daydreaming until my brain hurts

I am a female artist and an aspiring writer. I love video games (like the Legend of Zelda), anime, musical theater, etc. Sometimes I can focus too much on certain things.

So for the Secret Superhero AU, I just had an amusing idea as a crossover, given some similarities involving backstories and the (very slight) possibility of most DW films taking place in the same universe.

What if.... Benjamin and Megamind were old childhood pals?

Since Megamind takes place in Michigan, which is close to Ohio, it would be likely possible.

So Bernice probably sends Benjamin to a crappy Summer camp up north for various reasons (because of COURSE she did). Benjamin expected that it was going to be dumb, but instead he befriends this strange child who also doesn't come from a good home life and ALSO turns out to be from another planet. (Even better–both their planets were once allies before they were destroyed).

They are pen pals after that, and years later MM instead becomes a world famous inventor with side gigs of doing effects for rockstars and is a motivational speaker for troubled and disadvantaged kids and teens who end up at continuation schools/juvenile hall/orphanages. He still shoots a message or two to CU from time to time. (And shows mild interest when Benjamin mentions there's a genius inventor kid at his school who has some admiration toward him).

While not Dulcinea-related, it involves DreamWorks Animation, the place where Dulcinea was created at, which still counts.

Anyways, YouTuber and Voice Actor, Brian Hull, made an animated short where the Ethical Bug is finding a new DreamWorks Villians to redeem...IT GOES AS WELL AS YOU EXPECT!!!!

While I do have a some nitpicks on this video, I think Death is more of an obstacle than a full blown villian like the others, This is a very funny video that makes fun of the villians and thier films while staying true to thier personality.

Give it a watch if you can!

Could any of the Dreamworks Animation films that I’ve seen work as a live action film?

In light of the news of How to train your Dragon getting a live action remake, I decided to do this list for fun. Keep in mind that these are the films that I HAVE seen from start to finish, in case your favorite is not on here. (Madagascar and Trolls are such examples of not being on the list).

Prince of Egypt-Absolutely yes. As long as you cast the right ethnicities for the roles (who are also good singers if you want to take the musical approach), and hire a crew that is good at doing their research, then yes this could work.

Road to El Dorado–Also yes for the same reasons as Prince of Egypt.

Spirit–The best thing about this is that you could use real horses and not rely on CGI for this one. Though some people (and we know who they are) would be ticked off because ‘oh the Americans are the bad guys.’

Chicken Run–Nah, I’d leave this alone. It’d be interesting as a stage play, but I don’t think a live action film would work. Plus I feel that would make a lot of the darker elements even worse. Alternatively, you could screw this up by having it be human focused and have OCs be the ones to save the chickens like in Dumbo, and no one wants that.

Shrek (any of the films)–Eh…. If they did 80’s style practical effects and saved the CGI for specific things, it could work. Otherwise half the characters would be in CGI as well as almost the entire scenery if you went with the lazy route, in which case it won’t work. Also, given how things have changed, someone would have Lord Farquaad be played by a regular sized man, which would not be taken well by some fans. If they mess with Fiona’s character, it wouldn’t be well received either.

Puss in Boots–same as Shrek. If they go with the CGI route for the entire cast, it won’t work, unless you go with a theater approach (which would be the better choice).

Kung Fu Panda (any of them)–Absolutely not. They’d go with the CGI route for this one and it’d be crap. Also my understanding is that Chinese audiences love the Kung Fu Panda films and I don’t think you’d want to anger them if you were trying to appeal to them for money like with the live action Mulan. The ONLY way you could do this is to have the actors in costumes (not cheesy costumes, but good costumes that incorporate the animal elements as well as Chinese culture) and take nods to Eastern theater/cinema for this to work. Knowing Hollywood, it’s doubtful the second option would come into play.

Monsters vs Aliens–It’d be neat to see this with cheesy old school effects, but I can’t see this being a live action film given how the original didn’t do well enough with most people.

