daydreaming until my brain hurts

I am a female artist and an aspiring writer. I love video games (like the Legend of Zelda), anime, musical theater, etc. Sometimes I can focus too much on certain things.

Remembering that CU Beauty and the Beast AU I discussed with @rigamaroo and how that was tempting to write... I admit it’s tempting now after watching the CU movie again. (Not to mention how it reminds me of the original AU that was written by someone else before the movie, but was never finished.)

But of course that also would depend on the fandom’s interest in it because writing fics are a commitment. I don’t want to do it if not enough people are interested. (And it doesn’t help that there’s another fic I may or may not do for something entirely different).

And if I did it now, I’d probably stick to a modern setting instead of the 50′s, but I’d probably keep a few crucial elements that were discussed from that setting. Especially given the crap we’ve been seeing the last few years.

(For those who didn’t know about the version of the au I talked about with rigamaroo, it wouldn’t be entirely based off the Disney version. As in mainly no talking furniture.)

Can Jeree exist in ur cu aus?

Avatar

…..Maybe? both Jerry and Ree have appeared in my aus/aus I’ve co-created, but they’ve never been in the same exact one, let alone been an official pairing in them. (So far Ree has been in 3 AUs-two of which are co-created with other fellow CU fans and he’s got an important role in both of them (and he’s paired with Yewh in the Tangled AU sequel). Jerry was in the Pinocchio AU but he didn’t have a good fate in it…. nor was he one hundred percent LGBTQ at the time, if I remember correctly. Then again I think there was talk of him cameoing in the Beauty and the Beast AU. )

Avatar

I’m considering doing another CU AU fic. I’m debating between the Beauty and the Beast AU that me and @rigamaroo talked about or the Pinocchio AU. The coronavirus has no end in sight and I want something to fight the boredom if it continues into the fall.

If I do the Pinocchio AU, I might not be able to maintain the K plus rating on fanfiction dot net if I use alcohol and smoking like the original cartoon had (I don’t know if that counts as ‘adult content’ which K plus fics can’t have) and I want the kid fans to be able to read it. (Ironic how the movie STILL has its G rating despite having both). I probably wouldn’t be risking any trouble if it was on archive.

And I’m torn because both have some things that would be fun to write out... I don’t know if I could do both at the same time...

Which one do you guys think I should do? Send me a comment for your thoughts (and feel free to check the ‘cu pinocchio au’ and the ‘cu beauty and the beast au’ tags on my profile if you want to see the ideas I had).

@princeasimdiya12 I do find it cute. ^_^ Even though I wasn’t actually the first one to come up with this AU, it is still really cute.

I wasn’t able to reply to that thing you sent me about the boys meeting ‘CU’ in the CU BatB AU the usual way, so…

It’d probably take about the same about of time it took to realize the Edith in the dream was the real one. Though that IS the best way for him to determine ‘yup, it’s these guys.’

Oi, I’d imagine there’d have to be some sort of filter to these dreams to keep the three from realizing who ‘CU’ is right away. Like Krupp hears himself as how he actually sounds, but to Edith and the boys, it’s how CU is normally voiced when the persona activates (I know that you can almost tell both personalities have slightly similar voices with Helms, but with Faxon–holy beejeezus, it’s you could almost mistake them for separate people because of how drastic the difference is).

But yeah, that would be so sweet… and it would seem like something similar to How the Grinch stole Christmas (little kid mistakes impostor for the real deal). It would have to come at a point where Krupp is gradually getting more comfortable around the boys and is starting to give in, but it would be when he’s as ‘CU’ that he realizes why it’s better to not be a monster to children. Even if you can’t win every child over, it’s nice to feel as if a child or two does trust you and looks up to you, and isn’t out for themselves in the process.

Especially if George and Harold let it slip and remind him that none of the adults support their creativity… as well as the fact that their school will have to kick some students out (due to overcrowding/too high of a student population) and they are worried that if they separate, they’ll forget or abandon each other. And these two are just pouring their worries out to the only thing they feel like they can trust–even moreso than Edith.

Which would make one hell of a nasty guilt trip for ‘CU’ who’d try to reassure them that there’s no way in heck they’d forget or abandon each other, even if that happened, since the two seem that close to each other (though he’d never say for sure HOW he knows or how almost destroying that bond ensured his curse to happen).

But he’d get more comfortable being someone entirely different to a child than what he used to be.

Though unfortunately for him, George and Harold WILL find out who ‘CU’ REALLY was in their dream and they’ll enjoy that for a very long time. Though if he found out which identity he was taking on as a human in the dream world beforehand, I could imagine the sheer embarassment and frustration he’d feel.

———————————————————

That would be pretty funny to see Krupp’s eyes slowly grow as he thinks, ‘have I been in my underwear the ENTIRE TIME??!?!??!’ And then, in his following dreams, he’s trying everything in his power to hide from everyone. Even though they reassure him everything’s alright, Krupp could still huddle behind hedges and stuff just to avoid them gawking at him. It’s bad enough he’s half naked, he’s also highly self conscious about his appearance (even before the curse.)

It’d probably take quite a bit of coaxing before he’d step out, not to mention George and Harold heckling him for being a diaper baby about it.

Though I do wonder on if he meets the boys later on in the story when he won’t be so cold towards them. Or if they did meet earlier, would his Krupp-like anger inspire them to create blunderpants? There’s a lot that could happen depending on when they all get to interact.

Either way, I’d def be looking forward to when Krupp finally softens enough he starts to see the upside in playing the hero persona. Maybe Edith could even suggest, “you attract more flies with honey rather than vinegar.” And he can’t really argue with the results.

But despite it all, what if Harold and George could see something was bothering ‘CU’ and the conversation of what you said before comes up? As happy go lucky as the boys are, they fear for the future for not just them but the other kids as well.

‘CU’ could try to be reassuring, reminding them that nothing’s set in stone and how they’re “to stubborn to take anything lying down”. And, in a way, their pig-headedness reminds him of himself. Maybe at this point the boys could’ve realized he’s really Krupp (though playing it off like they don’t know), and return his encouragement. “When we grow up, we can be heroes…. like you!”

