When he comes back Charles asks if he had a..nice.. time.. ?

And Edwin replies that boys are stupid and he's not ready to date yet.

First of all, I have so much trust in the dbda writers and am sure this crazy combo of words would have made an amazing story to watch on the screen, even though it may be hard to grasp the vision from a single tweet, because what in gay mad libs

SECOND OF ALL, EDWIN IN HIS DATING ERA???

I'm sooo here for it, I loved him getting multiple love interests in s1 and really wanted his streak to continue so this is perfectly up my alley

I'm obviously a huge payneland shipper and strongly believe that they would have been endgame, in however many seasons the writers planned to get there, I'm sure they did

I see the potential of them having a bit of a Jim and Pam arc - they're clearly important to each other and are shown to have feelings for each other to various degrees, but due to realizing it on different timelines, other people coming into the picture and bad timing, they keep missing each other until eventually, in season 3/4 the stars allign and finally get together

The payoff would have been sooo satisfying after seasons of obvious pining and tension

Edwin exploring being out for the first time and dating cute boys he meets, while trying to get over Charles a little bit (or at least accepting that he'll always love him but that it doesn't mean he can't love someone else too, especially when he believes he has no chance with Charles), while Charles is figuring out stuff with Crystal

They would have dated but ultimately broken up, bc as much at they like each other, I don't believe they would have been endgame (if you disagree, that's fine ofc, it's merely my what could have been prediction), so imagine Charles realizing something and going to talk to Edwin at the end of the season, only for Edwin to tell him that he's just made it official with the Irish boy (whom he's bonded with over being sacrificed??? holy shit! and the potential for more jealous-and-confused-about-it charles!!)

And we'd have to wait till season 3 for Charles and Edwin to get their shit together in the most beautiful payoff ever

The first time I watched DBDA I was struck by how good of a character Crystal is. She has flaws and depth and heart and some shitty circumstances.

Smells Like Teen Hormones

Summary: Charles just transferred to St. Hilarion's and sees the most beautiful boy across the lawn. Edwin Payne is the prima ballerino of St. Hilarion's dance program and a well known ice queen. But, it's not like something like that could stop Charles Rowland.

AN: I wrote this for deadboyween's free day, but got kind of stuck halfway through. This really deserves to be a lot longer and slower, but I just wanted to hit the scenes I thought was fun. I hope you enjoy it!

The first time Charles Rowland saw Edwin Payne, he almost tripped and fell on his face.

Charles had been aware when he got the sports scholarship to St. Hilarion’s that what it was well known for was its dance program. That had smarted a little bit, because Charles knew that if his skin wasn’t so dark and the type of dance that he practiced was something classy like ballet, he could have gotten a scholarship for his dancing. Instead, he got a scholarship for cricket, which wasn’t that bad as Charles sincerely liked cricket. But, it wasn’t dancing.

What Charles hadn’t realized when he transferred to St. Hilarion’s was that a dance program would have boys as well as girls. And not just fit b-boys like the boys who had been in his crew with him. No, beautiful posh boys with legs for days and porcelain skin who moved like water when they walked across the quad.

Monty crow courting the Cat King and getting increasingly frustrated over it not working.

Today is Crystal Palace The last poll was Niko Sasaki and she petted a cat or dog. Edwin found a cool trinket in his poll too and in the follow up poll he got a key that doesn’t open anything

i've made this post before but i can't get over the way DBDA shows that charles and edwin feel exactly the same about each other. it's demonstrated in everything they do.

it's the way they echo each other's feelings about their relationship, beat for beat, through the whole first season. the same promises to never be apart, the same jealousy over the other's new date, the same opinion that their other half is "the best person they know."

they both keep serious secrets from each other, offer themselves genuinely as a caring ear, and eventually confess - though not the whole truth. they both bring the same lantern when the other is lost and alone, a comfort to each other. they tell strangers that first and foremost, before they are partners, they are best friends.

"you, edwin payne, are my best mate." / "you, charles rowland, are the best person i know." not just the same words, but both of them soothing their best friend's deepest fear. edwin, that he will be abandoned - charles, that he isn't good enough.

and even without all that, they're mirrors of each other in all sorts of clever ways. the way they move in sync and borrow each other's phrases, and the way they exchange glances that communicate their thoughts without words.

they have felt the same the entire time. i think now that edwin has realized he's in love, it won't take long for charles to realize he feels the same in that, too.
