee wanting to hear your voice, while also showing you her true personality. She goes on about being able to freely enjoy the night, instead of having to rummage through documents, working late, etc. Then, she decides to throw you the first shot of the defense:

“…Yes, I should tell you. I like you, a lot.”

Now, this one line is the one that really starts the argument in a strong point, but unfortunately, is shot down by the next line:

“It’s not a romantic feeling, but we are aware of each other and respect each other… It’s a polite kind of liking but I really like you…”

This line is the first true counter-defense, and is totally understandable. Though, there are discussions about how this line can be taken, with the pro-Jaehee group stating that she could be retracting her feelings, because of the location she’s at.

In South Korea, homosexuality is highly looked down upon, almost seeming to be considered a disease or disability of some sort. This is a highly-used topic to argue why her route is the way it is, and I believe it as well. Cheritz had to be extra careful to put a woman as a romance option, without having it be a romance…but having it be a romance. But, we can’t deny that this line is a solid counter-defense.

The rest of the phone call is pretty much her telling you how much she cherishes you, and tells you good night. Now, onto the second evidence!

Evidence 2: Incoming call, “I’m thinking of learning how to bake.”

This call starts off fun. After Jaehee tells asks you where you think she is, you’re immediately able to choose the option, “Inside my mind?” If you choose that, she responds with, “…In there too. I feel like you’re sounding more and more like Zen.” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

This call is pretty much a cutesy one, with not a whole lot of evidence to pull out for either side of the argument. But, I like to incorporate the feeling she’s now getting. She states that she is becoming more sensitive to how you react, worrying about if she said something wrong, or if she’s boring you, in which you tell her that she isn’t boring you. :)

This call is just a little leverage towards my argument, because in it, she’s really warming up to you, also letting you know that she wants to learn to bake, as well as wanting to go to all of these restaurants with you after the party. But, let’s go ahead and go to the third piece of evidence, which is an important one.

Evidence 3: Incoming call, “Did you read the messages?”

This call used to be my concrete evidence for my argument (emphasis on “used to”). This call is mainly about secrets in the RFA, and then quickly goes into you two talking about keeping secrets. In my call, I chose the option of “No. I don’t like keeping secrets.”

She agrees, and goes on about hoping that Seven and V are just protecting everyone, then goes on about wanting to learn more about you, wishing that Seven can create a secondary app that lets her learn more about your world than the RFA members’…then the real fun begins.

“And…there’s something else I want to say, but I won’t just yet. Women have to be much more careful in approaching other women…”

This line is one doozey of a line. Just the fact that Jaehee says that women have to approach other women carefully shows that what she wants to say, is a very touchy subject. It could be that she’s shy about talking to another woman, oooor it’s possible that she’s starting to have feelings for you, but doesn’t know if she wants to tell you about it or not.

“I’ll advance one step at a time… I hope someday I can analyze this feeling I have towards you.”

Touchy subject it is. This is the point in which I truly believe that she has feelings for you, but is unsure of what exactly they are (seeing as this is the first time she’s feeling this kind of relationship towards another woman.) But, also knowing Jaehee, she’s a cautious woman. She does not want to jump into the shark tank, and instead, wants to observe it, waiting for the right time to slide into it, so it makes sense of her wanting to take her time, and figure out what this feeling is.

“I hope when I figure it out… you feel the same way too.”

Okay, this one got me. This was the line that almost solidified my defense. She’s practically saying that she hopes you feel the same way she does…but, this line can be considered a double-edged sword. If her feelings are romantic, then she hopes you feel the same way…BUT, if her feelings are purely friendship, she hopes you feel the same way. It can be conflicting, but based on how she’s been acting throughout this day, I believe is the first. Also, take notice on how much she’s changed from the first call. She originally stated that her feelings are not romantic…but now, it seems like she’s second-guessing herself, not knowing what her feelings are

. Also, please take note on how she sounds, if you’re listening to the call. She gets quiet when she says these lines, indicating a bit of shyness. Now, the rest of the call is basically her saying she’s going to hang up, saying that she will call you tomorrow, before the party. Now, this argument sounds solid now, right? Well…

Evidence 4: Outgoing call, “The party is finally today.”

This is the call to end all calls. It starts off with the two of you congratulating each other for having the party becoming a huge success (even though it hasn’t happened yet.) Immediately after, things get good.

“But I’ve never had a friend who’s a girl before… you’re the first one.”

This line can be taken as either 1.) she’s never had a female friend in all her life, or 2.) she’s never been interested in having a girlfriend, but you’d be the first one. Now, I honestly believe it’s the first one, because as strange as it sounds, her past does show that her younger life was horrible, and she never really had friends.

“But I feel like we’re more strongly connected than just friends.”

Okay. NOW, Jaehee is getting serious. She’s now considering your relationship to be stronger than just friends. And if you think it can’t get any better…

“I feel something I can’t describe… How should I say this?”

You’re almost there, Jaehee…she’s now feeling something totally different than before. There’s a possibility that she’s talking about romantic feelings at this point, seeing as how she’s never felt this way towards another woman, so it’s understandable to be confused by this new feeling.

“I’m not so sure now… but well, I might know when my hair grows out to reach my back…”

Yep. She’s now doubting her original theory of her feelings towards you, ultimate debunking the first call, at least, in my opinion. With her talking about figuring it out when she gets long hair shows that she might have her answer during her After Ending (in which she has long hair, reaching her back.) Which also gives her…6 months to figure out her feeling.

“Know what this feeling is that I have for you right now.”

Well, I don’t think Cheritz can get any closer than they can get to having her admit her feelings for you. Also, if you are listening to her voice, she becomes quiet again, indicating her shyness again. At this point, I was sold on the theory…but…afterwards, you’re given an option. An option to end all options, placing a “Case Closed” sign on the wall:

“I’m starting to feel uncomfortable…” or, the one I picked, “…I like you, Jaehee.”

Goddamn, Cheritz…both of these options have high indications of the level of emotion in this conversation. You’re either at the point of telling Jaehee to calm down, or to literally tell her how you actually feel towards her. Literally. You are blunt with your statement, no sugar-coating it. Flat out. I. Like. You. Jaehee. This option has to be the best moment for this argument, because you can’t deny the fact that there are high emotions going on here.

“I like you, too.” “I feel warm just thinking about your kindness.”

I placed both quotes here because they basically belong together. Her admitting that she likes you too (even though she’s already admitted that to you) while noting the dramatic change in Jaehee’s feelings shows that this is quite legit feelings towards each other.

“So… I… uhm…”

Danger! Danger! Jaehee is hitting critical mass! I believe, at this point, she’s about to confess herself. Buuut, knowing her cautions nature,

“You know what…? Let’s talk about this in person tomorrow.” “…It’s a bit embarrassing.”

Oh, Jaehee. You always know when to back down. She’s still able to keep her cool, even when her thoughts get jumbled up because of this unknown feeling she has towards you. But, in typical Cheritz fashion,

“Then see you tomorrow, for real… Good night my good friend.”

We almost had it! But, like I said before, Cheritz can’t really have a romantic relationship out in the blue, due to the culture of South Korea; however, I feel confident that, with this evidence, Jaehee will eventually admit her feelings towards you, quite possibly sometime between the Good Ending and the After Ending. This is purely speculation, until Cheritz themselves show up, and set the records straight…but, I highly doubt they will, because they know the fandom. They know what we wish for; however, they can’t really pull through, and I respect their decision to hold off, because of their culture.

Regardless, I still hold the belief that you and Jaehee will have a romantic relationship…she just can’t come out and say it. So, give her time, and she will open up to you…eventually…