“You mean you aren’t already?”

Oh such a gamble on this idea, because it would be funny if he found out, but it would make him lose a lot of confidence.

But having him meet the boys as CU is so tempting. But he’d have to meet them a bit later if he were to have a dream interaction.

But god, would the boys and ‘CU’s interactions be sweet no matter what happens.

That would be exactly like how Disney’s Beauty and the Beast went too! Murdsly would become this conspiracy crazed type of man, hair all askew and clothes in disarray, while Krupp goes through his transformation of wearing more clothes and combing his fur. You’d begin to see the lines between man and monster blur for the both of them.

And all the things you mentioned are so scary true, too. He’d be the spitting image of what the perfect 1950s man would be. Strong, successful… more people would find Edith odd for not jumping on the opportunity to be courted by him. And I’m sure Murdsly would know how much pressure is being put in her too and totally disregarding it because, “she doesn’t know what’s best for her,” or some other archaic nonsense.

The dreams would be a tricky balance to be sure. Krupp has enough patience for a pretty woman, but for two troublemaking kids (who he sees essentially ruined his life), yeah, he’d not want to be around them at all if he can help it. Dream or otherwise.

It’d probably take some outside force to get him to be around them, or an accidental dream hopping. And even then, much later in the story so he’s not a total heel to George and Harold. So maybe the boys can get glimpses of ‘CU’ when they dream, and I’m thinking they put together how they can share dreams faster than Krupp and Edith at any rate (I’d be telling my friends about my dreams and flipping out when I realized they had the same one).

Funny how the Red Scare could turn people into complete monsters. Not to mention how many people got accused and how two people DIED because of this (I can see that, during the scene where Edith is being accused of being a communist, someone will bring up the Rosenburgs and ask if Edith wants to end up like them. Only the adults will react in horror to this while the kids will be oblivious.)

I had an idea that struck me for the CU Beauty and the Beast AU between @rigamaroo and I. I feel like it was too long to include in an ask for them, so now I’ll just share it here.

I was thinking of a few things as well as a certain line from Unchained Melody–the song that Rigamaroo suggested for the equivalent of the ballroom scene.

And it’s crazy how isolation works against him in that regard. I can see him as someone who enjoyed alone time and being away from all the students and now, something he sort of felt comfortable with has become his enemy. He’s grown tired of his own voice and his own company (except for the rare occasions when Mr. Ree pays him a visit), that he’s all but starved for any sort of interaction, even if it’s to terrorize two nosy kids.

It’s sad, too, when he finally realizes how far he’s slipped from grace, seeing how easily he can hurt people beyond yelling at them. In his rage he’s not just scary, he’s dangerous, which would spear right through him and shoot what ever self confidence he had to pieces. Not that he had a lot to begin with even before the curse. I mean, he’s all but accepted the scary monster schtik as his future, but to see what that could entail… yeah, I’m pretty sure that’d be the real thing that scares him. He can do some serious damage and had Edith not screamed, he would have. That’s terrifying.

I love the lyrics in the Unchained Melody song for the reason it fits Krupp so well. He IS starved for touch, love and friendship. The way you describe his hesitancy is so relatable and understandable once you see the events prior. And Krupp is not a daring man to say the least, so of course Edith would be the one have to initiate a lot of the interactions. On the one hand, he would be delighted to see he doesn’t repulse her, but on the other he’d definitely be freaking out that he could forget himself and scratch her. Not something you want to do on the first date.

it’d be funny if after the their romantic dance, the boys switched out the record for something more fast paced, totally ruining he romantic moment. But instead of being angry, the adults just laugh and walk to a more secluded spot.

That’s basically the sucky situation for him in a nutshell, @rigamaroo

Just like in the series, no matter how much power he can have or how scary is as an adult (or in this case, a monster), he’s still just an angry bitter child deep down inside who didn’t have a lot or reasons to mature or think too much on what his actions cost. Luckily he’s being given reasons to start maturing and being aware of others’ safety and needs, even if he nearly learns it the hard way one time and it has to come out of a pure, selfless sacrifice made from love another time.

God it would be terrifying if he embraced that monstrous side of him. Well, technically he does when it comes to tormenting the boys and Edith at first, but it would fit so disturbingly well in canon (specifically the books where there’s no hint of Krupp having any hint of genuine goodness, unlike in the film and show... Pilkey, why did you waste so much potential with this?) Luckily that desire to avoid hurting them and gradually getting to know them/re-know them helps keep the monster within at bay.

(Oh my god, speaking of Krupp being touched starved, there’s a series of one shots called ‘Life Just Got Interesting’ by eivevuiisms on Archive of Our Own. The second story in it is about him being EXACTLY that and gradually growing comfortable and enjoying physical contact with Edith. It’s super sweet and worth reading.) Yeah, Edith would have to be the one initiating those particular interactions. He’d have to gradually get comfortable and then come the dance, it feels right enough that–well, I still want him to do the ‘lifting the girl up in the air and spinning her around with you’ bit because he’d TOTALLY do that.

The boys don’t require as much prompting for physical contact because... well, you know how the dynamic goes.

I can’t think of too many fast paced songs from the 50’s (well maybe some, especially if this was Elvis’ big time period) but it would be hilarious if the boys played ‘the Merry go round broke down’ as that song because of how much of a mood whiplash it would be (AKA  it’s the Looney Tunes theme, and I’m sure they would have watched those particular cartoons at the theaters).

It’s REALLY tempting to make this a fic, but I know I have things planned. Plus I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of the salesman in the series.

CU Beauty and the Beast AU drawings (there’s a LOT of them)

After talking about this AU so much with @rigamaroo, I opted to make drawings. A LOT of drawings. Because there were a lot of good ideas we shared for this and since Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite Disney film and I ADORE this AU... well, I went a little TOO overboard on this. Which is why I put up the ‘keep reading’ tab for everyone’s sanity. (Also, you might want to read our discussions in order to understand some of the images. Because 1. This AU is set in the 1950’s and 2. This AU uses the dreams from the original story, so... guess how we got to use CU for this AU. 3. Yeah, there was a LOT of discussing about this AU.)

