Heyo. For the Character asks, can you do Mr. Wolf and Diane please?
Mr. Wolf
-Ignoring my first impressions from the books (which I looked through long before I knew they’d make a movie), I admit the idea of this charismatic wolf who happens to be a thief, but starts liking the idea of doing good is a nice concept. Also... I’m not a furry... but I get the appeal. I figured he’d be popular with the furries, but... yeah, I get it myself.... anyway moving on.
-I like that despite acting like it’s not a big deal, he addresses how he’s actually hurt by the stereotypes people have towards him and how he would be seen as the first suspect if something went wrong. I also like how he tries to use the idea of ‘trying to be good’ as a ruse to pull off the ultimate heist with his friends, but then he genuinely wants to be accepted and to do the right thing for real. He’s not going to get rewarded for ‘going good’ and its clear that he knows it, but he doesn’t really want anyone innocent to get hurt or worse.
-The moment with the kitten is very sweet, but looking back at the film, I think this is where he truly shows that he wants genuine acceptance from another outside of his friends and where he tries to earn the kitten’s trust. And then the kitten does and not only warms up to wolf, but enjoys being around him.
Other than that there’s too many other great moments, but this one is especially adorable. Also the dance sequence with Diane and him giving back the diamond ring is pretty sweet.
-I’d like to see him and his friends help out others who also suffered the same experiences of being stereotyped or never given a chance to be accepted. We need more people who can truly connect with others who’ve gone through a lot–especially at a young age–and that would be nice to see in both fiction and reality.
-I’m not overly fond of the idea of a romantic ship between him and Snake... but I DO acknowledge that they might be a might more than just best friends (plus it seems to be canon in the books if what I heard is anything to go by). And I get why others like it so much.
-Romantically I like the idea of him with Diane since they seem to be pretty well matched. Friendship wise, I enjoy the companionship he has with his fellow Bad Guys–they have their moments, but they do care about each other.
-Hard to say, but I like the idea that he probably likes George Clooney since he references him at one point in the film. Probably helps that Clooney has played a thief or a prison escapee on the run in a number of his films.
Diane Foxington
-While she did scream ‘love interest’ in the trailer, I knew there was a fox character from the books and I figured she was in reference to that character, if not THAT specific character.
-I like the twist that the Governor is actually a once well known thief, but that she put that life aside because she realized that she was living out the stereotype people had towards her, and that she chose her new life to do better for others. And that her experiences gives her an understanding of the Bad Guys even before she meets them face to face. I like that she is also genuinely encouraging towards Wolf and the others and that she was willing to risk her secret if it meant protecting others and making sure that the charity money went to their respective locations.
-The dance sequence with Wolf is awesome, but I like that she helped rescue the Bad Guys and showed off just how powerful she actually is. It’s a pretty awesome sequence and I like the cute smile she makes when her former title pops up on the screen.
-I’d love to see how she became the governor and what kind of obstacles she had to face. (Sadly, considering Dreamworks Animations’ weird aversion to not having the love interests/oc female characters in any of the series for a few of their films, I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t show up in a prequel series about the Bad Guys).
-I wish she was named ‘Ellen’ since Diane is supposed to be based on Ellen from the books (especially since their backstories are similar up to a certain point).
-The relationship with Wolf is pretty adorable since they are pretty well in sync at times and that she was able to see through him (or so I think) when they first met. Also that shared background she has with him gives her an understanding that he and his friends have gone through and–as said before–she’s encouraging to him and does hope that his friends will be understanding/will come back for him after they part ways. And if they never ended up together romantically, they would still make good friends.
-I don’t know... maybe she secretly enjoyed reading/hearing about the Bad Guys’ capers and schemes while critiquing them in her head about what they could have done better.
