SUCCESSFUL BANK HEIST DOC OCK FOR @thefunkyfrogking!! This drawing would not exist if it weren't for them commissioning me, and I am SO happy they did!! I had a blast drawing this and I'm super happy with how it turned out. Plus, this gave me an excuse to rewatch Spiderman 2 (and do one of these: "😳" every time this guy popped up on screen).
Another throwback from last year! I really loved No Way Home and especially seeing Doc Ock again! I LOVE Alfred Molina.
Words are not enough to describe the hold this man has had on me recently so I’ll just drop him here
OK ONE OF MY BIG SPIDERMAN 2 QUESTIONS GUYS I NEVER SEE A SINGLE SOUL BRING THIS THING UP
one of the most interesting characters in the entire raimiverse to me is professor curt conners. if that name is familiar, its because in most continuities this character ends up becoming the lizard. in the raimiverse however he never goes thru the transformation and villain story arc. tbh even though i know they wanted to make him lizard for 4 but i like the accidental subversion they ended up having to do where he just never went thru that. it can still be assumed though he still has some of that insight on the human body and experimental sciences, put a pin in that.
so its established that curt and otto know each other and talk casually to one another to some extent
so they know each other and they both know peter. so heres my question
why was curt just… absent for the rest of spiderman 2 then? it seems like he shouldve had a role right? imagine if your fellow scientist colleague and friend literally had everything blow up in his face and become octopus, like obviously he couldnt do much really but the fact we never see or even hear about him attempting to help KILLS me its so fucked but also like really funny in a sad way poor otto
Actually the video game of this movie has a cut scene that addresses this.
Otto does try to go to Curt, who is understandably concerned for him. But Curt makes the mistake of mentioning the cops. And since Otto is under the sway of the tentacles by that point, you can guess what happens next. Luckily Peter is able to find Curt afterwards.
Call me Kevin of Youtube did a lets play of this game (its a little over an hour) and hilarious summed up how unfair the confrontation was for Curt because ‘he has one arm and the other guy has six’ or something like that.
But yeah, it would have been interesting to know Curt’s thoughts about what happened and how ultimately he was unable to help his friend.
Yes…. They meet every 10 years
hug me im scared
Recently, on a whim I decided to buy all of the Raimi Spider-Man games for the PlayStation 2, here are some of my favorite highlights:
Spider-Man 1:
• You can play in the damn goblin suit. It’s not voiced by Willem when you’re the goblin, but it looks cool as hell.
• Willem Dafoe voices the goblin for the entirety of the game. Who wouldn’t want this?
•The Goblin blows up the balcony in the game, where you see Harry and MJ as well as the board members standing. You never see Harry for the rest of the game, so if you never watched the movies you could totally assume he just killed his own son with no remorse.
•The goblin sets MJ on top of a huge panda float and she dies if you don’t get to her in a timed period.
•At the end of the game, Norman unmasks himself in front of everyone on the bridge, then impales himself with the glider. He says “tell Harry I’m sorry” instead of “don’t tell Harry”. In the game version, Harry knows apparently at the end that his father was the Green Goblin. And just does not care. Still defends him endlessly. Harry wears the goblin suit when you play as the goblin. He is not voiced by James Franco.
•The best part? The goblin is terrifying. He looks like a tiny green elf and Spider-Man even makes several Christmas jokes about him while they’re fighting. In combat, though, as soon as he’s off the glider he’s deadly as hell. He gets Spider-Man into a chokehold and you’re done. I spent quite a few hours replaying those levels just to feel immense fear as this tiny Green Goblin makes it his life mission to kill me. 10/10, I loved every moment.
Spider-Man 2
•They actually give you an open world, where you can help and interact with civilians asking for your help. Spider-Man starts the convo with a phrase. My favorite one? “Give it to me straight… do I look fat in these tights?” This wouldn’t be as funny as it is on it’s own, but when it’s proceeded by “Spider-Man! Thank god you’re here! A man is about to fall off that building!” Or another task “Spider-Man! That man needs to go to the hospital immediately! Can you take him?” It’s perfect. All of it.
•There’s a random event where a kid cries because they’ve lost their balloon. Spider-Man’s response? Well, you could just swing over and grab the balloon, and deliver it to the kid, where you are met with a happy mother/father and happy child… but you can also shoot a web at the balloon, which immediately destroys it, met with immediate crying. The game doesn’t exactly force you to give it back either, so you can just take it and swing around with it for as long as you like, until it breaks (also met with crying) or, as I liked to do, just ignore it. So when you’re trying to help a civilian who is getting robbed, there will be a kid in the background sobbing because you didn’t get their balloon back.