Part 2 of the Cu Beauty and the Beast AU discussion with rigamaroo

…Mr. Ree as the Enchantress….

*cracks up laughing*

Ok, but that actually kind of makes sense (though I’m now thinking of the whole ‘Tim the Enchanter’ thing from Monty Python). You make good points and given how he’s like with Krupp as well as being an ‘only sane man’ it in of makes sense. Now I can see his ‘real form’ included a nice green suit and that toilet plunger is secretly his wand.

I don’t think he’d do the ‘offering the rose’ trick, but I think he’d try to give fair warning to Krupp about separating the boys and making so many students suffer in the process as a test to see if there’s a bit of compassion left in him. And he’d probably try to subtly remind him that ‘not all parents would be supportive if they deemed their child as failures, like if if they couldn’t pass a grade’ so see if that could awaken SOMETHING in Krupp. And of course, Krupp doesn’t listen.

Avatar
rigamaroo

Itwould be pretty nice if Mr. Ree hung around and did little things to keep the school running. He’d repair a few things, nothing enough for Krupp to realize it but just so that the place isn’t falling apart and over run with vermin. But still, he’d pop in on occasion, do some magic, see that Krupp hasn’t changed one bit and pop back out. But wouldn’t he be surprised to find Edith and the boys there, then get excited to see the small changes taking place to Krupp’s character. A sigh of relief and, “ok wise guy, don’t screw this up.” Muttered barely loud enough for anyone to hear.

Oh, and that could be why Krupp and Edith share their dreams, since Ree sees that maybe the big lummox needs some help coming out of his shell, aware of how self conscious he was before the transformation and even more so as a beast. After all, I don’t see Mr. Ree as being a spiteful person. He just wants to see people being taken care of.

Ya know, it’d be super sweet if, say, during the dream, Edith starts to feel more comfortable in practicing her dance steps with her midnight visitor. She just feels so warm and content with him, he’s all kinds of silly and encouraging aging, and says as much when she sleepily places her head on his shoulder, whispering about how she wishes they could stay like this forever. Krupp could be fighting the blush and goofy smile on his face, leaning his cheek against her hair and praying the sun never rises. But sooner rather than later they feel the warmth slip away and they know the dawn approaches.

Then to mirror a little of that into Edith dancing with Krupp in the theater, and the wheels in her head begin to turn, she can’t help but start to piece together the similarities, especially when she looks into his eyes.

It’d be interesting to have the boys witness Mr. Ree in all his magical vengeance, and then theyd get some satisfaction seeing Krupp getting his well deserved come uppance, but they’d probably flip out when he started to change (screaming and thrashing from the transformation)that Ree would find it more of a mercy if everyone forgot Benny and most especially what he turned into.

What if that fateful night came back to them in bits and pieces in the shape of nightmares, and Edith was the first to come rushing in to comfort them? They’d tell her all about how terrifying the monster in their dream was, saying it was almost like they were there and it all really happened! Then look confused when they both admit to having the same dream.

Krupp would inevitably come charging in to see what all the commotion is about, having heard them aclear across the hall to his office. But instead of being mad at them for disturbing his sleep, he’s more defensive thinking someone broke in. That area of town isn’t the safest any more and it wouldn’t be the first time some delinquent attempted to cause trouble.

Edith would explain it was only nightmares, not mentioning it was about him (since she does NOT want to deal with any more drama tonight). Krupp hmfs at that, still going around checking the windows to be sure. He eventually grumbles that unless the place was on fire, don’t make a peep, but theyd already seen the worry in his eyes and Edith can’t help but think it rather sweet he came in to protect them.

The big softy.

@rigamaroo Aw, Ree cares about Krupp. Yeah, I guess he wouldn’t want Krupp to be too miserable. He’d also be the reason why almost everything stays stocked, and how the boys and Edith could get proper bedrooms in the school, because I highly doubt there’d be much. I’m still going with the magic bedrooms, unless you want to say that the school had stuff on hand in case of an air raid.

I’m thinking that either he got the boys and eventually Edith to go to the school Ant-Man style where he dropped a word about it to Erica, who told the boys about out. Man, it’s tempting to have Yewh in this AU too, and then she could be his veela girlfriend in disguise (sorry, but it was tempting to make a Harry Potter reference). Too bad for her that the ‘oui oui’ jokes won’t stop.

Yeah, I was kind of going for something similar to that: Edith seeing Krupp’s human form. Ree wants to make sure that Edith will be prepared to know that Krupp isn’t physically attractive as a human (including the fact that he doesn’t actually have hair), but I could see how that could help Krupp out a bit and him feeling more comfortable as a human in the dream world and being seen as such could help his confidence (even though I don’t WANT him to be aware of the fact that his human form is that of CU’s, because it’s funny).

Oh god, that image of them practicing with dancing and her making that wish while he’s all happy about it…. *squeals in delight* I’d love it if they were being all awkward with working out the dance moves while music is playing on a jukebox that appeared out of nowhere. And ‘CU’ is just so happy because it’s one of many new moments where he’s beginning to have genuine fun and doesn’t have to feel so out of place. But yeah, the sun is approaching and he wants SO much to stay like this and be able to be human for a little longer–be actually able to feel her without any fur in the way, or hold her without worrying about crushing her–but alas, the dream must end.

But yeah, I could see them dancing like you said, and she shyly looks up at him. Then realizes that she’s seen those eyes before–they hold that same excitable warmth and adoration that CU has and they seem to be the exact same color, now that she thinks of it. She’s already comfortable with Krupp, but now something about those eyes is making her feel something a bit more and she ends up repeating the resting his head on his shoulder thing. And of course Krupp is internally screaming with excited joy.

YES! The boys are THERE when Ree punishes Krupp. I think you’re right, they would find it awesome, but then they see WHAT the curse is doing to Krupp (and it’s not a pretty sight, considering just how agonizing the transformation actually was for him, not to mention just how much it was like out of a horror movie, with his screams going from human to animalistic).

