I often think about how Rei said the marriage was her choice and she had other options and how Touya said that grandma was poor and how Shouto said Enji bought himself a wife or something I don't remember

I frankly feel like it all leads to the point that there probably was some struggle for her parents (either real or imaginary) and that Rei might've been looking for ways to solve it. Now. It is very noble of her to try to help her family, but as I am, I can't think of her parents as loving and worthy of such dedication. Like, we saw Rei call her. Her mom KNEW how her daughter's marriage was turning out and did nothing? Were they living off Enji's paycheck or what???? How was Rei in the mental hospital all that time? A good parent would come RUNNING and probably wouldn't agree to any money if they meant her daughter had to marry a stranger in the first place

Either way. What would make Rei want to help her parents so much that she agreed to a quirk marriage? Were the circumstances that dire? I have trouble believing that (they don't look like they living below poverty line but that is mostly my speculation). I feel like perhaps it is something about the way she was raised that made her feel like she (a very young person at the time, I doubt she was older than 24) had to resolve her parents' financial problems

Maybe she was raised in absolute respect towards her elders. Maybe she felt unneeded, and she had the urge to make use of herself. Maybe her mother was constantly complaining to her about adult problems until Rei felt like it was her responsibility to resolve them. Maybe all of that at once or maybe something else completely

I've been thinking about Rei's family throwing a little celebration after their engagement/marriage. At some point, everyone went to sleep except Rei's Dad and Enji. They drank and drank some more and talked about politics and marriage and some other shit. Eventually, Rei went looking for her husband, scared her dad might've made him too drank, only to find out that yes, they certainly drank too much cause why is Enji smoking outside and CRYING???

"Is everything ok?" She asked, full of guilt (god why she left the two of them alone)

"Oh, I just miss my Dad"

And then he just proceeded to talk about him unprompted. Rei just stood there, confused... At some point, she wondered how she isn't cold outside in the middle of the night without a coat and lightly touched his hand... and it was cold as hell... She had to always keep in mind other people aren't as ok with low temperatures as she is...

"You are freezing! Let's go inside," concerned, she tugged on his sleeve

"Oh, are you going to warm me up, Rei-chan~"

That was horrible.

At this point I feel like its Hori trying to say Rei stayed with Enji without having to explain even though its illogical why his wheelchair is a pram...

I feel like Horikoshi either didn't know what to do with Rei or, for some reason, couldn't do what he wanted. They needed, like, at least one decent conversation inserted somewhere

Have you seen Enji? Can you believe this is a man who just lets his wife push his wheelchair that obviously has some electric power and probably drives by itself? Does he look like someone who accepts help that easily? C'mon, bffr

I am not asking for much. I just want to have a look inside her head for longer than a few panels. She barely has opportunities to speak for herself in the story. I wonder why. Is it that Horikoshi didn't prepare anything for her? Or did his editors say no one cared about her? Or was he lacking time?

Tbh, with such a huge cast of characters, it's hard to do all of them justice, so you end up hinting at what happened and making it short (way too short), just enough to make readers curious but not satisfied

Natsuo showed his mom a photo of his gf. Rei got a bit racist. Silence ensued.

I swear I wrote a post about this subject once!! But I can't find shit on tumblr

I do think there is a chance Rei has been raised in a racist household, and some things stuck to her

I know we'll probably never get the but I'm still waiting on the Himuras and Geten and the mystery woman in the Philippines praying for the Todorokis. Also Rei "Todorokis may now be shady but Himuras were awful"

I'd want to hear more about Rei and her family in general. We got crumbs, really. Idk if Hori doesn't have any ideas for her or what. She is so interesting to me but I get that most fans don't really care

Five chapters just didn't feel like enough time to close all the plots. I guess I'll settle for any additional info... At least give us Rei's profile page

I guess I'll just have to imagine it all myself

If Enji's mother died in childbirth it might've been because he was an unusually large baby... Idk if there's a correlation but both he and Natsuo appear to always be bigger than an average person their age. This makes me wonder if he was anxious when Rei was pregnant with Natsu and wanted her to have a C-section because of the risks

It's projection talking in me but I like to think sometimes that Rei married Enji not because her family had financial troubles and she wanted to support them but primarily because she wanted them to feel proud of her so she did exactly what they asked her to do. She was ready to do anything to feel their love

I have been thinking about Rei's life after her discharge... Enji built a home for her and their children but if you think about it she is a mentally ill person who has been a burden to her children for almost a decade (since her husband wasn't allowed to visit and her parents... are never mentioned). Would she really want to live with her kids and make them continue to take care of her? Cause she would need care. The recovery is never that linear and she'll have many bad days and many good days...

I have this wish that Fuyumi would be "set free" from the household responsibilities and taking care of her parents and siblings. She deserves to built her own life. I think she sacrificed too much

Basically, I want both Rei and Enji to put their kids first. At the same time, I doubt Rei's psyche would be able to support someone more and longer than she already did. I have this feeling that she wouldn't want to continue living with her children because no matter how much they love her, it's painful to dedicate so much time to your parents when they aren't even old yet

So that would leave Rei with three options: living with her parents (I doubt she'd want that; perhaps they live too far from her kids that she'd still want to visit or and maybe sh should be mad because they never helped her), living alone (that is not the best idea for anyone with mental illness though maybe it depends + she can hire a maid) or moving back with Enji (Natsuo and Shouto would never allow that)

My crazy psycho robo mind of course wants her to live with Enji. Like c'mon. He never home anyways. Can you imagine!!?!?!?! Yes this whole post was a set up for my new enjirei dream!!!!! hahahahah I LOVE THEM KISS KISS FALL IN LOVE

People talking about how rei is a pure cinnamon roll precious innocent good mom while also saying she was bought and was a breeding machine, completely reducing her character to a hapless victim, devauleing and dehumanizing her, in the same sentence. seriously their backstory disproving all this came out years ago but noooo we still gotta go with “imprisonment” “banishment” to mental hospital and being a mail order bride like shouto describes it. Just like you said, I see it waaaay too often and it’s tiresome *face palms into oblivion*. one more thing is apparently enjo was beating her and all his kids for 25 years daily and if you disagree you’re ignoring the most obvious signs reeeee drives me nuts

People deadass looked at her and said what if we took all interesting parts of her out? What if we made her the most boring character on earth? What if we ignored the complexity of the situation because we hate Enji and don't care about the rest of it

And honestly? Even if someone is a mail-order bride that doesn't give you any permission to say their husband "bought" them. Women are not things even if they marry for money. Some cultures still have a dowry and that doesn't mean they "sell" their children. This attitude is disgusting. And that is honestly one of the situations where the way you talk about fictional characters makes me curious about what you think about real-life women in situations like that. Do you also strip them of any agency? Do you see them as people making their own choices or do you project all your fantasies of "what's it like" into them so you can feel like a knight in shining armor defending them?

It really annoys me how casually people say that Endeavor purchased/bought Rei like um she is a person and there was no indication he holds her captive against her will (and no, the mental hospital is not a prison. She left the moment she wanted to) and there are DIRECT WORDS saying she agreed to the marriage of her own volition. Like, can we stop? This is not what happened and pretty gross. Ok
