Two-player simultaneous play, with various unlockable characters like Sue and Toroko (and a fun costume for Curly in the GIF above)! Plus, Nicalis went ahead and added a new version of the soundtrack, by Ridiculon.
It’s local co-op for two players, and judging by the GIF in Nicalis’s tweet, Sue will be one of the playable characters. Which is rad as heck.
I’m so looking forward to a new way to play this! Now the Switch version of Cave Story+ is even more appealing.
The last Blade Strangers video I put up featured Curly, but I was disappointed that the Cave Story character didn’t actually use her machine gun in the E3 build. Nicalis put up a new clip for the Switch/PS4/PS1/PC fighting game, though, and here we have Curly letting the AK spray on Umihara Kawase:
In related news, Nicalis is teasing an update that adds Cave Story’s original graphics to the Switch release (a number of people have complained that Cave Story+ only uses the graphics from the WiiWare port). A patch is also planned to hit late summer with local multiplayer co-op support.
Cave Story is out again, in approximately the 8343423th iteration since its original PC freeware release in 2004. You’ve probably played it multiple times. And despite (I’m going to guess) having your life changed by this wonderful game in at least one of its forms, you might question whether you need another copy of it.
Well, it’s great on Switch, of course. But the strongest case for owning it again is, well, the case. This thing is gorgeous.

Nicalis will release this Studio Saizansen-developed game for Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Q4 this year.
I wanted to post a quick pic of the PocketCHIP while I put together a longer piece about it, and sharing this Cave Story demake seemed perfect for that purpose! Doubtful Games created this for the Pico-8 “Fantasy Console” (play it in your browser here), which is pre-installed with each PocketCHIP!
On May 1, Cave Story will finally arrive on the 3DS eShop, an occasion commemorated by the amazingly Kool artwork above, tweeted by Nicalis.
Personally, I'll commemorate this announcement by replaying Cave Story, like I do too often. Or not often enough. I'm still not any damn good at Cave Story.

Drop what you're doing and watch this. It's the first trailer in a year for Kero Blaster, the new game from one-man Cave Story studio Pixel, and it's looking hot.
There's so much going on! It seems so much denser than Cave Story, but the music, graphics, and character movement all seem reminiscent. And, of course, the weapons.
This is being published in North America by Playism, on PC and iOS. It'll be out May 11! So soon! Last year, Nicalis was teasing a 3DS version as well, but there's no announcement of that today. Via Siliconera.

So I don't know what Nicalis is teasing regarding this super cool Machine Gun USB drive – the developer says only "What could this be?" Hopefully the plan for this awesome little device is "send to JC's house," followed, I suppose, by "let other people get one somehow or whatever."
It's Ikachan on a 3DS! Neat! Nicalis recently revealed plans to release the Pixel-developed underwater action adventure on both 3DS and DS, purely in the interest of preserving native display resolutions.

If you have Cave Story+ on PC, load it up and check out the spooooky Halloween update! If not, go get it! It's on sale for $6.69 right now on Steam as part of a Halloween sale.
In addition to new seasonal graphics, the update adds a "Machine Gun Challenge" and leaderboards. Part of the fun of this Halloween update is discovering all the fun new graphics, but if you just want to see everything at once, here's a set of sprite sheets.
