The sun is hot today. There are clouds in the sky but their cover is light, fickle, fleeting. The shadows are cool, though. Bees fly in senseless patterns in and out of the fields filling the air with their joyous buzzing. The soft, damp soil underfoot in subtle contrast with the leaves, which, rough and velvety, snag at the threads of my sweater as I walk by. The flowers are as tall as I am (or I am as short as they are) and so we stare each other in the face as I pass by, seeing who will be the first to crack a smile (I’m almost always the first to break).
