Ik I’m just screaming into the void but I need a place to vent bc I’m pissed. You know if you can’t take care of a pet anymore, for whatever reason, there are so many resources for places where you can safely drop them off rather than abandoning them, right?

Today my friend’s boyfriend found a bearded dragon in the bottom of a dumpster, missing part of his tail, and with a cigarette burn on his back.

Now I know clearly the old owners didn’t give two fucks about this poor guy given they put a cigarette out on his back but holy fuck, if you hate your animal that badly, just do the right thing and give it up for adoption. Better yet- don’t get a pet to begin with, especially ones that are higher maintenance like bearded dragons or other reptiles.

I’ve been fuming about this all day because I can’t imagine how sick in the fucking head you have to be to throw a pet away. The same goes for people who just release cats and dogs into the wild when all they’ve ever known is domesticated life.

Please, if you can’t take care of your pet properly, either don’t get one at all or send it to a shelter or sanctuary where it can be safe and have another chance at life. Don’t throw your lizards into the dumpster.
