When the day had started just right, you immediately know what you were about to busy yourself with. Considering there wasn’t much happening in the clan and nothing you could help Norm and Max with, you hopped into your link shack, opting not to go out with an annoying exopack outside.

Besides, you’d rather be in your avatar body anyway for what you were about to do.

Waking up in your avatar body, you took the necessary precautions, moving around, stretching your muscles and checking your reflexes. Once you deemed it was all good, you quickly made you way onto a little chest you had kept in your tent.

Crouching down, you had picked up a few books in your hand. That’s right, you were going to spend the day reading. Smiling as you imagined yourself leaned against the tree, book in hand, and the sun providing the much-needed light to read, you were determined to make that a reality.

Standing up, you carried the books in one hand, quickly leaving the tent and running away to find a spot.

After finding the perfect tree, not too far from home, you sigh in relief, sitting down and leaning your back against it, placing the rest of the books beside you stacked neatly as you picked the one you were reading before.

Opening the book, you were met with the last page you had remembered reading, the memory feeling like yesterday, but in reality was a few weeks ago. Smiling to yourself, your eyes began scanning the words, taking it all in and making a little bubble of your imagination.

When you were already halfway through and deep in thought as you read, your reflexes had calmed down to a point where you didn’t hear something approaching, rather someone.

To everyone else, Neteyam was nothing but a smart boy, always quick upon his feet. Ready for anything.

But nothing could prepare him for this as the words slip past your mouth.

He was dumbfounded. His brain froze as he stared at you.

While you felt immediate regret at what you said, hands stretching and gesturing all over as if it would reverse everything that led up to this conversation.

“No- I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to- I-“ You stumble upon your words, face growing hotter by the minute.

“What was it again?” Neteyam asked. You shake your head, not wanting to repeat it anymore.

Neteyam takes both your wrists and holds them down, staring at you. “Tell me.”

“My Eywa- Teyam you know I trust you the most and I don’t want to repeat myself- all I just said was I want to experience being kissed and I just thought it would be a great idea to ask you for it but- forget it!”

Oh no- no he would not forget. In fact, he was sure his heart was doing a thousand flips right about now. He keeps his cool even though he feels like he’s about to burst at any second now.

Who wouldn’t when your childhood best friend, or in Neteyam’s case, childhood best friend-turned crush-for-almost-a-decade had asked you if you’d like to be their first kiss? Even if it was simply just to try it out?

Neteyam smirks, tilting his head at you.

“Maybe you just want to kiss me, is that it (Y/N)?” He notes the way your cheeks darkened shaking your head as you fought against your feelings.

"This is my favourite day ever."

"You always say that." You scoff playfully, sitting criss-cross on one of the huge branches of Home Tree, overlooking the forest. Neteyam's slim fingers make quick work of the matching arm band he was giving you. He liked giving you gifts, and it feels like he could exolode whenever he sees you wearing them proudly, saying that he gave it to you.

Neteyam inserts the beads and quite the colorful feather together, the beads matching the ones in his braids, the feather being the same colour as his.

"Then let me rephrase; this is my favourite time of day ever. When I get to hang out with you." He spoke, voice deep as his gaze remains on his work, but you could see the smile on his face.

Tucking some of his stray braids away so you could see him clearly, you never miss how his actions falter, before returning to their normal speed.

"You give me too much, 'Teyam." You say, tilting your head and watching him.

"It is because you deserve it, my love...and it feels great hearing you brag about me." The last sentence makes you laugh, shaking your head.

"Pleasure' s all mine, you don't know how much I appreciate you, 'Teyam."

Your words make him turn a shade darker, still not meeting your eyes.

Getting restless of not seeing your lover's eyes, you sigh and scoot much closer to him, placing your hands on his, making him pause and finally lift his head up to look at you confused.

You only grinned at him, hands transferring to cup his cheeks and press your forehead to his. He smiles widely at the affection.

"Why did you stop me? I was almost done."

"Hush, can't I shower my mate with love and affection for a moment? You're really irresistible y'know."

Neteyam sports a look of smugness, about to speak up with a smirk tugging on the corner of his lips.

However, none came out as you had already shut him up with your mouth on his.

Yes. However, you didn’t say it out loud.

The Sully’s had been nothing but caring for you, treating you as their own when Neteyam found you all by yourself in the woods in what you had estimated a decade ago.

You were orphaned as your father was killed in a mission, soon, your mother had fallen ill, making you work hard all that you can to save her, yet she had succumbed to her illness.

Neteyam had found you crying in the woods that decade ago. He quickly offered his aid and soon enough the two of you were inseparable.

And that friendship soon bloomed into a relationship once Neteyam had grabbed the courage to finally confessed to you on how he felt. He had then introduced you to his family, immediately liking you and soon enough you found yourself living with them, with your love, Neteyam, and his family. Neytiri and Jake had been understanding once you had opened up to them one night regarding your life.

They had promised that you will never be left out, not in this family. Like you had earned the privilege to say “Sully’s stick together”, considering Neteyam and you were about to become mates a few years from now, when you are both ready. They had already considered you as a Sully.

