Nicalis is drunk with crossover power ⊟

The company just announced Crystal Crisis, a Puzzle Fighter-type deal starring characters from Cave Story, Code of Princess, Binding of Isaac, 1001 Spikes… an unannounced future Nicalis game… and Astro Boy and Black Jack. I don’t know how they got the licenses for these two iconic Osamu Tezuka characters, and I don’t know how they ended up here, but… it certainly got my attention.

Meanwhile, the other Nicalis crossover game, Blade Strangers, just announced that this amazing anime Shovel Knight is in it (video via Gematsu). I love him.

In conclusion, Nicalis, hmu if you want Tiny in either or both of these games. We can make this happen.

Two cool Blade Strangers videos ⊟ 

It’s super weird that there’s a Studio Saizensen crossover fighter! I didn’t even realize for the longest time that Code of Princess and Umihara Kawase shared a developer. It’s also super weird that Cave Story characters are in here!

But I’m into it, and I’m into that inexplicable pixel Curly Brace appearance. Here’s Blade Strangers’ opening animation:

The last Blade Strangers video I put up featured Curly, but I was disappointed that the Cave Story character didn’t actually use her machine gun in the E3 build. Nicalis put up a new clip for the Switch/PS4/PS1/PC fighting game, though, and here we have Curly letting the AK spray on Umihara Kawase:

In related news, Nicalis is teasing an update that adds Cave Story’s original graphics to the Switch release (a number of people have complained that Cave Story+ only uses the graphics from the WiiWare port). A patch is also planned to hit late summer with local multiplayer co-op support.

Blade Strangers is E3′s most unexpected news ⊟

Okay, yes, two new Metroids. Mario is a body snatcher. Those are surprises. But here’s a fighting game in which Curly Brace from Cave Story can battle Umihara Kawase and the characters from Code of Princess -- developed by Umihara’s Studio Saizensen. And it’s coming out on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC in Q4.