How to train your Dragon (what started this whole thing)–A puppet version of Toothless would be cool. However we all know the dragons are most likely going to be CGI, so… yeah, this might not be well liked.

Megamind–given how popular Marvel is, they could pull this off (but probably try to have Megmind be in disguise for longer chunks of the film to avoid having the actor be in make up so much). Though expect certain people to throw a fit because the whole thing with Hal being more than just a creep towards Roxane is STILL relevant in this day and age.

Rise of the Guardians–Same with Shrek. In the right hands the costumes and make up would be amazing. But they’d likely go for CGI for Bunnymund and the fairies, as well as most of the scenery, in which case it might not work.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman–Could you learn from the mistakes the first live action Sonic film almost made? It all depends on how Mr. Peabody is done, but either way I don’t think this adaption could work. Then again a lot of those ‘Rocky and Bullwinkle and friends’ cartoons have had several live action films, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this film also got that treatment.

Home–Nah. I know what route they’d take with this film (given that most of the cast are aliens, and they wouldn’t use a live action cat for Pig, not to mention all the alien stuff), so no.

Boss Baby–OH HELL NO! NO! NO! NO! Not only is this a terrible idea, but it’s already been proven that CGI babies are terrible. You know damn well they’ll go with the CGI baby route if they do this. I don’t want to see a CGI baby in live action talk with an adult’s voice. We will have entered an apocalypse if this ever happens.

Captain Underpants–Honestly I’d be curious to see this and I think it could be pulled off. The catch is that there’s some things that’d have to be CGI (unless you keep the books’ more creative approaches to certain scenes and moments), you’d have the same Farquaad issue and have to have a regular sized person play the bad guy, you’d need to find the right crew who wouldn’t treat the story or characters as complete jokes, and you’d need to find a pretty well rounded actor who shares physical similarities to CU/Krupp, has enough energy to play both roles, and is willing to… well, you know… be running around in his underwear for all to see.

The Bad Guys–this would be hard to do if you made the wrong creative choices. You could do the Sonic approach with the main characters, but if you just made them all humans with animal characteristics/are just regular humans with code names then its probably not going to work (I mean, that’s interesting, but not everyone would be all for that). Also, I don’t know if just having the actors in make up and costume would work.

In the  ‘How The Suicide Squad SHOULD have ended’ video, Megamind finally showed up. Except he’s with the anti-hero characters (like Venom, Dadpool, and now Loki (or at least his variant)). Which means he’d be more likely to show up at that bar for anti-heroes in the How it Should Have Ended videos.

So if the people who make the How it Should Have Ended videos actually know the entire Dreamworks Animation film collection, then Captain Underpants is the ACTUAL superhero of the two AND the one who should get to visit the cafe and sit with Superman and Batman.

....Then again, given how HiSHE had already taken so long to acknowledge Megamind alone, I don’t have full confidence in them to know that.

Happy Superhero Day! Screenshot this post to see which DreamWorks superhero you are!

I know you want me to play your game, but we CAN take as many screenshots as possible until we get the superhero we like. (Not sure how Monsters vs Aliens counts as a superhero film either).

Besides, as much as the other films are good, only one Dreamworks superhero is the best of them all:

Ah yes. If you are in the role of the love interest/actual protagonist/secondary protagonist in the Dreamworks Princess AU, you either luck out (and maybe get a cool outfit) or you have you go through some traumatizing ordeals.

(And in case anyone asks–I see Ralph as an honorary ‘prince’ and since I gave Adora his role, she’s here too.)

Avatar

Apparently in the ‘How it should have ended’ video for Spiderman 2, they had Farquad (or however it’s spelled) from Shrek in the background of the Villain’s Pub. So I’m guessing ‘How Shrek should have ended’ might happen in the future.

