points at my mutuals who have played ffxiv and have not read wheel of time. haha. these people dont even know that they would die for mat cauthon. haha. these people dont even know that they would kill for nynaeve al'meara.

@unionizedwizard i am ten miles behind even the mid-class students of Matrimology, but i'll take a shot.

Mat Cauthon is what happens when you grab a prank-loving young man with a roguish smile and a heart of gold, one of the most overused character archetypes in fantasy, and go at him with tweezers and an x-acto knife until you've separated and catalogued every element of him. When you're done with that, you stitch him back together, give him the sharpest double-edged sword of a superpower you can think of, and run him through a gauntlet of shit so nasty you want to puke.

What you get is the most ridiculous man alive. Mat Cauthon is a species all his own in the fantasy world; there are countless roguish young men weighed down by the burden of responsibility, but none wear the mantle with the consummate homoerotic bitchiness Mat Cauthon manages. He's like nothing at all because he represents a simultaneous inversion and straight-playing of about fifty different common character traits, and the conflict makes him deliciously insane.

huh! well now i'm intrigued

WOT casting by Alan Romanczuk

Aviendha- Scarlett Johansson Mat- young Robert Downey Jr. Lanfear- Mila Kunis Rahvin- Christian Bale Verin- Judi Dench Narg- Andre the Giant (Obey!)

Aviendha & Lanfear are very tall, and it’s a part of their characterization and affects how other characters interact with and see them, and those are visibly short actresses. Kunis played kids into her adulthood for a reason. When they tried to cast her as a young Wicked Witch of the West, she looked comical, like a child dressing up in her mother’s clothes. And I don’t think Johansson is the best choice for furious or quick-tempered. She’s more of the sort who always keeps her cool, even when she is mad.

A question I always want to ask people who do these casting lists is, “Are you aware hair dye exists?” You do not have to cast one of the small number of well-known redheads to play a red-haired character. FFS, Johansson herself plays blondes, brunettes and redheads.

So like…. Maybe it’s just because I’m ace but do people actually enjoy kissing? I don’t dislike it or anything but I haven’t found it especially compelling any time I’ve tried it. Is it supposed to be actively enjoyable?

Hey, I wanna talk about how we do fandom! I've come to realize that I, personally, tend to differ from many others in that I highly prefer to only engage with a text as it's written, so I don't tend to really like fanon/extremely ooc characterizations and I find it hard to get invested in ships that aren't canon. My way of doing fandom isn't better or worse than anyone else's, but I am curious about how much of a minority I'm in! So:

*We've all seen ships of characters not from the same media and stuff like shipping the concept of ennui with the color blue, okay, I'm asking what you, personally, find compelling!
