Exclusive: Final Fantasy IV track from Prescription for Sleep ⊟

One of my favorite ongoing game music arrangement projects is Prescription for Sleep, which reimagines classic game music as lullabies -- or, if you prefer, just super chill pieces of music.

The latest in the series has the most imaginative concept yet: Fight for your Dreams is a collection of battle themes turned into sleepytime jams by Norihiko Hibino and AYAKI. In addition to “Battle with the Four Fiends,” heard above, the album includes versions of boss themes from Undertale, Yoshi’s Island, Super Metroid, Dark Souls, and, yes, Mega Man 2. I want to hear all of these.

The album is up for preorder on Bandcamp now, and will be released October 10.

Exclusive preview: “Another Medium” from Prescription for Sleep: Undertale ⊟

Seems like a lot of people could use a moment to chill right about now. For reasons completely unknown to me in this tiny bubble I’ve just constructed for this post, we’re all pretty dang tense. So let’s listen to a bit of the latest “Prescription for Sleep” album, featuring lullaby-style arrangements of Undertale tunes by Norihiko “Snake Eater” Hibino.

The two-disc album is available for preorder here, shipping December 1. Undertale in general, I think, is a really happy thing to think about. I’m glad it happened and I’m glad people found it.

Prescription for Sleep, the video game lullaby series by composer Norihiko Hibino and pianist AYAKI, returns with a whole album devoted to super relaxing takes on a single game: Secret of Mana. Here’s an exclusive sample, “Calm Before the Storm.”

Part of the album Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies Volume 2, Metal Gear Solid 3's theme “Snake Eater” is rearranged here as a smooth, relaxing saxophone jam by Gentle Love.

Are you ready for the twist? Gentle Love is actually Metal Gear Solid 3 composer Norihiko Hibino! 

He arranged and performed all of the tracks on this lullaby album -- not just ones originally composed by Hibino -- including tunes from Skyrim, DuckTales, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, and more.
