Regarding Champion
I don’t know if anyone has posted something like this, but I’ve been thinking about this the past 9 months (how long the video for Champion has been released, the actual video, not the visualizer).
When I first watched the video for Champion I was confused. I said “what the fuck” and didn’t comprehend it so I didn’t really watch it. Wasn’t my favorite video. But now, I get it. I had the sneaking suspicion forever ago but now I realized.
The moral of the story is “we always want what we can’t have”, something you’ve probably heard a million times in your life. There’s also a hint of “technology is taking us over” poking through it, but let me explain the main moral.
The video is going from person to person, showing people using virtual reality. Instead of just a sloppy transition, it fits in with the “We always want what we can’t have”. Let’s start from the end.
Jaden wants to be Pete. A successful man who is pretty famous and with his friends. Easy.
Pete wants to be young again, jamming with his close friends in a garage again. Aw.
The young boy wants to be a cop, a powerful man who can fight his bullies. Heard often.
The cop wants to be a famous female, have paparazzi following his every move and Be academy award winning. Don’t we all?
The actress (or model, or songer, or etc) wants to be a big old grandpa. Happy and with her family, surrounded by people she loves because it shows in the video that she just recently went through a divorce.
The grandpa wants to be a female stripper, loved by many people and possibly be young again. In the video you can see he’s mildly unhappy with his family.
The female stripper wants to be a corrupt business woman. Heavy in power and having a lot of money.
The corrupt businessman wants to be a fighter. Wants to be able to punch and hit and fight back.
It’s kind of depressing the more you think of it. We always wants to be someone we aren’t, and then that someone wants to be someone else, that person wants to be someone else, that person wants to be someone else, and it goes on and on…
Think of someone you rather be. Rather be an attractive model on instagram? Rather be a lead singer of a band? Well those people, too, want to be someone they can’t be. The attractive model wants to be a farmer. The lead singer of a band wants to be a teacher.
It’s a cycle, no matter how old or popular we are. We want and want and want to be this person because we don’t understand what they’re going trough. We don’t get that the attractive model has to wake up every day and has to be dressed and pushed around. We don’t understand that the singer of a band cries themselves to sleep every day because they feel alone. We all struggle. We all want to be someone we are. We all want what we can’t have.
stay frosty is such a short song cause if it was any longer it would be too powerful and literally obliterate anyone who listens to it
i’m curious, if fall out boy was making new music videos, which 3 songs would you want them to make them for? reblog and put your answer in the tags
remember when we thought champion was going to be the fight song of mania and then stay frosty happened
