Something interesting about the 2024 election results.

We all know that men went harder for Trump than women and carried him into office. You knew that in your gut before the numbers came out and the numbers only confirmed it.

But something I find interesting about these results is that it's not the Boomers. Boomers went for Trump just slightly more than millennials did.

What really carried him was Gen X, who went in so hard on Trump that they're the only age bracket where he won the women too. Trump won over more Gen X women than Gen Z men. That's very interesting to me.

I kinda just... assumed it was Boomers voting for their guy. What is it, I wonder, that makes Trump so attractive to Gen X specifically?

Incidentally these results also show us that men are more likely to throw their votes away on a third-party bid than women are, and that millennials specifically are more likely to do so than any generation before or after them. That's. Uh. That's on us. ._.

  • I thought I remembered this, and was not looking forward to it. This is, as I recall, the beginning of the marginalization of Akane as a fighter. We’ve spent two chapters hyping up the confrontation between Akane and Kodachi, but a sudden freak accident means Ranma’s going to fight Kodachi instead.

I remember another new Let's watch tumblr pointing that out too and yeah, its completely correct.

Its possible some shonen sexism might be involved, but than again, there's Cologne being super powerful and the most powerful characters in her prior manga, Urusei Yatsura, being women and a very effeminate male crossdresser?

So it might be the shonen main character does everything syndrome, Ranma can turn into a girl so he handles all of Akane's battles for her?

There are also some interesting interviews with Takahashi that might be relevant.

In one discussing Akane, Takahashi said she didn't want to give her too many flashy special moves as she wanted Akane to be an "average, everyday girl".

And when discussing the yet to be introduced in the new anime, Ukyo, the interviewer mentioned Ukyo saying she'd take care of Ranma if he remained weak for the rest of his life.

Takahashi brought up Ukyo's fantasy of her taking care of her weak husband Ranma and him playing with their kids, saying that's the sort of thing that ruins a man's macho pride and said Ranma would definitely walk out of that marriage.

I guess that checks out with a later story where Ranma is super upset when Akane gets stronger than him?

Weird decision to make Akane a martial artist who has to punch out the entire male half of the student body every morning if she wanted her to be an ordinary everywoman.

But that's, like, a dream.

Being able to punch out the sexual harassers all at once at the beginning of school and no one gets mad and understands that yeah, that's a thing that happens? Like, yes, the harassment shouldn't happen in the first place, but even if someone tried to stop it, that doesn't make it stop. It just flies further under the radar and keeps happening.

What's happening to Akane is blatant, and she gets to punch everyone. Every day. She gets to hate men, and it's understood that she has a very good reason to hate men because the men in her life kind of suck.

There's something comforting about these men are treating Akane like shit, but she gets to beat them up while also acknowledging that the one guy who doesn't treat her like shit (the doctor) she still likes. That Akane can like men if they're not - gestures-.

...I'm rambling.

tl;dr - Akane punching out her harassers every morning doesn't, I think, exclude her from being an ordinary everywoman. It just takes her ordinary everywoman experiences and throws them into a daily martial art shenanigan that can be comedic instead of. what it is.

Re: that "Fight Me Bruh" list. I won't post any major spoilers but there is a certain scene from Adventure 02 that just might make you feel like you greatly underestimated one of the characters from Adventure. 😁

Greetings, Mr. Drake. I am your newest member of your rogues gallery: the Angry Zipper-Man. FEAR ME.

Your power may be great, Angry Zipper-Man, but it is no match for cautious straightening of the pieces and careful movement! The forces of order win again!

I mean the forces of order suck too but in a pinch, we use whatever we've got.

Something i noticed recently was that Apocalymon resembles Etemon after he fused with the dark network, Etemon was also the only other enemy to directly devolve the chosen children's Digimon, with these facts in mind I propose the idea that Apocalymon is an Etemon fan.

:P

In seriousness, this is something I've been musing on. The way it was explained, Apocalymon's existence is steadily breaking down the fabric of reality. So long as they're on this side of the Wall of Fire, distortions in reality occur and the very nature of the Digital World gradually falls apart.

Apocalymon is warping reality, and all the big bad evil guys discovered those distortions in reality and drew on them for power. With no indication that they even knew Apocalymon was a thing that exists.

So the question that's been bothering me since Gennai first mentioned "distortions" way back on File Island is: What are these distortions? How is Apocalymon's reality-breaking power manifested in the Digital World, and in what way are the villains drawing on it? Like, what do the villains actually do with the distortions?

So I've been thinking about this.

Devimon: For Devimon, the thing that stands out the most is his Black Gears. The gears are physical objects that seem to channel Devimon's Death Claw attack, which bends the minds of its victims to serve him.

