Casual reminder that despite 4Kids strict censorship issues, it was perfectly okay with letting their 2003 Ninja Turtles show to do the following:
- Show one of the lead characters get beaten half to death.
- Decapitate the lead villain.
- Have the turtles be forced to fight in a gladitorial arena with every intention to keep them as fighting slaves.
- Allow a man get amputated and stripped away of his body parts to the point where he is just a brain in a jar.
- Watch said man go through an entire mental breakdown for an entire episode as he tries to regain a body and sees memories of his dead mother.
- Have the leads try and take out the main villain with a direct kamikaze attack.
- Have said kamikaze attack leave one of the leads physically and mentally scarred.
- Feature and episode with what is implied to be Cthulu.
- Allow the creation of a man who is not afraid to cut open still living mutants in order to see how their biology works.
- Have one of the leads undergo a series-long transformation into a mindless monster.
- Introduced some characters with very nice hats.
I know the show isn’t perfect but I always get blown away at how much they let them get away with.
THEY ALMOST ALLOWED FOR A HORRIFYING CONJOINED TWIN STORY TO GO INTO PRODUCTION AS WELL. Which would have been extremely awesome, but for some reason they thought kids would be traumatised watching back-alley doctors slice apart conjoined twins.
And then leaving one in a dumpster.
Seriously holy shit.