•There’s another random event where you can hop onto a “raging” driver’s car, just to smash and destroy it. The funny part is that these people say mostly completely normal things. They complain about other drivers and traffic, and somehow that warrants Spider-Man to smash their car. I’d add some quotes but I can’t find any examples online. Usually something like “learn how to drive!” In a really angry voice. But that’s literally it, and you total their car over just a slight bit of anger. “You destroyed my car!” “Sorry, my sympathy meter is running low.” Or “Don’t drive angry!” As if that justifies it.
•Doc Ock is just pissed because he thinks you’ve killed his wife. And while you’re trying to shut down the reactors, you’ll be flung across the damn building every time you’re hit by a blast. Octavius is flat on the floor unconscious, unaffected by these blasts entirely. He will proceed to blame you for Rosie’s death the entire game and threaten to kill MJ. That’s his only motivation. He will chase you down and curse you for killing his wife even though Spider-Man was never near her in the first place.
•Harry returns! So he’s not dead after all! He’s pretty much exactly the same as he was in the second movie but slightly less bitter towards Peter, maybe. Again with the “don’t hurt Peter!” quote when Doc Ock goes to him for more tritium. The game doesn’t really expand on his character and kinda ignores his existence the whole time, but it’s fine. The best part with him in the game is when the demonstration with Octavius starts. Otto is explaining the fusion reaction, Harry is crossing his arms like the proud idiot he is, when Otto brings up the tritium. As soon as the tritium is mentioned, Harry announces very happily, “provided EXCLUSIVELY by Oscorp” to which Otto very unhappily responds, “Yes, of course. As I was SAYING,” it’s basically the relationship between Harry and Otto that I can’t get enough of. I love how much Otto can’t stand him.
•The fights with Mysterio are actually referenced quite a few times in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but I won’t elaborate on that here. He’s not a villain I’m particularly fond of, but one level I particularly enjoyed was Mysterio’s Fun House, where Spider-Man is led into a room full of wacky mirrors. His reflection in the mirrors causes oddly shaped versions of himself to chase him and proceed to try and kill him. This in itself is pretty fun, but the best part is when he’s punching and kicking them and he says “stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself!” Clearly unbothered by Mysterio’s illusions every time they have a battle.
•Peter “breaks up” with Black Cat even though they were never officially dating anyway. He’s just totally entranced by this thief for the entire game. He decides to break things off and asks her if they can still be friends before he rushes to go see MJ and tells her to be with him. She refuses, and he immediately goes “what was I thinking?” And never makes up his mind on what he wants to do about his relationship with her.
•Doc Ock dies at the end, so you think, “damn, the game is over”. It’s not. They give you two more chapters that have nothing to do with the rest of the game. It’s never done.
Spider-Man 3:
•You don’t see Sandman until the game is about to end. It’s pretty disappointing, but it is what it is. When Sandman does come around it’s right after he swears not to use the black suit again, but he uses the black suit to fight Sandman anyway.
•He’s damn well aware that the black suit is bad news. He just doesn’t care. He’s constantly rude to MJ when he has it on. He switches between them interchangeably during battles (don’t ask me how) and the game will freeze time just to let you take the black suit off.
•We all know how the nonsense with Eddie goes. Eddie turns in fake photos to the Bugle to get the job. The game version takes an even WORSE idea of this. Instead of faking photos… Eddie gets the bright idea to get his own black Spider-Man suit and starts MUGGING people, and as soon as you punch him, he falls to the ground. His career is ruined after this. The conversation goes like this. Eddie: “You ruined my chance at becoming a success” Spider-Man: “A success at what? Mugging people while wearing tights?” Eddie: “You’re one to talk”
•Spider-Man actually saves J Jonah Jameson and he ends up thanking him. Only to proceed to try to take Spider-Man down later.
•Spider-Man fights Morbius… they fight almost to the point of Morbius dying. Dr Connors looks after Morbius as a “favor” to Spider-Man for saving his life. He takes Morbius to Shriek, who is his wife in the game, apparently. This was a great idea on Spider-Man’s behalf (sarcasm)! Shriek revives Morbius and they both attempt to kill him, so then he has to save them both at the end. He continues to save Shriek’s life anyway after they both try to kill him.
•In the final battle with Shriek. Four fake versions of the people in his life surround Spider-Man and insult him, Harry bringing up his father, MJ angry with him for putting her life in danger just by being with her, and Dr Connors saying various things to him as well. All various upsetting things. The last person? J Jonah Jameson. What does he do? Constantly yells “YOU’RE FIRED!”