So the boys remembering would be like in the 2014 version of Beauty and the Beast, where the past is revealed though dreams? That would be one way to go. And I think that’s sweet that Krupp would slowly get protective of the boys (yeah, the school and the surrounding neighborhood is in complete ruins). Daw, that’s a nice way to show his softer side to Edith. I’m guessing this would be a few days after he saved them.

I don’t know if the boys would get all the details of the past right away. Like maybe they can remember the transformation and know that it was Krupp, but I think they wouldn’t know how that happened as well as their involvement until much later.

Oh by the way, I’ve been doing drawings for this AU. It’ll take me awhile before they are ready, but… well, I guess I’m doing some drawings for this.

Holy snap there’s pictures! I must see them when you finish! Seriously, your style and all these scenes would be the cutest thing in the god dang world. Just…. -grabby hands-

I like the idea of Mr. Ree enchanting the place in helping to take care of itself, and mostly to cater to good peoples needs. Like, let’s say Krupp’s spent how many years living like an animal and grumbling about plaster falling on his head or getting tripped up on the stairs, then to find out the building/magic was doing that stuff because he was being disrespectful and mean while Edith, George and Harold were finding snacks by their bed, clean clothes and what not all because they were being nice. He’d be so p.o.ed to find that out.

And also with that neighborhood being unsafe, it’s no wonder Krupp was on edge when the boys broke in. He probably imagined someone with a gun had come to kill him, but seeing it’s nothing but two snot nosed brats with a camera and flashlight makes him more mad at himself for getting so worked up.

They’d get a sense of dejavu looking at him, but the fear would be palpable when he lets lose a roar and their legs turn to rubber.

Oh, a funny idea that leads into one of yours would be how Krupp notices Edith’s aversion to standing so close to him. She sort of gasps every now and then, making his hopes sink when ever she starts to scoot away. He snidly comments about how she’s to delicate to stomach being around him, only to have Harold and George sort of slide up next to him with clothes pins on their noses, “actually, it’s because you smell like a fart trapped inside a shag rug.”

He gets so embarrassed and flustered, then self aware that there are worse things than his appearance alone. All that leads up into the boys forcing him to take a bath.

Aw shucks! *blushes* It’ll take awhile, but hopefully some time this moth. I’m still doing the pencil drawings.

Yes, loving the idea for Ree having the school cater to those who are good while giving Krupp a hard time. Krupp WOULD be SO ticked off if he found out. But I think that the more he softens up, the less he has to suffer from his own school turning on him. Also, I think Ree would let him have access to newer clothing. I mean, there’s got to be another reason for him to start wearing clothes again when he doesn’t seem to have access to them, other than it’s because he’s trying to make an effort to act more like a person again. Heck, that might even be how he gets the outfit for the dance.

Ooooh oh my oh dear -clutches heart- I’m loving every new bit added to the ballroom scene. Yes she would be so excited and you can just feel how much these two care for each other, especially when the song starts to wind down and they’re both flushed from all the Adrenalin. They can’t tear their eyes away from each, even when the boys are stealing all the dessert in the background. The world just fades away like it does in their dreams. Then slowly, they lean forward, ready to kiss, only to get pulled out of the moment when the record skips.

If the mirror scene would follow, there’d have to be a set up for it first so people know it exists. Such as both Harold, George and Edith exploring the principals office together and the boys discover it laying on the ground - while Edith is busy trying to figure out why the beast has a closet full of wigs.

They could activate the mirror by commenting on how they were wanting to see a new B-movie and it starts playing. They all get so distracted by it they don’t realize Krupp is behind them until it’s to late. Calamity ensues.

You said you were also wanting for Edith to give him a present too, sort of in exchange for the mirror. How about she gives him the hypno ring? Maybe in the beginning of the story, she had bought some crackerjack boxes for the boys, though they shared one with her to be nice. At the bottom could’ve been the ring.

Or maybe Mr. Ree could own the ring and it’s what he used to curse Krupp. So maybe then you could use the hair clip and a kiss on the cheek as the gift instead cus, ya know, home girl belle could’ve kissed the beast and I would’ve been down with that.

You make some good points with Krupp’s reaction to the boys breaking and entering. Man, that’d be all kinds of confusing on why he’s so butt hurt around them, especially if they’re all, “who even are you, old man?!”

“I’m the guy you helped ccccuurrr-cu-cuuuurrrssss-!!!! Dagnabbit!” He slams his fists into a table and splits it in half, frustrated that he can’t talk about the curse to anyone.

As for the remedy to how they handle Krupp after the wolf scene…. hmmmm. Maybe they could put some air fresheners around his neck, or spray him down with febrez before approaching. Or maybe Edith figures she’ll just have to bite the bullet and take charge whether he likes it or not. He could snarl and snap that she should stay away since he “doesn’t want to offend her with his stench.” Which could devolve into the “you need to control your temper!” bit.

“Maybe if you washed every now and then you wouldn’t smell so bad.”

“Maybe if you minded your own darn business you wouldn’t have to get close enough to smell me. What were you doing in my room?!”

“Why do you have a closet full of wigs?”

“How is that even important right now?!”

Etc etc

He’d flinch when she dabbed just a little to hard at his wounds, reminding her to be careful. She could huff, apologe for hurting him and dab more gently. He’d still clench his teeth when it stung to badly, but for the most part he’d keep his trap shut. She’d feel somewhat bad and pull her hair back, then blow on the wound to help. And badabing badaboom, Krupp finds his eyes growing in size taking her in. Even in the dreams she’s kept her face partially hidden, so this is all new and my god is she pretty!

The scene could end with the boys kind of noticing the shift between the two adults, like in the movie where they kept going on about how they like like each other.

I’m not really sure how Edith would accidentally reveal Krupp to the town, or if it would be the boys, or the mirror got misplaced or confiscated by the authorities. She couldve gotten her alibi called out for being false and turns to toilet paper salesman to whisper, “you wouldn’t believe me even if a told you.”

“You’re not a commi are you?”

“Seriously!?”

