What if in the MCU some journalist from the 40s tried to make fun of Bucky Barnes in a newspaper or something and drew him wearing that weird outfit and for some reason that's what people think he wore in the 40s now. To this day Bucky finds Bucky Bears and all kind of Bucky Barnes merchandising of him dressed in that weird outfit in stores.