But they do a lot more than that. We see, both with Leomon and Devimon himself, that Black Gears can pile on each other to sizeshift a recipient into a colossal and ultra-powerful monster. This seems utterly divorced from Devimon's own power.

But they also affect the world around him. The Black Gears alter the very landscape of File Island. By filling the island with gears, Devimon is able to control the shape of the island itself. He breaks it into chunks and sends those chunks out across the ocean like invading warships.

But he isn't physically moving the landmass. He's rewriting reality. Once the Gears in a chunk are destroyed, that chunk shoots right back to Infinity Mountain and clicks back into place where it's supposed to be. Without the constant influence of a Black Gear moving it, the island reverts to its natural state, which is to be together as one large island.

This only makes sense through Apocalymon's distortion. The Black Gears make the physical nature of what File Island is malleable through the same power that is slowly breaking down the fabric of reality. It's what the Dark Masters do to create Spiral Mountain but on a smaller scale.

Etemon: Etemon's kind of an odd-man out. He isn't part of the Devimon -> Vamdemon -> Piemon evolution tree and, in fact, isn't even from the same V-Pet. But he is one of the big bad evil guys and his Dark Network certainly has some... questionable physics, let's say.

The cables of his network can move on their own and also plug directly into Digimon? That's weird. It's also powered by a writhing mass of pure darkness that is never explained and annihilates everything that touches it. Which. Sounds. Awfully familiar.

He's also, as noted, the only Digimon in the series other than Apocalymon with the power to forcibly regress Partner evolutions. He can just... nope the holy light right out of Partner Digimon through his music.

Seems like an Apocalymon Power thing to me.

Vamdemon: VenomVamdemon is the obvious one. He's kind of a Mini-Apocalymon. His existence in Odaiba was tearing down the fabric of both worlds and threatened to merge them into a single reality.

Given what a big nerd he was, if anyone consciously knew of Apocalymon's existence, it was probably this guy?

He also casts a magic spell at one point to open the gate between the two worlds. Which is. Like. Okay, man. Why is there a magic spell that can do that? Why didn't Gennai teach us the magic spell? Or cast it himself? Why did we have to futz around with the cards if there's a lifehack that will just do it for us?

Brute-forcing a door between worlds to open using magic forces never explained that no one has access to? Seems Apocalymon-ish to me.

Dark Masters: For the Dark Masters, Spiral Mountain is the obvious distortion. Once the fabric of reality got weak enough, the Dark Masters were able to give it a good tug and tear it into strips, then weave their own cloth from those strips.

I also think Piemon's vanishing cloth might utilize a reality distortion. That seems way too OP to be a natural ability of his species.

Pinocchimon's weird toys that can remote-manipulate or even teleport the Chosen Children as well as reconfiguring the shape of the forest seem distortion-ish to me too.

You think the other members of the cast that got de-aged in Daima will do anything, or they're just 'window dressing'?

Based on the credits, I expect Piccolo, Vegeta, and Bulma to get some focus. Don't know if they'll meet up with Team Goku or go have their own adventures, but I'm sure we'll see them enter Daimakai at some point.

I'm not holding my breath for anyone else.

  • Though it’s ironic that Kuno thinks Ranma won’t just juggle Kodachi and Akane when… y'know… that’s what Kuno wants to do with Akane and the Pig-Tailed Girl.

Kuno probably thinks his little sis is too tough for Ranma to engage in womanizing with, even Kuno kinda fears her at time, so I've no doubt he thinks she'd keep Ranma on a short leash.

  • It’s a world of NPCs and Kodachi is playing single-player.

I feel both Kuno siblings imagine they're the protagonist of their own world and everyone else is a supporting character. Kuno seems to think he's the hero of a romance novel with two tsundere's competing for him and Ranma is his jealous rival trying to cockblock him.

Incidentally this storyline is the introduction of the now famous Mallet the fandom often tends to associate with Akane Tendo, but is really used by everyone in this comedy series. PS: I was going to talk about Akane's treatment as a martial artist, but I'll make that another ask.

Oh, they definitely both think that way. Wealth does that shit to people.

I remember someone speculated Ryoga knew about rhythmic gymnastics because of his iron cloth and belt attacks? Mind you this is a fan explanation.

The alternative is also possible. Rather than "Ryoga studied rhythmic gymnastics so he could create his iron cloth weapons," Ryoga might use the iron cloth weapons because he's trained in rhythmic gymnastics.

Or they could be unrelated.

Either way, in lieu of an official explanation, I'm just gonna assume that Ryoga's a talented gymnast. It's just. A thing he does.

Everybody's gotta have hobbies.

