Mega buttons for Mega Miku’s ⊟

The official Hori controller for Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega 39′s (and the identical PS4 version for Future Tone DX) looks really simple, and really appealing in an arcadey way: a “touch slider” on the top and four huge, colorful buttons on the bottom. I thought the old Project Diva controllers were simple!

For the privilege of slapping these big controls, it’ll run you about $350!

This classic Street Fighter 2-themed Switch joystick looks cool as heck ⊟

Here it is, our EVO post I guess! Hori announced three Real Arcade Pro V joysticks for Switch, and I just love this one designed to evoke the classic Street Fighter 2 cabinet. The other ones, with their Third Strike artwork, are pretty cool too!

I don’t need a joystick (points to “Ask Me About My Burgeoning Minimalism” pin, attached to “I Spent Twenty Years Trying to Play Fighting Games and All I Got is this Lousy T-Shirt” shirt) but they’re nice! And the very good Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is a good reason for someone else to have a joystick, as is the variety of Neo Geo classics.

Hori says these will be out in October for $160 each.

Daemon X Machina X big weird Joy-Cons ⊟

Of all the games to get custom Hori accessories, I didn’t expect weirdo mech action game Daemon X Machina to make the list. But the results are weirdly desirable, with comfy-looking grips and weird extra buttons on the back that can be user-assigned (and have turbo functionality). The dorkiest detail: the X button, of course.

Like Hori’s other Joy-Con replacements, these bigguns only work in handheld mode, so no locking them together into an ersatz Pro Controller.

Dragon Quest XI would like all of my money ⊟

First, the Nintendo Switch Dragon Quest XI S Loto Edition, for Japan. Okay, the Slime Joy-Cons are great, but I can resist--

oh no, the Dragon Quest Slime Controller for Nintendo Switch. It comes with a treasure chest that works as a Switch stand. And then the Slime sits on top of that when not in use. How can I live without this... (checks listing) one hundred dollar video game accessory? You know, I skipped the PS2 and PS4 controllers. I think I’m due.

It’s a tiny arcade stick for Switch ⊟

Sadly, the Fighting Stick Mini isn’t tiny in a novel way -- Hori has released versions of this convenient arcade stick on other platforms, but it is smaller than the Switch unit itself, which is: pretty small.

What is novel is the software Hori links to on the product page. Not a recent fighting game, but... the Arcade Archives series. Lots of good joystick-using games in there, from fighting games to shooters to puzzle games, all of which were of course originally designed for joysticks.

Hori has a new replacement Joy-Con, kinda ⊟

Hori’s Joy-Con (L) substitute has a D-pad that looks way better than the official one, and it comes in a nice blue... but it also lacks rumble, motion sensing, SL/SR buttons, and any wireless functionality whatsoever.

In other words, this controller can only be used in handheld mode, connected physically to the Switch. At ¥2480 ($24), it is much cheaper than any official Nintendo controller, and it kinda acts like a handheld-mode Pro Controller? I guess? It’s definitely not for Nintendo Labo projects.

Maybe I want this Slime PS4 controller? ⊟

It’s not as spectacular as the wireless Slime controller, but that eyeball analog stick is cute (if probably horrific in use), And it’s that happy blue color!

The Hori “Wired Controller Light” will be released later this month in Japan for 2980 yen (about $26), a much more economical option than that magical wireless Slime controller.

Pokkén Tournament DX preorders are up (and that weird Wii U controller works with it!) ⊟

Don’t throw out your Pokken Tournament Pro Pad just yet, pro Pokkers. The Wii U controller is also compatible with the upcoming Switch release of Pokkén Tournament DX, according to the Japanese website for the game (via Serebii).

If you want to get in on this before they become hard to find, you can still get both the regular version and this neat Pikachu variant on Amazon. The Switch Pro Controller is still discounted $6 if you prefer to use that, too.

You can preorder Pokken Tournament DX now (20% off for Prime members).

Splatoon 2 Pro Controller and accessories for ... yes, North America! ⊟

Yesssss. The Splatoon 2-themed neon and pink Pro Controller for the Switch will release in the states alongside the game on July 21! If you don’t care what’s on the pad and just want to get one as cheap as possible, the standard Pro Controller is on sale right for $6 off at Amazon.

Other colorful accessories for the game are on the way. The Deluxe Splat Pack is the coolest in my opinion -- it includes a case, card case, analog caps, and a new Hori-made Joy-Con grip that adds mechanical triggers (and squid graphics). There’s also a cheaper set with no grip. And you can get a standalone case and squid-shaped card cases in pink and green, too!

This Switch voice chat setup looks clunky af ⊟

The headset comes from Hori -- maybe Nintendo’s solution will be more elegant -- but I thought one of the reasons the Switch handles its voice chat through a smartphone app was to avoid clunky headsets? In order to listen to game audio and your teammates, though, this piece (mic is detachable, by the way) requires you plug into both your console and your mobile device.

It makes sense when you remember Nintendo wants to allow people to play this on-the-go with the same experience as their home setup. Being able to adjust both audio sources is neat too. Hori will release this in Japan alongside Splatoon 2 next month for ¥3480, or around $31.

It’s a Slime controller for PS4 ⊟

I am throwing my DualShock 4 controllers right into the trash in anticipation of the arrival of this Hori-made controller, available July 29 in both Japan and my home.

At 9980 yen (about $90) it’s a lot pricier than the standard DS4, but also a lot Slimier.

It’s almost identical in design to the PS2 Slime controller released alongside Dragon Quest VIII. I never got one of those...

Yes, the Slime Speaker Stand works with the Nintendo Switch ⊟

If you’ve been holding off on buying one until this important update, allow me to confirm: you can buy a Nintendo Switch confidently. It will work with the Slime Speaker Stand Hori made for the DS.

I rushed to test this crucial accessory after seeing a report from @jnmario959 that the Kid Icarus: Uprising stand also accommodates the Switch. And it works well enough, with a couple of caveats. First, the Switch is too wide to fit within the little guides on the sides of the stand. So it basically just sits on the stand without being secured. But it sits well enough to use -- especially if you’re playing with the controllers detached!

Second, it’s not really possible to get the USB-C charging cable in under the stand, so you can’t charge and play at the same time.

Even with those conditions, I’m confident in saying the Slime stand works better than the built-in kickstand, with the additional benefits of an external speaker, multiple viewing angles and It Is Shaped Like A Slime.
