Made my way to lay flowers at the beautiful tribute at #MartinPlace on the site of the #SydneySiege after work today. There was all the usual bustle of transport, traffic, shoppers, commuters and cafe patrons as business has resumed as normal, yet the only distinct sound for blocks was a choir singing subdued carols by the traditional giant tree by the war memorial fountain, and reporters speaking somberly. Queue to lay flowers was up to an hour long but unhurried. The mood has captured exactly the spirit of solidarity, care and gratitude for how truly lucky we are to enjoy the freedoms and peace of our beautiful country that makes me proud to be Australian. So viscerally touching.