•VENOM IS BUFF. HE’S SO MUCH THICKER THAN HE WAS IN THE MOVIE. He’s voiced by Topher Grace, but his Venom is WAY better in the game version. He forces Sandman to help by kidnapping his daughter, Sandman initially refuses to fight Spider-Man. Eddie doesn’t give him a choice.
•“You don’t have to go to the beach… THE BEACH IS COMING TO YOU!” -Sandman, in their first battle
•Mary Jane repeatedly screaming and complaining about Peter’s swinging after an argument caused by the black suit. “I figured you were talking enough for the both of us.” He continuously comments about how annoying he thinks she is.
•I maybe cried because I thought Dr Connors died. Kraven the hunter stabs him in the back after Spider-Man stops the Lizard from turning Kraven into a lizard. I was very distraught about that because I never thought Dr Connors could ever matter that much to me. He was in fact not dead, and turned himself into a much larger lizard who I then had to slam into large electrical generators. Good times.
•At the end battle, he has to fight Venom and Sandman. Twice each. Harry comes back before the first Venom fight starts, apologizes, and says he knows that Peter didn’t kill his father. And he says Peter has always been there for him (which isn’t so true, but whatever, Harry). After the second Sandman fight, the goal is to explode Sandman. Venom swings Harry off his glider into the enlarged Sandman, where he blows up and is never seen again. You’d think everyone would be devastated, right? No. Peter just yells “Harry!” in a nonchalant voice and Harry is never mentioned again. Not even at the ending, nothing is said about Harry. He gave up his life and doesn’t even get mentioned in Peter’s little end of game speech.
•Adding onto the Harry nonsense. In the PS3/Xbox 360 versions, there’s a more difficult fight with Harry. The PS2 version? Nope. You just hang off of Harry’s glider while he runs straight into traffic. Harry is flying right into traffic and your job is to stop him from crashing into cars, you have to knock him off his glider. Remember the previous game where he’s around somewhat and doesn’t appear until it’s nearing the end? Yeah. You have a New Goblin fight at the beginning and he just disappears after. He’s not even mentioned until the end where he’s in the hospital by himself. RIP Harry. You deserved better.
So I’m realizing now that this was a lot longer than I meant it to be. I 100% recommend those games if you can get your hands on them for any console because they’re an absolute mess. And they’re all voiced by Tobey Maguire. There’s a lot more to them than I can fit into one post but that’s my little rant. I’ve been dying to talk about how stupid they are but no one wants to hear about it. Genuinely cannot believe they’re official movie merchandise. I’m buying the collector’s edition for PS3 as soon as possible because I’m dying to play as Harry. They’re hilarious and I know I left a ton out, but they don’t deserve any hate they may have gotten. This post doesn’t do them justice on how great and how hilarious they are.
and in case you were wondering what ps2 goblin looks like (yes it's a discord emoji)
If this isn’t reason enough to buy those games and a console to play them on I don’t know what is. Wonderful addition thank you
Hey Tornrose24, what are your thoughts of Rosie Octavius and how do you feel that she wasn’t in Spider-Man no way home? (You don’t have to answer this if this makes you uncomfortable.)
I love her! I was honestly bummed that she wasn’t from the comics like Otto, but I love that she was the perfect match for him (passionate, an intellectual, etc.). I also liked that it was made clear in the short time that we knew her that she did have a career and life and wasn’t just an assistant for her husband or just a plot device for him.
Honestly I wish she WAS canon to the comics. I know Otto has had his share of love interests in the comics, but Rosie was the first one I knew of and their history and relationship only gets better as I get older. I don’t think the tentacles would have had so strong of a control over him and I don’t think he would have been so quick to make that sacrifice if she had been around. (Also in the tie-in video game, he was PISSED about her death even while under the control of the tentacles, which was a nice way of not just forgetting about her that fast).
I didn’t mind that she wasn’t in No Way Home because already we had to divide the focus on so many characters and she didn’t even know about Peter’s secret so it wouldn’t have worked. If she was, she’d have to be an MCU variant and I’d like to imagine that version of her is happy with the MCU version of Otto. While I was open to the idea of Otto finding a version of his wife that’s still alive, it’s probably for the best that he went back home. (For one thing, he would have forgotten about Peter like the rest of the world and Tony beat him to his life’s goal… and considering how dangerous and insane the MCU gets–not to mention whatever the hell is going to happen with the Kang plot line for the MCU–he and the others dodged a bullet).
Besides I have this head canon that–because of how some things don’t add up involving her death–she might have been saved in Otto’s new timeline. And I already did a fan fic about that.
