First look at Kaci Walfall as Naomi in DC/The CW’s “Naomi”
There is a misconception that fans who want the snyderverse to continue have no interest in anything else. While I'm sure there are some fans that would fit that description, I believe many people who do love Zack Snyder's contributions to the DCEU have interest in projects he has no involvement in.
Here are some movies and tv shows that I'm personally looking forward to:
Green Lanterns by Seth Grahame-Smith
New Gods by Ava Duvernay & Tom King
Naomi by Ava Duvernay
Shazam: Fury of the Gods by David F. Samsburg
Black Adam by Jaume Collet-Serra
Zatanna by Emerald Fennell
Justice League Dark by JJ Abrams
Static Shock by Michael B. Jordan and Reginald Hudlin
Ava DuVernay’s superhero DC drama Naomi has found its lead. Kaci Walfall (Army Wives, Power, The Lion King on Broadway) has been tapped for the titular role in The CW drama pilot, from DuVernay’s Array Filmworks and Warner Bros. Television. Also set as series regulars are Alexander Wraith, Cranston Johnson and newcomer Camila Moreno.
Naomi, the network’s latest DC adaptation, comes from DuVernay and Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship. Based on the eponymous comic book series […] the show follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.
Ava DuVernay is doubling down on DC Comics IP for her latest television project – an adaptation of teen superhero story Naomi.
DuVernay, who is set to direct the feature film adaptation of DC’s New Gods, is developing the drama for The CW. She has teamed up with Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship to write and exec produce the project. It will be produced by DuVernay’s ARRAY Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The show, titled “Naomi”, will follow a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes. It is based on the eponymous comic book series that debuted in 2019, co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and illustrated by breakout artist Jamal Campbell.
So what are the chances of a Naomi/Yara Flor team up?
Regardless of what may happen for the future of the DC extended universe, all I can ask is for that the DCEU be its own thing and not a full blown ripoff of the MCU. Also in Superman’s case: move on from the Richard Donner era it’s not 1978 anymore.
