Has anyone compared Chip Harrington’s happy town - an idealized version of the good old times before “modernization” - to Gail Peterson’s life for her family - a life of “simplicity” away from the “materialistic world” of society where they were unhappy and in pain, although in their case there was the added element of their psychic daughter they needed to hide -, and how their daughters, Sunny and Magda, used their psychic powers to rebel to them and preventing them from hurting more people?

Supernatural writing MotW episodes with subtext linking them to the main characters’ arcs?

Here a metaphor for TFW all with the core element of living in denial, Sam running away from his problems, Dean “im fine” Sublimation Winchester and Cas pretending he doesn’t have the Empty looming over him, as well as all the usual who even is Cas who knows he’s so much in denial of what he wants it’s buried so deep.

Never! ;)

Is Dean OCD or Germaphobic? Cuz the boy likes his stuff clean. ( Can't BELIEVE I didn't see this before)

Hi!

Oh yes, there is much meta about this I’m sure! I’ll tag @mittensmorgul @elizabethrobertajones @postmodernmulticoloredcloak as I’m sure they probably have lots of stuff on this from before season 12 :)

There are a ton of points throughout the years of Dean disliking being dirty, even since the pilot lol, but that’s fair enough as he’s filthy, but yeah, disliking ectoplasm, being grossed out by witches and their ‘bodily fluids’, dirty staircases etc. Meanwhile Sam is like, whatever, I’ll just get clean later it’s cool, Dean is making faces and moaning.

One I wrote and lots of people added excellent points to was about 12x15:

Basically we got very annoyed with some people claiming that Davy Perez doesn't know canon and can't write because he wrote Dean as dirty and we just... no this was exactly the POINT because Dean is clearly emotionally compromised here.

Then look into the trunk in 12x04? @mittensmorgul tells me that you can't compare Sam and Dean’s clothes in terms of tidy v messy as Sam’s was jostled around, but it still uphold the fact that Dean himself is tidy, and Davy Perez is the one who wrote 12x15...

On top of this with everything we know canonically about Dean being a home maker, a fantastic cook, loving to keep his room clean and tidy, being annoyed when Sam messes it up.

Dean scrubbing the kitchen from top to bottom when he’s anxious is my personal headcanon.

I’m sure there’s a ton of meta out there on this and I love it, I wonder what we might see in season 13 given they hinted at this in season 12. Season 12 went back and looked at so much earlier canon and plot points, the new writers are doing a fantastic job at taking these little pieces of gold and making them relevant again and I love it :)

Thank you to the lovely @godshipsit for this fantastic gifset and for being so kind to this non-giffer :)

The Destiel puzzle: singularity & plurality in season 12.

Supernatural is subtle but often leaves us so many clues over such a long time to piece together.  This is like a glorious Destiel-themed puzzle to be consolidated throughout the season. In the season so far these two-lined clarifications have been used recurringly in key moments.

The first is singular/precise and the second is plural/comprehensive.

I just wanted to point this out. For reasons.

And in case anyone thinks hey, you might be over thinking it. Remember all the other parallels and call backs this season. Just a small sample:

12x03 A parent’s grief causing him to hurt and entrap children he felt he cared for.

12x04 Doing the ‘wrong’ thing for the ‘right’ reasons. A mother hurting her children out of fear and believing she is doing the right thing.

12x05 Blood might relate you to family but it doesn't mean you are family. Ellie was not in any way Hitler’s true family in the SPN term. The Thule son wanted to make his father proud but eventually realised that he didn't want to follow him. The Thule father makes a whole speech that could be right out of the BMOL old men’s book.

12x06 Lies. Damn lies. Mistakes can be made but lies are more difficult to forgive. Mary is their blood mother but Jody acts like their ‘true family’ mother figure, directly mirrored to Mary in the immediate succession of their conversations.

There are so many more but basically, given the repeated continuation of all the other callbacks, I’m going to go with this was definitely done on purpose ;)