But going back to the topic at hand, it was still nothing compared to your real family.

And oh, how much you missed them.

"What are you saying?" Neteyam said as you sat across from him.

You sigh dreamily to tease him further, propping your chin on your fist. "I just think that your dad is cute...I mean look at him! And with the way he's looking now-" You smile, seeing Neteyam with a sour face in your peripheral vision as you looked at his dad standing, talking with his friend Norm.

"You- you find my dad 'cute'?" Neteyam said almost in disbelief.

"Yeah, I do." You said. In all honesty, you just found his dad cute, attractive, but nothing more. But once you learned that you fawning over Neteyam's dad gauged these reactions from him, and you being in a teasing mood, decided to spur him further.

"I can't believe you." Neteyam huffs, wanting you to look at him, instead, you were looking at his dad.

As if on cue, Jake turned and spots you looking at him, he sees you with his son and he sends a small smile your way before Norm had his attention again.

"My Eywa he smiled at me!" You squealed, acting like you were about to fall over as you swooned.

Neteyam looks between you and his dad. He pouted. "You know, his son is more good-looking." He said, rolling his eyes.

"Oh! I remember, Lo'ak looks really good in those braids of his." You smirked, finally looking at Neteyam.

Neteyam's mouth formed into an 'o' as he shakes his head once more.

"No, not him, the other one!"

"Hm?" You tilt your head at him. You chuckle, seeing your mate being grumpy and jealous all of a sudden. Neteyam scrunches his nose at you, before he was tugging you towards him, making you stumble on his lap as your arms went and wrapped around him.

"I said, I am more good-looking than any of them. Why choose me?" Neteyam whispered to you as you pulled away from him.

You laugh, grabbing both his hands and pressing kisses to his knuckles. The action made Neteyam's demeanor break as he returned to his old self, eyes looking at your lips before darting at your eyes, warmth spreading his cheeks.

"You big baby, of course they're nothing compared to you, my fine warrior." You say, squeezing his hands.

Your words filling his ears sends his tail perking up, swishing behind him.

"But you're dad is really cute I'm not going to lie-"

Neteyam breathes out with a laugh as he tries to follow your steps, it wasn’t helping that you were literally tugging on his arm to go faster.

The sun had started to set, colouring the sky in a somewhat purple hue as the waves crashed against the surface.

You turned around to face Neteyam and you smiled, yet did not answer him.

Only then you opened your mouth when you found the perfect spot, just in time before dark.

“I’ve been wanting to spend time with you.”

You utter, slowly stepping back into the sea, pulling Neteyam with you. Neteyam raised a brow, tilting his head.

“You’ve been gone for too long.” Was all you said.

“I’m here now.” He confirmed, reeling in the water with you as he takes your arms and wraps it around his neck.

Keeping up with the Metkayina was hard.

The Olo’eyktan was right, your bodies weren’t suited for the water, but that changed when Tsireya taught you the ways of their clan.

You appreciate how she took her time with you all even if it almost took days learning lesson to lesson.

But the clan also had different duties for you and Kiri, so you were often left out when they were out there learning. That also meant having less time spent with Neteyam.

Speaking of Neteyam, he was your best friend even when you were little. Neteyam was the one to introduce you to his parents, Jake and Neytiri also treating you like their own as your parents from the Omaticaya had met their fate with the Sky people.

You spent half of your life growing with him. You watched him bloom to a shy, cheeky little boy to a very fine, mighty warrior.

It didn’t also help as he grew, that your feelings for him slowly showed themselves. You often thought about how it would be like being the Tsahik to his Olo’eyktan.

That often leaves you a blushing mess, and him unfortunately catching you a few times, teasing you about your possible crush.

You just tried your best not to be obvious, but at times you just wanted to scream that it was him, it was him you were crushing on all along.

But you still didn’t. Even up until now when you joined them to venture to the Metkayina to seek safe haven.

And now you were rarely seeing him, you even rarely got to talk to him!

You honestly missed his presence. You would often spot him wearing a scowl on his face when he was learning to swim when you were delivering things to the Tsahik.

This went on for weeks now that you and Kiri were now learning your lessons in a separate time of day, without Lo’ak, Neteyam, and Tuk.  

Even if you did share a Marui pod with the whole family, you still didn’t had the chance to hang out with him.

It would either be quick glances at one another since Neteyam always wakes up early before you, and when at night, he would be fast asleep earlier than you could be.

It sucked. You missed him.

But one day, you finally had the chance to approach him.

You carefully watched from the side-lines, watching how Lo’ak, Neteyam, and Tuk time how long they could stay underwater for, and that they were racing to a certain distance.

You leaned against the tree. Your focus only on Neteyam. He seemed to be struggling as he gave up midway, brow muscles furrowed as he screamed in frustration, his fist smacking the water as Lo’ak and Tuk laughed at him, having won the race.

You heard Tsireya say something to Neteyam that had him nodding, before he went up to the shore, his hair dripping droplets of water every time he stepped.

You saw this as an opportunity again, you looked down to focus on what you wanted to say, but when you looked to where he was, he was gone.
