Sonic Adventure soundtracks on vinyl ⊟

This winter, Brave Wave will issue separate vinyl soundtracks for Sonic Adventures 1 and 2, allowing those of us who haven’t played them for a bit to get refreshed on super sweet riffs and weird Knuckles raps.

The first pressing will contain special vinyl colors that represent the essence of both games: blue and white 180-gram vinyl for SONIC ADVENTURE and blue and red 180-gram vinyl for SONIC ADVENTURE 2. All pressings after the first will contain standard black 180-gram vinyl. All versions of both albums will include a comprehensive booklet featuring a reflective interview with Jun Senoue and head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka, as well as Liner Notes by John Linneman of Digital Foundry, song lyrics and character art.

Taito’s classic Darius soundtrack on vinyl (and we’re giving it away) ⊟

Do you want tunes from Taito’s house band Zuntata remastered, packaged in a cool gatefold cover, and in your record player? I pretty much want to buy a record player for this.

If this describes you, you’ll be thrilled to hear that Ship to Shore PhonoCo has just released a vinyl edition of the soundtrack to the 1987 arcade game Darius, complete with liner notes by noted game journalist/ex-Joystiq brother for life Anthony John Agnello. Here’s a sample to stream!

The record sells for $20 in red or blue editions, but one US-based Tiny Cartridge reader is going to get it for free, because Ship to Shore has offered us one to give away! Comment here with your favorite Taito game and we’ll pick a winner after 11:59pm ET today.

Brave Wave issuing 2-disc vinyl Shovel Knight soundtrack ⊟

The Brave Wave Generation series of game soundtracks so far: Street Fighter II, Shovel Knight. That speaks highly of Jake Kaufman and Manami Matsumae’s soundtrack, and of the phenomenal success of Shovel Knight in general.

If you want this set-- featuring a cover by Mega Man artist Hitoshi Ariga-- you can sign up to get alerted to pre-orders here. Brave Wave will also release the art as a poster, which is Very Good News for my wall.

[Disclosure: Brave Wave is a Club Tiny member!]

The "Mega Man Urban Vinyl Collection" by Jazwares. Sure, it might be an imitation of the vinyl "art toy" thing that I don't really understand, but the result is these adorable figures, which probably won't be like $80 each.

Much less mass-produced, and on the opposite end of the abstract-to-realistic spectrum, more overly detail-rich GI Joe-style Mega Man figures by Jin Saotome. Check out that Guts Man! Check out that Guts Man.

Custom Bubble Bobble figurine by Okkle. It took very little to turn this vinyl figurine into a perfect representation of Bubblun regurgitating/enbubbulating a Beluga. This particular item has been sold (for a painful £85) but the source figure is still available -- and, as always, just appreciating it on the internet is free.

I'm glad I have managed to avoid getting into designer toys so far. Whenever I see them online, I have dreamy visions of colorful shelves loaded with cute, artsy creations. I know if I bought one, it would be easier for me to just keep buying and building a collection -- and these things are ridiculously expensive.