Meanwhile, I’m waiting for the writers to realize that they somehow missed the fact that Dreamworks Animation did 2 superhero movies and I’m waiting to see how that Superhero Cafe episode will go down. Because the insanity would be glorious to behold and would make a lot of people happy.

How it should have Ended/Superhero Cafe: Does an episode for nearly every superhero film or a film that features a superhero. Same goes for the supervillains in the Villain’s Pub.

ALSO How it should have Ended/Superhero Cafe: Has done an episode for the three superhero films made by Disney and Pixar.

ALSO ALSO How it should have Ended/Superhero Cafe: It’s been nearly 10 years and they COMPLETELY forgot/aren’t aware that Dreamworks Animation (a studio JUST as well known as Disney and Pixar) has done two animated superhero films that they could have done an episode on.

HOW How it should have Ended/Superhero Cafe could solve this: Have a hilarious crossover involving Megamind and Captain Underpants in the superhero cafe to address how a lot of movies that are genuinely good tend to get screwed over either due to poor timing for the release date or lack of interest from average theater goers compared to those who are genuinely interested.

Wanted to return to a few more girls for the Dreamworks Princess AU in the limited color style so…

-Adora (Ralph) and Glimmer (Vanellope) having fun (and yes, we have another ‘special guest’ in the background again. Take a guess as to who she takes the place of. And no, I couldn’t resist that print.)

@princeasimdiya12 had the idea that the rose was a gift given to Megamind by his parents in the AU.  Though he said that the rose was supposed to reflect Megamind’s emotional state so it really should look a bit more decayed than it should be right now based off the scene in question.

So for this pic of Edith (Snow White) I actually referenced a similar scene from Once upon a Time to get the effect I wanted. Also, I anticipate that someone in the CU fandom is going to... um... try to send a certain someone after me for putting her through this.

Dreamworks Princess AU is co-owned by me and princeasimdiya12

Aw they all look great! ^_^ And all the girls look super cute.

And thank you @edaro. The reason why there was so much white in the original designs was because I was experimenting with a limited color scheme, but I like how they work in this picture.

“You have to go back”

So I once had this idea that all the stories for the Dreamworks Princess AU were happening at the exact same time a la Game of Thrones and one of them involved this particular crossover between the Beauty and the Beast (Megamind) and the Snow White (Captain Underpants) stories.

He wasn’t sure where he was drifting towards. He had been told by many that he would most likely go to hell, for why would heaven accept such a strange thing as him if he had no place amongst humans? “You!” Confused, he turned around. “Whoa, jeez!” He panicked and nearly twisted his body into a tangled mess of limbs upon seeing the woman who startled at his reaction. Upon realizing that she wasn’t going to do anything, he relaxed. “Uh, you nearly gave me a scare there!” He tried to casually, nonchalantly pass it off. He had so much to be scared about–like where he was going to go if he wasn’t going to make it, what was going to happen to Roxanne– “So, uh–are we in... where am I anyway?” He studied her over. She wasn’t his type, but she was pretty in an adorable way and had some rather bright blue eyes that reminded him a bit of his precious rose that his parents gave him before they died. For some reason, she was wearing an incredibly tacky and rather tattered looking red cape with black dots (something he would never be caught dead wearing himself, to pardon the poorly timed joke) over a far more appealing dress. The way she looked at him was not like the town of idiots or most anyone else who conditioned him to think that he didn’t belong–she wasn’t seeing him as a beast, but as a person, like so few others. Like Roxanne...