She might even be at home after dropping the boys off and, feeling alone for the first time in weeks, used the mirror to see how Krupp is doing. When she realizes how much pain he’s in, she races back outside to run face first into the cops and the toilet paper salesman (who maybe spread the rumor she was a communist in hopes of looking like a hero to her when he clears her name). They could interpret her attempts to leave as fleeing the country and, through all the confusion and tension, Harold and George let spill they’ve been at the old school.

Ok, so here’s my attempt at trying to figure out how we lead up to the mob.

So, again, it’s the 1950’s where fear of communism is a huge deal, meaning that people can be taken advantage of. I’d imagine the TP salesman wants to find reasons to make himself look good because… you know… he got made fun of as a kid.

Edith is seen as odd by most of Piqua because she’s not yet married at her age and has a job that can barely pay the bills. George and Harold’s families are looked at as odd because Grace is a single mom trying to raise two kids on her own, and people find it odd that Barbara is the one whose getting more money than her husband, in addition to being a rare African American teacher.

And I’m sure the salesman (I think his first name was Ted) might have hit on Edith a few times during a visit or two to the school, but she doesn’t want a creep like him. It’s bad enough she has to deal with the staff talking about her behind her back (“So pretty, but so shy. No wonder she hasn’t got a guy.”… damnit that rhymed).

So when the boys and later Edith vanish, George and Harold’s families are the only ones trying to find them. The adults of Piqua don’t hold them in the highest esteem to help out, and they ignore the kids who know where the boys must have likely gone to and won’t let them go near the abandoned school. Of course, this could allow those like the TP salesman to spin a yarn that either ties to ‘communists among us’ or ‘maybe the parents are hiding something.’

Also, when Edith and the boys return, he could try to maintain the lie and make it so that Edith was trying to kidnap the boys for herself or else sell the boys off to the Russians (which the boys’ parents and the kids don’t buy) especially if it was due to the way Edith brushed him off. And of course neither Edith or the boys can give the honest answer.

So when Edith is getting carted off towards the police car to jail, that’s when the boys are forced to reveal the existence of Krupp to the town. And of course, there’s more accusations of communism and that the Russians are about ready to unleash their monsters upon American cities. So yeah, it’s all due to complete BS, and when the curse finally lifts, and people remember the truth about the school’s existence, they try to come up with the dumbest reasons as to why they forgot.

And of course, the only sane ones besides our trio are the boy’s families as well as the kids, who have no clue why the adults are making a big deal out of accusing good people of being something they aren’t and shunning them in the process (also, it just so happens that the mob mentality and ‘not liking what we understand’ in Beauty and the Beast was from a film that came slightly after the AIDS epidemic, if you want to further the parallel).

I find it hilarious that which ever boy gets stuck in the girls bathroom is probably horrified there aren’t any urinals. He can lament that he has no way of going number 1 (which he probably has to go after tangling with Krupp) while the other one reminds him they have bigger issues to consider. And when Edith arrives she can be equally confused and angry that someone could be so cruel as to lock these kids up in the dark by themselves.

You know, it would be pretty neat if the hairpin she used to free the boys was also the one she gave to Krupp at the end of the ballroom scene. Just sort of a really good symbol of freedom since it sets the boys free in the beginning, holds her hair back from her face when she gets more comfortable with Krupp, then it’s a parting gift as she and the boys leave the school once they’re released.

Oh! I was also thinking that during that release scene, perhaps the clip comes loose when she gets anxious seeing the parents searching tirelessly for their sons. She doesn’t even realize her hair is in her face now as she paces, worry eating her up that they must think the worst. Krupp bends down to retrieve it, looking down at the tiny thing in his paw, then up at the rose with only one petal left. He clenches his hand, already making the biggest decision of his life.

Placing his hands on her shoulders, that’s when he reassures her everything will be alright and, fighting the words chocking him up, tells her she’s free to go, as are George and Harold. He gives her the mirror to keep, since it’ll be useless for him once the curse is complete. Pushing the bangs from her face, he goes to fix the hair clip back in place but she stops him, curling his fingers around it and pushing his hand in front of them. She then kisses his knuckles, thanking him for being so kind and, with reluctance, leaves.

Ok, now I’ve made myself sad.

As for the door scene, Krupp would be all kinds of not taking anyone’s gruff. He’s been disturbed once already with the two who (he considers) ruined his life. Now there’s a woman here sneaking about, “vandalizing” his school and aiding those troublemakers. Oh I can see him practically blocking the entire hallway (being much bigger than he was in his human form) with eyes flickering due to the flashlights. It’d be even more menacing if he sneered, “didn’t you know there’s no running in the halls.”

I half believe Edith would chuck her purse at him in fright, or maybe she came prepared with a rolling pin to defend herself, but either way it’s easy to believe he’d be backing them up down the hallway and no matter which way they ran, he’d know exactly how to cut them off until they were completely cornered. The boys could even try to hide in some lockers, but he would smell them out quickly and yank them back out.

Edith would plead for him to release them, promising they won’t tell a soul about him if he does, but Krupp isn’t buying it and like heck he’s gonna let George and Harold go after everything they’ve put him through. If he has to stay a beast, he figures he might as well get SOME justice.

That’s when Edith makes an offer to take there place, startling him at first. He wonders what her relationship with them is, then snorts at how amusing it is she thinks she can barter with him. “Take their place? Heh, how ‘heroic’ of you.”

“D-does that mean you’ll… let them go?”

He towers over her, then leans down to flash his teeth, “not a chance.”

“But their families! You can’t just-!”

“I CAN DO WHAT EVER I WANT!” Then yanks her up and shoves her in another room, commenting that since she’s so inclined to stay here he’ll be more than happy to let her.

He really isn’t a very nice person to be around in the beginning parts of this story. I bet Mr. Ree is face palming the entire time, maybe even considering popping in there to help the three escape since it seems Krupp’s isolation has made him even more of a loose cannon. But seeing as how he hasn’t hurt them, and seems content to keep them locked up, gives the enchanter just a little hope.