FWIW, Our War Game is only 40 minutes long, so it pretty much counts as a 2 episode interquel between Adventure and 02. Diablomon Strikes Back, its sequel and the original capstone of the Adventure continuity, is also short, only 29 minutes long; functionally an extra episode for 02. Hurricane Touchdown is the one that is long. 70 minutes in 2 parts, trippy as fuck, and really feels like the DBZ nonserial movies. And, like the first Tamers movie, is supposedly canon but cannot fit in the show's timeline.

Right, Hurricane Touchdown is going to be awkward to fit in. I'll probably do that one broken into parts too, slotted in based on release date.

Did you ever fight the DRV3 cast? I don’t see it under the tag so I’m assuming not

No, I never finished the V3 revisit so I didn't get to do a silly Fight Me Bruh bit for it.

I should probably do one.

Back to the topic of "Shonen Jump and women", Jujutsu Kaisen is a mixed bag. The writing for the majority of the women is generally very highly regarded, but there's some who feel it doesn't do it's female characters enough Justice. One of the characters in particular has character arc centered around dealing with societal misogyny (and ableism). Said arc also involves a moment where she goes sicko mode and merks a bunch of misogynists with the full backing of the narrative

I haven't even heard of that one. <.<

To everyone who's absolutely livid about this election and even more livid about the various pundits and even Democratic politicians claiming that Kamala "palling around with Liz Cheney and wanting Republicans in her cabinet" Harris was "too far left":

Be mad. Stay mad. I need all-a-y'all to show up ready to rock when 2026 Congressional primary seasons begin. Maybe even run yourself.

If establishment Democrats take away from this that they lost because they weren't far enough to the Right, they are only going to alienate Democratic voters further. As Republicans turn into Trumpists, we cannot allow our side to shift so far right that the Dems outright become Republicans.

Democratic voters will not vote for Honorary Republicans.

Democrats who learn the wrong lessons from this and move right? They need to be destroyed. The primary election is where you have the power to do that. If they keep coming out and saying things like "I'm against trans people too!" and "We need to fix our border crisis!" and "Kamala lost because she was woke!" then their ability to court the votes of the Left will necessarily wane.

But they can be replaced.

If you weren't there for the rise of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, you need to understand that she was running for the district of Joseph Crowley. Crowley was the guy. He was so important to the party that he was being groomed to replace Nancy Pelosi as leader of the House. This man was so untouchable, he didn't even bother to show up to the debates.

AOC destroyed him in the primary and then swept the general. He was so powerful that he was supposed to lead a key faction of the party and instead he was dragged kicking and screaming out of office by a progressive liberal, because voters liked her better. He's gone. He sells weed now.

And if they learn the right lessons and move left? Great. Still show up to the primaries ready to rock with even more leftist ideas anyway. If you win, great, and if you lose, you still make them scared and force them to come even more to the left.

The primary is where we get to fight for the identity of our own party. So stay mad. Scream at the top of your lungs. Don't be afraid to criticize Dems. And in the meantime, build coalitions, build support for leftist causes, and show up ready to rock when primary season comes.

Digimon Adventure 01x54 - A New World / The Fate of Two Worlds

Previously on Digimon Adventure: The true horror disrupting the Digital World was revealed. An eldritch thing of madness, beyond comprehension. Well, initial comprehension. The kids were having a hard time, so Apocalymon put them in the time-out corner until they could get their heads on straight.

Now they're back and ready to do this. This time's for real.

And so, we close the curtains on Part 1 of Digimon Adventure. Part 1 of 2 3 4 5 who even knows?

No idea what his beef is with the humans. We've never successfully Digivolved either. Well, not in Adventure continuity, anyway. I see you over there, Biomerge Digivolutions.

That's more Frontiers' deal.

Actually, I'm curious, once you finish 02 (and the 02 movies), are you planning on moving on to Tri or Tamers?

Plan is to go through 02 and then on into Tamers, and then whichever Digimon anime came after that.

I'm pretty sure I know at least one person on here who would teleport into my apartment behind me with a knife if I skipped Tamers.

Me.

The person who would teleport into your apartment with a knife is me.

Biomerge starts with Tamers! I'm pretty sure Frontiers is the season directly after. (If only because I remember starting it hoping for a second season of Tamers that did not happen...and also actually want to go back and see it.)

Frontiers was. weird.

Ranking Digimon Adventure 1's Chosen Children on the Fight Me Bruh Scale

Here we go. This will be a scale from Most Confident to Least Confident, based on how confident I am that I could take each child in a playground fistfight. In the interest of fairness, they will not have their Partner Digimon with them, and my age will be set to 10 years old; An average of the eight of them.