“Are you an Angeel?” He asked, not realizing he mispronounced the word, yet it brought a small smile to the woman’s face. “No, but you shouldn’t see me. I don’t know where this is, but I know you shouldn’t be here.” She told him. “You have to go back. You got some people who need you.” “Uh, lady, I’m pretty sure I’m dead.” He countered. “Logically, if I didn’t wake up to see... to see...” He didn’t want to finish it–didn’t enjoy reliving seeing the woman he loved crying over him while he was bleeding out dry. “You have to go back!” The blue eyed lady insisted. “You still have a chance to wake up!  You still have a chance to tell her how you feel! It’s too late for me, but you can!” “What do you mean, it’s too late for you?” He raised an eyebrow at her, but then he caught it the second before she said it–the pain of sorrowful regret. The loss of uttering things doomed to remain unspoken. “I... I never got the chance to tell him how I felt.” She shut her eyes and hung her head. “I should of said something if I knew–” Her voice was tightening up and suddenly he understood all too well what she was going through. “I’m so sorry Benjamin.” He barely heard her whisper. Suddenly, he felt a warmth behind him and he turned around to see a light glimmering in the distance. If he listened closely, he could hear a faintly familiar sound–a familiar voice calling out to him. “You have to go back.” She sniffed and rubbed her eyes as she insisted once more. “She needs you.” “Wait a minute, who are you talking about?” He asked as he turned to her. “What’s your name and who is the guy you’re talking about–?” “Just go before it’s too late!” She rushed at him and without warning, he was shoved towards the light. He was going to wake up seconds later in the real world surrounding by some very relieved close companions and even though it was raining like crazy and he was nearly soaking wet, he could care less. He would have just barely escaped death and his soul was freed from limbo. Meanwhile, her body was still laying on the floor in the real world–green poison still oozing out of her opened mouth and out of the bite from the apple beside her. Her soul was still trapped in limbo until true love’s kiss could bring her back to life.

I love the Dreamworks Once Upon A Time idea but being unfamiliar with the inspiration series, I was confused by the reference to there being a reason for the characters' cursed forms' names. Would you mind explaining the reason? Because the first thing that popped into my head was "actors/voice actors connected to the character" but that doesn't seem right...

Avatar

So in Once upon a Time, the cursed identities of the fairy tale characters have names that hint at their true identities. For example Red Ridding Hood’s cursed counter part name ‘Ruby’ and Rumplestiltskin’s cursed counter part ‘Mr. Gold’ are very obvious. Other’s like the Mad Hatter’s name being ‘Jefferson’ doesn’t make sense until you learn that he was named after the band Jefferson Airplane that did the song ‘White Rabbit.’ Some names don’t make sense unless you understand the meaning.

The same thing applies to this AU. For example Shrek’s cursed counterpart is named after William Stieg, who wrote the original book. Fiona’s counterpart name is a nod to her identity: can you guess why she’s named ‘Green?’

Jack Frost’s cursed counterpart name… well, it’s pretty obvious why he’s called ‘Winters.’ Pitch’s cursed name came from both Edgar Allen Poe and the german word for ‘night.’

The How to Train Your Dragon characters were harder, but I went with Scandinavian names as a nod to the culture the film represents.

Both the last names of Mr. Peabody and Sherman’s cursed identities are a nod to the original voice actors (Jay Ward and June Foray) from the cartoon series.

One part of Tip’s cursed identity is a nod to Rihanna (Tip’s voice actor). Specifically her birth name. I think it was her last name.

Both Megamind and Metroman’s cursed counterpart names come from Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman (both who who played Superman and Lex Luthor in the 70’s Superman films). With that in mind, it’s easy to guess why Roxanne’s cursed counterpart’s last name is ‘Lane.’

One that probably doesn’t make ANY sense on first glance are the cursed counterparts of both George and Harold. Their first names (Matthew and Bobby) are actually the first names of the very same actors from ‘The Little Rascals’ who were their inspiration for their last names (Beard and Hutchins). Their last names are a nod to Superman’s original creators, with George’s cursed counterpart named after the writer (Siegel) and Harold’s cursed counterpart named after the artist (Shuster). Which is a VERY super important connection/fact for their true identities. Meanwhile, the reason why I named CU/Krupp’s cursed counterpart ‘David’ is because it is a nod the actual first name of CU’s creator: Dav Pilkey.

And of course there’s more…