On a lighter note, I was wondering what all they could do to start patching up the relationships? I’m not sure if we ever decided on if it was winter or not in this au, but would he trust them enough to go out into the courtyard to play, and wouldn’t he worry passerby’s might see them? Or maybe there’s a huge brick fence instead of a chain length one surrounding the playground. If it is set in winter, it would be cute if the boys managed to get outside (with Edith watching over them) and they went about building a snow fort called Fort Buttcheeks (since they accidentally made the top part round and lopsided like a butt).

Krupp could be watching from a window, shaking his head at their antics as they pretended to fight off the snow people Edith made surrounding them. He gets annoyed with all the laughter, sticking his head out to yell at them to keep it down, only to get pelted in the face with a snowball by Edith. “Stop encouraging them!”

“Oh, lighten up you fuddy duddy. It’s just a little snow.”

“It’s messy and wet and I… don’t even think about it, bubs!” He glares down at the boys taking aim, then is hit once more by all three, who proceed to taunt him until he jumps down and glowers at the lot. At first he just wants to get them to stop having fun, but then he throws his own snowball to stop their laughing and finds it satisfying when Edith squeals, covered in mush.

They all start a huge snowball war that lasts until Edith sneaks up behind Krupp, ready to toss one of the snowmen heads on him, until she loses her footing and slips. Her yelp causes him to spin around, reflexively catching her before she falls down. She’s red faced from the cold and embarrassment, not to mention he has her squished against his belly and she can feel how soft he is against her cheek.

She whispers a soft “thank you” just when he asks if she’s alright. They both keep talking at the same time, then nervously laugh as he sets her back on her feet, keeping his hands close in case she slips again.

Edith tries to calm the butterflies in her stomach by distracting herself with the boys, telling them it’s time to get warmed up inside with coco. Krupp lingers a little, not sure if he should follow them in since she wasn’t talking to him, but when she realizes he’s still standing outside, she waves her hand, “you too, mister. Even with fur, you have to be a little cold. I did just kick your butt in a snowball fight.”

“Hardly, I had you all beat.”

Judging by your interpretation, Harold was probably the one to get locked up in the girl’s bathroom. And he’s annoyed to the point he starts doodling on the stall walls. Also, the bathrooms had windows in the film, so they aren’t completely in the dark until nighttime rolls around. Also, they probably have to sleep on toilet seat covers to avoid germs…. and use TP for pillows… oh, actually, that sounds like something that could be in the show! But anyway, I bet their attempts to talk back and forth would be amusing.

I originally imagined that the hairpin she gives to Krupp was a fancy one that went with the outfit (and the makeshift lock pick would get lost) but I like that idea. Especially if that symbol of freedom can get extended to Krupp, seeing as she’s a metaphorical key to freeing him from his misery/awful ways.

Giggle/snorts supposing Krupp didn’t skimp on the school supplies, that to might be the most comfortable thing in the entire building. Oh heck, who am I kidding, he probably got sandpaper for the stales. Still, that def sounds like an episode idea, here’s hoping it’s in season 2 (like Krupp can’t pay his bills any more so he moves into the schools basement all phantom of the opera style).

You know, I wasn’t sure if Edith would have the confidence to kiss him, even on the cheek, at that point. Would their relationship have built up that much, or would she be to shy to get that intimate with him? Then there’s the whole case of do both her and dream Krupp kiss each other’s cheeks or does dream Krupp kiss her flat on the lips? Would HE be that confident or would that be saved for the very end when his curse is broke? The more I thought about it, the more I wondered if it was in character, though my shipper heart screams for the cheek kissing. It demands it and I’m having to beat it off with a stick!

It’d be amusing if Mr. Ree appears after the dinner disaster scene, the one where a belle refuses to eat with the beast. Maybe something similar happens here and Krupp storms off to his office. As he’s fussing and complaining about women, he hears his office chair squeak, then it slowly spins around with Mr. Ree sitting there, fingers tented and a judgmental look on his face.

“Go ahead and starve, huh? That’s how you’re going to handle it?”

Krupp could be in disbelieve, then chase around the chair to try and strangle the other man, but he can’t seem to lay a finger on him. His entire body locks up while the enchanter only stares at him. Unamused. “When are you going to learn violence doesn’t solve anything, especially your predicament now?”

They could go back and forth until Krupp demands to know why he’s there and Ree lays it out he’s come to help them escape. But Krupp flies into an even bigger fit, yelling about how this was his school and he had every right to punish them for intruding on his property.

“And then what? Are you going to make them stay here and rot with you? Are you really that selfish, Benjamin?”

“You should know the answer to that. If it wasn’t for-“

Mr. Ree starts to lose his temper, reminding Krupp that he’s there because of his OWN decisions. Because of his OWN actions. And had he made better choices, he wouldn’t be in this mess.

Eventually Ree comes to the decision to have the three stay, but he warns that if Krupp does anything to hurt them, he’ll do something far worse than turning Krupp into a beast.

Pfffft I remember that gag! It looks so darn painful I don’t know why Hollywood keeps promoting it. But that also put into my head that if Krupp totally bungled the landing and made a willie coyote imprint in the snow.

Harold: wow that was anticlimactic.

George: I’d give it a 3.5

Asdhfbsjsbdb! ‘CU’ wearing a red scarf and boots but everything else is the same. Edith is probably beside herself wondering why she keeps dreaming about half naked men.

Ah but it does sound super sweet, I swear. Maybe after their snowball fight they can sit on a bench under a snow covered weeping willow. It would be beautiful to have a light source softly shine through, too. Almost like a winter wonderland come to life… which makes me wonder whose in which persons dream? Because it would be something if Edith was being pulled into Krupp’s dream and he happened to have a bigger imagination than anyone gives him credit for.

I love the idea of them having a heart to heart by themselves. George and Harold are probably exploring the school, trying to dig up their own memories and solve the puzzle, leaving the adults alone to wander around and talk about more mature things.

To break the ice, Edith could suggest a game of “never have I ever” and start with, “never have I ever road a horse.”

Which leads into Krupp telling her about the family ranch and his less than loving mother. The longer they play, the more they start to see similarities in each other, such as their love for food, favorite movies, music taste.

Krupp might even be screaming in his head, ‘WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!???!’

Edith could end the game with, “never have I ever been kissed.”

