Kid Icarus deals on My Nintendo ⊟

My Nintendo isn’t the most thrilling rewards program, but it can be helpful. For example, right now you can spend those coins you aren’t using for anything else to get discounts on Kid Icarus Uprising, Kid Icarus for Wii U VC, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters for 3DS VC, and 3D Classics Kid Icarus. All those different Kid Icaruses are worthy, especially at a discount!

You can also exchange your coins for the three Kid Icarus anime shorts produced five years ago (!?!?!) for the release of Kid Icarus Uprising. They used to be available for free, back in the long-lost past when the Nintendo Video app existed.

Yay, more Kid Icarus stuff in Smash Bros. ⊟

Our affection for Kid Icarus: Uprising's multiplayer mode is well-known, chronicled and glamorized by poets, a love story passed down from generation to generation since time immemorial. Or mentioned on this blog time-to-time during the past two years, whatever.

So, we're pleased as punch to see one of the most fun items from Kid Icarus: Uprising's multiplayer, the Daybreak cannon that blasted away enemies with a juggernaut of a beam, introduced to the new Smash Bros.

"Look at these three radiant pieces... Yup, you guessed it! It's another combinable item like the Dragoon -- the Daybreak. This is what it looks like when all three parts are combined together. How powerful will its beam blast be? FYI, you can fire shooting items while moving backward and forward. Change direction by flicking the Control Stick or Circle Pad toward the back of the fighter."

If Smash Bros.'s battles manage to match Uprising's fun, perhaps the bards will sing of this game's online multiplayer too.

Kid Icarus: Uprising's two lost AR Idols ⊟

You're not going to see the Medusa (Rare) and Pit (Victory) idols in your copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising unless, I guess, you've hacked it – but you can see their animations and read their profiles in this video by chuggaaconroy.

And now I'm NOT going to look on ebay for more Kid Icarus cards, and I'm very carefully avoiding thinking about filling out my collection. I'm just going to post this video, and think about how much I enjoyed looking at all the cards I have, and walk away. Walk away.

Kid Icarus Uprising on eShop today ⊟

Like Rhythm Thief before it, we have (finally) summoned Kid Icarus: Uprising to eShop today, simply by talking about it on the TinyCast! We have real power, it turns out. We can make things happen.

No idea on pricing as of yet, but this is great, great news -– anything that increases the availability of one of the best first-party games on 3DS, and probably the best multiplayer game on 3DS -– is awesome.

Okay, so this doesn't come with the stand! You don't need it! Don't worry about it! Image via Powerpellets.

Club Nintendo is giving away a "Core AR Card Set" for Kid Icarus: Uprising, including "over 400" of the cards, which is way more than I have.

All you have to do to enter (in the US or Canada) is buy the game, register it on Club Nintendo, and then opt into the contest on the same site. You have until January 6 to enter. Cards! More cards!

Kid Icarus: Uprising's Pit in "Figma" action figure form, shown at the summer World Hobby Fair. This is an unpainted prototype, of course, but I'm pretending it's actually a Greek statue of the legendary character.

Man ... when the Figma Samus was announced, I preordered one right away, thinking it would be fun to give my future self a visit. Unfortunately, the first thing that arrived for my future self was the bill, and I felt like a damn fool. Will the same thing happen here? Or will I buy this all the way?

Step your Light vs. Dark game up with some new Kid Icarus: Uprising tricks. Item Vacuum is so useful!

As many of our regular readers already know, this little blog is just something JC and I run on the side. Those of you who follow eSports know us better for leading the #1 ranked Kid Icarus: Uprising clan in the world, Garfield and Friends* (according to MLG, IGN Pro League, ESL, and other competitive game leagues).

We spend a lot of time making sure we dominate Light vs. Dark matches no matter how high we set the difficulty on the AI bots -- practicing offensive and defensive plays hundreds of times until it's all muscle memory, alternating between cardio and strength work-outs throughout the week to ensure we're in top shape, and reviewing footage from previous matches to spot flaws in our execution.

This clip still managed to surprise use with a few new tips, though -- and we've put hundreds of hours into the game!

A few Kid Icarus: Uprising 4komas translated by Maud (click for larger images). You can see the original Japanese 4komas, created by 010, on this Pixiv page.

Two important things about the game!:

  1. This Saturday is Kid Icarus: Uprising Multiplayer Battle Day around the world. Still deciding if I want to let people destroy me in person.
  2. For those of you who traded Friend Codes with us in that secret thread, there will be a Garfield & Friends clan meeting this afternoon. We'll post the meet-up time on our Twitter account soon.

Half a year ago, I would never have predicted that I would still be posting this much about Kid Icarus: Uprising.

My weapon of choice for Kid Icarus: Uprising. I won this in a Garfield and Friends clan match last week, and I've already noticed that the percentage of Light vs Dark games in which my teams win has gone up significantly (from 40 percent to maybe 60 percent).

The special stats on the Gaol Blade aren't particularly amazing, but the damage I get from dash/charged shots is insane -- around 85-105 damage per hit. Flip on Quick Charge, and I'm serving Tombstone Pizzas all day.

What's your go-to weapon in Kid Icarus: Uprising?

Kid Calibur 5: Uprising -- or four very accurate recreations of Kid Icarus: Uprising stars in Soulcalibur V's character creator. The only reason Pit isn't included here is that Cam, the fellow who went through the trouble of making these, hasn't unlocked angel wings in the game yet.

Our Kid Icarus: Uprising clan, the venerable Garfield and Friends, is on hiatus while JC's out on holiday, so I've spent the past week doing all sorts of non-multiplayer Kid Icarus stuff, like finally finishing up the single-player campaign, finding random junk to post here, and even watching the game's animated shorts on Nintendo Video.

On that last point yet, if you haven't checked out the animated clips yet, Nintendo put together a compilation trailer to convince you to open Nintendo Video.

Here's a neat Kid Icarus: Uprising easter egg I missed because I am incapable of playing the game at higher intensity levels. Apparently you can find this nod to the old NES game in Chapter 5, Pandora’s Labyrinth of Deceit, behind an 8.0 Intensity Gate. As if there weren't enough reasons why Chapter 5 is awesome!

Kid Icarus: Uprising technique video from Nintendo Direct. Most of this stuff isn't going to help you if you're trying to hang with Garfield & Friends, because it's either pretty basic or focused on single-player air battles, but there's at least one tip on there that I expect to see online a lot in the future. I'm not sure how I feel about it, actually.

If you'd like to watch this in way more detail and in Japanese, here you go!

"Prepare to meet the light!" by Huey Li.

Our Kid Icarus: Uprising clan, Garfield and Friends, had its first exhibition matches under its new banner yesterday, and we just dominated the competition -- the competition being AI bots handicapped at a difficulty setting that remains classified for clan secrecy purposes.

What I can share with you are select tweets and IMs from yesterday's legendary battles (follow us on Twitter!):

For honor. For glory. For Garfield and Friends.
Team Garfield and Friends is just wrecking dudes in Kid Icarus: Uprising. @jcfletcher and I going HAM on NPC bots.
We beat #1 Bacon! [one of many opponents we crushed] Now we are the #1 Bacon, & he is #2.
Not sure how these NPC bots will recover from this beatdown from Garfield & Friends. Can't show their faces 'round here no more

Now that we are nown to existence, do you have what it takes to hang with the big boys of Garfield and Friends? Are you a terror on the field, and known for shipping Dark Pit to Abu Dhabi, international postage fees be damned?

Let us know if you're ready to join the best of the best of the best, and maybe we can begin discussions on how you can earn that [G&F] tag next to your nick.
