A fun detail of sandman lore that is relevant to dead boy detectives, specifically the show: if you die in your sleep, you get to choose whether to stay in the Dreaming forever or follow Death to wherever your afterlife might be.

This means that in theory Charles might have had a chat with Morpheus in the splitsecond between falling asleep and dying.

Obviously he chose to go back to Edwin, but I like the idea that he faced another Endless because Edwin read him to sleep specifically.

"And if I die before I wake, pray the lord my soul to take".

I'm actually obsessed with the idea of Kashi (DBD) and Hob Gadling meeting at like, idk an immortals convention or whatever. Not because I think they'd get along but because I think Kashi would annoy the shit out of Hob. Hob Gadling is canonically a man who enjoys bitching and moaning. Kashi has never experienced the desire to bitch or moan in his whole life and would not know how. Hob would be at his throat within the hour while Kashi is just calmly accepting this and Hob's having the very upsetting realisation that this is the same gap in attitude as between him and Dream and he sees now why it was off-putting.

They get drinks regularly afterwards of course.

the cat king being desire's son is a great headcanon but also given that the other child of desire in sandman is part of a multi-decade scheme to topple dream of the endless i think it would be funny if desire considers him kind of a family disappointment because he just seems to hang out in this one town in the pacific northwest being dramatic. yeah this is my son he hasn't gotten close to destroying reality even once. he lives in an abandoned warehouse. he's hung up on an uptight edwardian ghost who won't even give him the time of day. cringe.