Krupp does a double take, and I’m sure if he’d been drinking something a spit take too. He jokes that that can’t be right, given how sweet and pretty she is. “I bet you had fellas beating down your door day and night.”

She looks a bit unnerved, mumbling about how there’s only been one (tp salesman), which makes Krupp pause for a second, thinking that maybe she was going steady with this guy. He tries to shove the disappointment aside, but it’s almost palpable at this point.

Sensing this, Edith clarifies that she hasn’t been kissed by anyone and is determined it never goes to the pushy jerk back home. It’ll go to someone kind, who listens to her and doesn’t want to change her into something she isn’t. Someone that’ll love her dispite her flaws.

Krupp smiles softly, wishing her luck on finding that special someone.

They realize they’ve stopped walking and sort of laugh at themselves, then head further down the hall when they hear Harold and George grumbling about when dinners ready.

Alternatively, maybe the boys could use their backpacks as pillows if Krupp didn’t have the foresight to take them away from them (because he KNOWS what happens if these kids have pranking materials on hand). It’d be funny if he found one of their recent comics and was all ‘They STILL make this junk?!’ (But of course we know he won’t resist reading them). (Oh damn, if Krupp KNEW about the school’s basement area that only Ree knew about.. also, now that’s reminding me of a time I tried to figure out a Phantom of the Opera AU, except it’s more of a flat out parody).

I can see him being way to happy to really care he’s still a middle aged bald guy, so much so he’s running around hugging the daylights out of everyone in sight. And then,, when he sets eyes on Edith, some of those past insecurities come swimming back and he’s less open. He hunch’s up a bit, not sure what to say as she’s still taking it all in. He could even misinterpret her hesitancy as rejection, only to have her place her hands on his cheeks and look into his eyes, then whispering ,”it is you, it was you all this time.”

And then the smooching! The no-holding-back smooch of the century and the boys are covering their eyes because traumatic experience here!

I love the idea you have with the boys figuring out what happened and letting Krupp know they remember him. He’d probably be a bit withdrawn, since he knows what lead to the curse and their involvement, not to mention the pranks he had to endure leading up to that fearful day. He could snap about how they’re probably enjoying seeing him at his lowest after everything he’s put them through, only to be shocked when they tell him they never wanted anyone to get hurt due to their pranks. They certainly didn’t want him to lose everything in his life, and even though it would be so easy for Krupp to agree and pin all the blame on them, he pauses to reflect. Mr. Rees words come back, about how he’s in this predicament because of his own actions, and he lets Harold and George know that as an adult he should’ve handled things better.

Oh man, the ring idea is perfect and so in character with Krupp too! I love the idea that he’s forced to protect something he hates, but then again he should be used to that by now XD

It makes me wonder if in this au, had Mr. Ree not used the ring to curse Krupp if it would’ve been used to turn him into Captain Underpants?

I’m not sure what would be used for the wolves. Like you said, sentient toilets would work just as well, though the towns folks might be alarmed to see such things wandering around. I sort of figured the place would be a little further removed than it’s location in town and just have hooligans like Kippers gang running around. It’d be kind of funny if it was Kipper, because then Krupp could see what a little monster he was to everyone and bend him over his knee for a whooping (figuratively). It’d lead to a pretty climatic confrontation towards the end too when Kipper helps the townsfolk storm the school only to realize later he almost had a hand in killing his uncle.

If the dream sequences were set up for each person to recognize if they were in their own dream, I can see how that would be an amazing way to reveal so much about who they are without ever having to say anything to the other. Such as the dance practice you described… Edith could be out in the woods, at a girlscout camp from her childhood. They could be practicing in a giant gazebo overlooking the lake. That way there could be strings of lights dangling overhead and fireflies on the water.

The winter setting you described could be the hills Krupp used to sled down with his brother back when they were kids shirking farmhand duty. He’d know every inch of the place and be more than happy to show her the best spots.

For one of my favorite scenes, the dinner refusal, I can’t imagine Krupp would be trying to get any of them to eat with him. So what if he gives them what ever he grabs out of the pantry (canned baked beans) and forks and sort of shoves it into the room with them. George and Harold can be making fun of “beans beans the musical fruit” while Edith is seething.

She stomps up to the beast before he can shut/lock the door, shoving the can under his nose, demanding, “and what is this?”

“Dinner, obviously.”

“This isn’t even warm.”

“Your point?”

She then lays into him how he can’t just feed them cold food, or keep them locked up indefinitely, and doesn’t stop ranting until he loses his cool and tells her to starve then.

Trembling in rage, she takes her can and hurls it at his retreating back, “FINE!”

@rigamaroo I could see Krupp hugging the boys out of excitement (and acting VERY CU like in the process) before turning to Edith. ^_^ GAH SO CUTE! I love the mental images you give me with this cute stuff. And the funny thing is that I also realized that if the boys were going to be witnesses to that kiss, they’d cover their eyes and get the heck out of there.

Sorry this is so late, I’ve had nothing but work and school eating up all of my time. You know what they say, no rest for the wicked.

Gah! I was hoping I’d changed that typo before anyone saw it but it looks like I wasn’t fast enough. Bad phone and your horrible potty mouth!

It really is interesting that Mr. Ree is there to teach Krupp a lesson simply because he sees enough good in him he finds him redeemable. He gives him a fighting chance to learn from his mistakes and grow from them, which is actually a really good lesson for the boys as well. It shows what can happen to you in a figurative way if you allow the bitterness and resentment to overtake you. It also shows that despite it all, you can change for the better if you embrace the good, further demonstrating that point when George and Harold take it upon themselves to rally the kids to help save the “monster” rather than holding on to their hatred for him and leaving him to die.

Itd be amusing if Mr. Ree shows up at the very end to congratulate Krupp in finally becoming a better man (through it took him nearly dying to achieve that). “But don’t think I won’t keep an eye out for any trouble,” he remarks, no one really knows if that’s a threat or not as he sets his eyes on another person that could use a good lesson in kindness (aka tp salesman).

