what lack of Steel Ball Run anime does to a mfer
gintoki really is one of my favorite characters of all time. he seems at first glance to be a ridiculous and whimsical person until we slowly uncover the horrors he endured in his past. with what he’s been through he has every right to hate the world and everyone in it. he could easily have taken the same path as takasugi and destroyed everything. but his experiences didn’t turn him into a beast, he remained kind. too kind for his own good sometimes. most of the ridiculous situations he ends up in happen because he just can’t turn his back on someone who needs his help. he’s simultaneously the funniest and most melancholic person and these two aspects of his character being interwoven to create the hilarious, exciting, intense, joyful, tragic narrative we see is the true genius of gintama

okay hear me out on this…. i think joseph named shizuka after caesar. in japanese his name is pronounced シーザー (shi—za—) which sounds pretty similar to shizuka. now it’s clear araki chose this name because the character for shizuka “静” can also be read as “jo”, basically it’s another “higashikata” situation, but there are tons of kanji that can be read the same way so i think araki chose this name in particular for a reason. shiza, shizuka, idk it’s making some sense to me