A sad irony, imo, is the difference in whose stories are told, and whose are concealed.
Norman, who ultimately was selfish, vain, greedy, and unkind toward his son, died with only Peter knowing that he was the Green Goblin. Keeping this secret from Harry out of respect for Norman’s wishes ended up poisoning Peter’s friendship with him. Publicly speaking, Norman got to save face.
Otto, meanwhile, focused upon bringing clean energy to the city, and was a warmer person in general. While he still was arrogant, and I have seen the argument made that his doing what the actuators told him is not an excuse (which I understand but disagree with – it’s complicated), he was not as cruel as Norman. He died with the city knowing who he had become, and it would not surprise me if he was still thought of as a monster in the time following his death.
Yeah this sucks. This is one reason why it’s hard to like Norman. Of the two, Otto was a genuinely good person and paid an even larger price for one mistake… and gets vilified after death by the public for things not entirely within his control. Norman meanwhile gets off scott free despite doing far worse.
And then there’s what awaits them after No Way Home. Otto might have to go to jail if he survives and unless Peter could help him out, he could be screwed for the crimes he committed. And he can’t use his good deeds in the MCU to prove he was under the influence of the tentacles when he committed crimes in the Raimi-universe. Norman would still go on a free man since he never revealed his face to anyone (besides Peter) as the Green Goblin…. though he’ll have to live with his actions and I doubt he’d see a therapist for any of it.
There’s something fitting about hearing Dashboard Confessional’s ‘Vindicated’ (best known for being in the end credits of Spider-Man 2) while in a Hot Topic at your mall. A Hot Topic that has been around since your middle school years. And you feel nostalgic for a certain time where music was different yet good and rock music was great.
And nostalgic for a time when you just wanted to hang out with friends and enjoy life. Where your worries were making sure you’d pass your classes.
And there were no cell phones so you were able to pay more attention to everything around you hold onto the memories later as hard as you could.
For the kid meme Otto and rosie?
For the kid ask meme
Ah yes! The perfect ‘what if!' This is one I like! ^_^
Name: Elliot (both because Rosie likes the poet T.S. Eliot, but also because that was a name Otto took up in the comics during the Superior Spider-Man run.)
Gender: male
General Appearance: would look a lot like his father (would have the reddish-brown SM2 color with a bit of the NWH curls).
Personality: Intelligent and friendly. Good in academics. Might enjoy reading Douglas Adams and J.R.R. Tolkien books. Probably is a lot more humble and has better common sense than his father.
Special Talents: Engineering.
Who they like better: Likes his parents equally, but probably spends more time with his father.
Who they take after more: Otto in terms of intellect and charisma, in addition to also liking science. (Though I’d think his more sociable nature would come from Rosalie).
Personal Head canon: I firmly believe that Raimi!Peter and Mary Jane had to have a kid and it’s none other than May ‘Mayday’ Parker. (No baby stealing or demon dealing BS to erase her, because that’s stupid). And in this scenario, because Peter stayed in touch with Otto, Eliott would be like an older brother figure to May.
Also, this ask prompt me to do some drawings I’ve been meaning to do.
Rewatching spiderman 2 (surprise surprise) and i am always struck by how gently and compassionately Peter speaks to Otto at the end of the movie. This is someone Peter has every reason to be angry with, who has personally hurt him and his loved ones - but he also recognizes that Otto is someone who has suffered immensely, been made a freak show by the media (and boy does Peter understand that), who was forced on the run and left alone to deal with trauma and grief. Peter is the only one after the accident to treat him like a human being, with incredible understanding, and that is just…that does something to me
and on the same note, Otto listens. most villains would have laughed at Peter or scorned him or even thought they were too far gone. but Otto takes hold of the mercy he was extended. he shows Peter kindness in turn and takes responsibility for his actions, because really, i think all he needed was someone to tell him he wasn’t a monster :’)
and i dunno nothing will ever top that climax in how emotionally satisfying it is
I love that scene so much and it says a lot that Peter willingly unmasked himself to Otto.
And I think that-unlike with Norman-Peter had witnessed the gradual downfall of Otto and was able to better approach him because of that. That and he had a better sense of why Otto was acting the way he was.
And honestly I like a version of Peter that’s compassionate towards his villains and those who need it. Especially when it’s as himself and not as Spider-Man.
Hi Tumblr, its been a few years. Me and my artist friends animated this ENTIRE TOURNAMENT for you guys and the video is under performing because it has ‘SEXY’ in the title. Care to share it around?
Yeah idk how well tumblr is with this kind of stuff anymore but here it is, have fun :)
