It’s very Sonic 2/Tails-esque! Another player can grab a Joy-Con and control Cappy, flying around (and off screen) and helping Mario solve puzzles. For example, Cappy can float between two platforms, allowing Mario to bounce off the hat and jump further than he normally would.
Mario is shivering here because the area is cold, not because he’s terrified the sentient hat will return to once again take control of his body. That’s what we’re telling ourselves at least.

This puzzle action game came out of nowhere on Nintendo’s Treehouse stream at E3 -- it’s the latest project from IndiesZero, known for fine works like known for such games as NES Remix, Electroplankton, and Retro Game Challenge / Game Center CX. Listen to this amazing song:

Okay, yes, two new Metroids. Mario is a body snatcher. Those are surprises. But here’s a fighting game in which Curly Brace from Cave Story can battle Umihara Kawase and the characters from Code of Princess -- developed by Umihara’s Studio Saizensen. And it’s coming out on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC in Q4.
“The game uses a four-button control scheme in which all attacks are triggered by various combinations of action buttons. By avoiding the use of traditional quarter-circle and half-circle input commands, Nicalis and Studio Saizensen hope that the less complex controls of Blade Strangers will allow new players to get into the fighting game genre. The development team’s goal is to revitalize a once-mighty fan community that has the potential to grow even larger.”

If you’ve ever tried to play an Atari 2600 on an HDTV, you know that it’s a garbled mess. So I’m pretty happy to see the Retron 77, which outputs your 2600 games over HDMI, with original Atari controls or USB controllers. My Journey Escape cartridge is waiting!
In other unlikely releases, Hyperkin’s got an SNES mouse at E3! Why not?

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga has redone graphics for 3DS, and adds an optional easy mode for kids. More substantially, a new side story called “Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser” follows some Goombas and other enemies through the game!
Appropriately, Nintendo will release Koopa Troopa and Goomba amiibos alongside this game, on October 6.
I forgot all about the first Zelda expansion, The Master Trials, coming out on June 30, but Nintendo put out a new trailer today to remind me:
The second DLC pack, The Champions' Ballad, releases around the holiday season (with relevant amiibo figures on the way). Both packs are available through purchasing the game’s Expansion Pass, which is $19.99.
You GOT me, Nintendo! It’s a 2.5D Metroid with a combination of classic Metroid shoot/jump/bombing with some grappling stuff. It’s a sort of remake of Metroid 2.
It’s developed by MercurySteam (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow), working with producer Yoshio Sakamoto.

These are going to be on so many cakes, y’all.
They’ll also be used in-game to unlock costumes and an “assist function.” Like, you’ll be able to make it so that Bowser can’t testify against you in court, presumably.
