Project X Zone 2 has everyone in it, and I’m in too ⊟

I was drawn to Project X Zone 2 after seeing some of its weird, silly, self-referential jokes shared on Twitter. And by a deep, deep discount on Amazon. I’ve mentioned on here before that I wanted to play it in the hope that the strategy stuff would, at least, stay out of the way of joke delivery. I sure didn’t expect to love this game more than any strategy game I’ve played before.

I mean, I don’t play a ton of strategy games. But still. This game!

Project X Zone 2 is winning me over ⊟

Not that I’ve played it yet, but look at these truly magnificent jokes shared by Nadia Oxford. She also reviewed the game for USGamer, praising its battle system and the nonstop barrage of jokes, which the localizers have apparently kept true to the characters making them. So... that actually sounds pretty cool.

Writing a silly game like this in a good silly way is a particularly tough needle to thread!

Project X Zone 2 demo January 26 ⊟

I can’t imagine this mashup strategy RPG is going to be great, but... maybe it’ll be fun enough to play and have an excuse to see Segata Sanshiro again? There’s a risk-free way to find out: download the eShop demo January 26.

If you’re an Amazon Prime member, there’s another way to mitigate the cost of experiencing this game: it’s part of the 20% pre-order discount thing!

Segata Sanshiro will make me buy Project X Zone 2 ⊟

Along with some people from Resonance of Fate and who cares what else, the brilliant Sega Saturn mascot/game star/pitchman/invincible warrior Segata Sanshiro will appear in the Sega/Namco/Capcom crossover strategy game Project X Zone 2, and now I am going to buy that game.

Presumably he heard that characters appear in the game who are not playing Sega Saturn games all the time, and so now he has returned from space to destroy them with judo. Their battered bodies will never forget.

Project X Zone 2 coming to 3DS this fall ⊟

Remember, it’s “Cross” Zone. This trailer doesn’t have a lot of info about what’s new to Monolith Soft’s Namco/Sega/Capcom strategy RPG sequel, but if you want to see a lot of really nice character art shaking, this is the spot. Famitsu has also posted Japanese screenshots (it’s coming to U.S. and Europe too).

New characters making cameos include Strider Hiryu, Kage-Maru (Virtua Fighter), Kazuya Mishima (Tekken), Hotsuma (Shinobi), Vergil (Devil May Cry), Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil), and Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima (Kazuya).

I want to play it, because Kazuma Kiryu’s in it. I’m a rube.

Another notable 3DS deal on Amazon! You're getting, like, less than a penny per character in this massive crossover SRPG. The gifting season does crazy things to game prices, hence all the sale posts lately.

Other hot deals right now:

  • Mario and Luigi: Dream Team - $29.99
  • Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW! - $19.99 (not the best game but cheaper than usual)
  • Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby in 8-bit Land - $19.99 (same)
  • Holiday Walking Dead Vita Bundle (with 3 PSN games) - $189.99
  • Tearaway (PS Vita) - $19.99
  • PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS Vita) - $10

Project X Zone launch trailer for today's release

Amazingly, there are other games besides Animal Crossing: New Leaf that are still being released -- games in which characters spend their time punching people in the face and shooting guns at each other, instead of collecting furniture and catching bugs. One of those games is Project X Zone, the RPG/crossover game featuring dudes from Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom (not Nintendo).

I am sure this is a fun game. I'm just not sure if my 3DS is capable of playing anything besides New Leaf right now. I tried to make time to open Swapnote the other night, but before I knew what was going on, I found myself roaming around my Animal Crossing town and hitting rocks with a shovel.

North America will be a Project X Zone

Project X Zone, the tactical RPG featuring a massive crossover cast of characters from Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai franchises, will make it to the West this summer!

Wow, I didn't expect that at all! At least we'll be getting some new Mega Man on the 3DS in some form, if not on Legends 3. This will hit North America, Europe, and Australasia with its Japanese voices intact, though apparently publisher Namco Bandai will forego localizing the audio, saving some money with that decision.

PREORDER Project X Zone (not available yet)

Project X Zone wallpaper is loaded with characters. Perhaps overloaded. This is an irresponsible number of crossover game characters to put on someone's desktop. If you download it, you run a risk of having some of your icons camouflaged out of existence.

In other PXZ news, here's that trailer Namco told us was coming. It is ten damn minutes long.

While there's doubt that Project X Zone will make it to the West, most of what I'm interested about in this Super Robot Wars-style mash-up between Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom is in this video anyway: lots of familiar characters pulling of ridiculous combos on dudes.

First look at Project X Zone, the crossover 3DS joint from Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai releasing in Japan later this year. The strategy RPG features characters from a variety of the companies' franchises, including Mega Man, Space Channel 5, Tekken, Darkstalkers, Devil May Cry, Valkyria Chronicles, Street Fighter, etc.

Of course, the immediate comparison one probably makes after seeing/hearing all this is PS2's Namco × Capcom mash-up, which never released outside of Japan. With all these characters, this game looks like something out of Card Sagas Wars, but I'm guessing the gameplay here is more along the lines of Super Robot Wars, a franchise that will also make an appearance in the game.
