Hi, I'm toki (she/her)!

I've been studying Japanese for 10+ years (omg) and I've had this Japanese langblr since 2019. I learned Japanese formally starting in high school and although I've never taken the JLPT, I consider myself lower advanced level (N3/N2?) ~~except when I'm not~~.

My Japanese goals:

Hi, my name is toki! My langblr is dedicated to Japanese.

About Me

I am American and my native language is English, my second language is Japanese, and I dabble in Spanish and French occasionally. I’ve been out of school for a few years (I’m a tumblr elder) but I still love learning. Although I minored in Japanese and studied abroad in Japan during my university days, my Bachelor’s and Master’s are in science and I am now working a full time job not related to languages. It’s been over 10 years since I first started studying Japanese and my love of the language keeps me interested in continuing on in my quest to become fluent.

My Family

I took a 3-month break from May-July of 2020 to welcome a baby (it’s a boy!), but I have since returned to posting and I thought a re-introduction was in order - even if I’m a little late to this challenge. My husband is Japanese and we speak exclusively in Japanese, and plan to raise our son to be bilingual. I also have 3 cats who are fluent in Japanese and Nyango (that’s cat language - which I have yet to master).

My Interests

Recently my interests have been mainly focused on my baby and getting enough sleep, but in my spare time I like to read and watch dramas. I also enjoy very amateur photography - although since I haven’t left my house in over 5 months except to go to the doctor, I haven’t been taking many photos recently (except of my son and cats lol).

Why Do I Langblr?

I started my langblr as a way to practice Japanese everyday, to connect with others who enjoy the Japanese language, and as a creative outlet that wouldn’t take up a lot of time (full time job, you know). I have continued my langblr because the community is fun and I have found some interesting people who langblr (or don’t langblr) too. I learned Japanese through continuous use, and even if I can only dedicate 5 minutes here and there to post a vocabulary word I can still keep practicing Japanese and improving my fluency and knowledge of the language and culture.

I’m shy about approaching others, but quite friendly. Feel free to send me asks about Japanese or about milk tea or the funny thing you saw the other day!

初めまして、トキドキです。このブログ始まったばかりなのに、自己紹介しようと思います。学生じゃないけど（社会人です！）、日本語を勉強してます。勉強してる仲間と連絡したり、応援したりしたいと思います。質問も頑張って答えておきます！英語の質問でもOKです。

Hi, I’m tokidoki! I’ve just started this langblr/studyblr, but I want to introduce myself. I’m not a student (I’ve graduated and am working) but I’m still studying Japanese. I wanted to make a langblr to connect with fellow students of Japanese, and to support each other. I'll do my best to answer any questions too!

“tokidoki” means “sometimes” (blog title: sometimes Tokyo)