God, Harold and George would be the absolute worst wingmen in this story. In fact, they’d probably be the complete opposite and setting up pranks to help warde Krupp away from the group. Like supergluing his butt to a wheelie chair and laughing as he scoots angryily towards them, or maybe they set up some jacks around the door so he can’t sneak up on them while they’re asleep. Stepping on one barefoot would be just as painful as stepping on a LEGO.

Gosh, now that you mention that Princess and the Frog song I can’t get it out of my head. It would be nice to have a radio playing some jazzy music in the background while they dance, Edith giggling that it’s better than the greasy grimy gopher guts song she used to sing with the other girl scouts. ‘Cu’ could laugh as well, remembering having sang similar songs while camping with his dad and brother, then grow quiet, whispering that he missed him. It could imply that his father died a while ago, leading Edith to share of how she doesn’t have any family either.

She understands his pain all to well.

Ok, I gotta admit that cuddle idea has to stay in. It gave me warm fuzzies just thinking about them all snuggled into his side, one hand on Edith’s shoulder while the other arm has two sleepy boys pressed against him. “We can go inside if your cold, ya know.”

“No, this is good.”

Krupp could grumble about his leg starting to fall asleep, but when Edith begins petting his arm, he clamps his mouth shut and stays put. He settles himself against the snow fort and drags them all closer to keep warm. He goes from ‘this is uncomfortable’ to ‘I’ll die for these three’ in a heartbeat.

If only he knew how true that statement would be.

Ajdhajcjsjznc! I nearly died laughing remembering the Lampoon Christmas movie. Thank god they don’t go that fast or they might fly into someone else’s dream by accident. Though it would be a nice nod to the Beauty and the Beast Christmas movie as well if they landed in the snow and made snow angels. But when Krupp stands from his, he looks down at the imprint and it’s very reminiscent of his beast form, as if that part of him follows him even in the dream world too.Edith could look at it curiously, then back at him, who keeps staring down at it in a knowing way. She wouldn’t have anything to say, but the thought that something is amiss hits her hard.

Goodness though, krupps apology is going to kill so many people! I mean, that would be such a tragically beautiful place to put it, since he could’ve been struggling with the apology for a while now (mostly being ashamed and not knowing how to phrase it for the boys until now). So to have the three hovering over his body as he slips away, muttering that he should’ve treated them better and been more understanding and how he wishes he had more time to be there for them and see who they grow up to be…. ah crap, here comes the tears!

Oh! And I just thought… Ree said he had to fall in love and be loved in return for the curse to be broken. it just so happens he not only fell for Edith, but he does grow fond of the two troublemakers, and in turn those three people do love him in their own way too, so he has not one but three people who end up breaking that curse.

“You’re truly a blessed man to have so many people love you, Benjamin. I wonder, given enough time, how many more you’ll share that love with.”

Yeah I’ve been busy too. I actually work at a school and... let’s just say that there’s moments where I actually sympathize with Krupp (it doesn’t help that it’s my first year with this specific job). I work at a high school... and I just have days where I miss working with the younger kids. One of my greatest joys when I had my previous job was showing the little ones that I’m an artist and there’s been a handful of kids who were happy when I revealed that I like to draw Captain Underpants among things. (None of the drawings i showed them are any of my fan art stuff that I’ve posted, but when they saw my CU drawings, they were always happy. One girl even gave me a drawing of CU that she made on that very day when I was almost done at that school and I still have that, along with other drawings some kids have given to me. ^_^)

….Nowadays, escaping to tumblr and doing fan content helps me get away from the stress and other things.

Avatar

I just realized that, for all the ideas @rigamaroo and I shared for the CU Beauty and the Beast AU, we never exactly addressed an issue that was a bit of a head scratcher from the BatB movie, which is ‘how the hell do you transport a barely moving man-cursed-into-a-monster back to the castle on the horse?’  Now it’s ‘well how the hell would Edith, George, and Harold haul Krupp back to the school if he also fainted?’

Now I’m having the hilarious mental image of a red wagon being conveniently nearby, and it’s basically a recreation of when the boys were trying to haul a sleeping grown man (whose most likely over 200 pounds) in that small wagon to his house like in the film. Yet somehow, this dinky child sized wagon can carry an estimated 300 or more pound man-cursed-into-a-monster all the way back to the school, and somehow a grown woman and two fourth graders can easily pull this thing the whole time. And no one knows how the heck this is possible.

Each ‘there’s no way this could work’ gets countered with a ‘three minutes later’ (a la Spongebob) and then it ACTUALLY works.

I love it when CU logic works in my favor.

Because otherwise there’d have to be a truck and someone would need to know how to do that wire thingie to get it to go.

It's amusing how nearly close we were to each other's Beast!Krupp designs, except you added a bit more details to him. (Does he have goat feet, or are my eyes deceiving me?) Especially a few that make a nod to the original Disney version. I can't get over how dang SCRAWNY his arms are in comparison to the rest of him, though I admit that he had that look in the book/film/series to begin with.

Avatar

Yeppers, he has goat feet to give him more of an evil look. Something that, on first glance, the boys would think was a demon come to life. But once he gets cleaned up, he probably looks more like a lovable fuzz ball than anything.

And yeah, I wanted to keep his arms scrawny like how his book design is. I debated on giving him spines like a porcupine but figured he has a hard enough life, why make him incapable of sitting in chairs too?

Ah, good thing none of my drawings have really shown his legs then.

I usually give him huge arms because ‘huge guy equals proportions that look equally huge’ and I like a big guy who looks super cuddly and gives good hugs, though the scrawny arms look DO make him look even more like a walking muffin.

I take it someone is a huge fan of ‘Hans the hedgehog?’ I like that story too and I’ve seen that episode from ‘The Storyteller’ series.

But yeah, giving him spines is overkill. The bristled fur when he’s mad is good enough for a substitute.

Also, they probably have to sleep on toilet seat covers to avoid germs.... and use TP for pillows... oh, actually, that sounds like something that could be in the show!

I’d imagine the TP salesman wants to find reasons to make himself look good because... you know... he got made fun of as a kid.

No wonder she hasn’t got a guy.”... damnit that rhymed).
