women need to pump iron
this is true!! the beginnings of osteoporosis start at 30, and lifting weights counteracts the effects
This is why we need to listen to women, take their pain seriously and get more women into medicine
Just the absolute worst thing I’m starting to learn is the uselessness of education for ppl’s own well-being.
I studied biology, chemistry, math, physics, all of the sciences, to decent results, and for what? To never goddamn learn how these would be applicable irl, to my health, safety & longevity.
I look at my blood work and wonder about the state of my arteries. Do I have atherosclerosis? Is it advanced? Have I damaged my body beyond repair? Is there any point trying to turn it around now?
Who the fuck knows? Bc these are not concerns you should study and memorise for, apparently.
So many TV shows/movies depict the Epi Pen as a total solution for anaphylaxis...it's not. The Epi Pen gives you 30 minutes to get to a hospital where they can save your life. TV makes it look like you just have to use the Epi Pen and then the crisis is over. Do people without allergies or a loved one with allergies know that an Epi Pen only buys you time? The more I see this on TV the more I worry...
**Maybe you should reblog this because I'm actually worried that most people don't know.
Omg so much this! I have to use my epipens about three times a year and my doctor recommends I shoot both of them in my thigh and then call an ambulance! They are a STABILISER not a cure!!
Since a lot of people don't know this, I'll point out that Narcan works the same way. It's not a one-and-done. It buys you time for the EMTs to show up.
“It could be either childhood sexual abuse or adult sexual assault,” said study author Rebecca Thurston, a professor and director of the Women’s Biobehavioral Health Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health.
“Based upon population data, most women have their sexual assaults when they are in early adolescence and early adulthood,” she added, “so these are likely early experiences that we’re seeing the marks of later in life.”
Physical manifestations
The new study, presented Thursday at the annual meeting of the North American Menopause Society, adds to a growing body of research on the long-term impact of sexual assault on the body and the mind.
“We need to keep our attention on this issue of sexual violence against women and not let it fall off the radar screen of society, because it continues to be a major women’s health issue,” Thurston said.
Prior studies have found sexual trauma to be linked to higher levels of triglycerides and blood pressure in midlife, and a three-fold greater risk of developing carotid plaque, all key risk factors for heart disease.
In addition, a 2018 study Thurston conducted found women who reported prior sexual assault were three times more likely to experience depression and twice as likely to have elevated anxiety and insomnia than women without a history of sexual trauma.
Depression, anxiety and sleep disorders are all linked to poorer health outcomes, including heart disease, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
CDC statistics also show more than 1 in 3 women in the US (and 1 in 4 men) experience sexual assault at least once in their lifetimes. Considering the widespread impact, Thurston said physicians should be asking their patients about any prior sexual trauma, and then carefully monitoring the woman’s cardiovascular risk as she ages.
Women who have been sexually traumatized should also feel empowered to speak up and tell their doctors, she added.
Madder than before.
Not wearing make up everyday is something that supports a lot of different activism causes, not just feminism.
It's anti-capitalist. Duh.
It's better for the environment. All those little plastic containers? Terrible. What do you think the carbon footprint of the cosmetics industry is? Chemicals from make up end up in the water and are affecting animals. Palm oil use is destroying the forests and affecting indigenous people. Many other natural ingredients are from rare plants, like argan oil.
It's anti-racist. The cosmetic industry encourages black and brown women to bleach their skin. And anything that fights against beauty standards is also anti-racist because we know western beauty standards are based on features associated with white women.
I do think some make up actually is art, but wearing a face of make up everyday to look "natural" isn't and not doing that is something everyone can do.
Not wearing makeup is anti-capitalist, anti-animal cruelty, environmentalist, anti-racist and feminist praxis 🥰
It’s also better for your health because a lot of makeup isn’t properly regulated or examined by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (or the FDA if you’re American), and contains endocrine disrupters and carcinogens and it’s literally fucked up to be putting dangerous compounds on your skin (but particularly your lips and eyes) when it doesn’t actually serve any practical function.
We’re all exposed to chemicals every day in our food and clothing and skincare and containers yadda yadda, but you can try to minimise your exposure to limit its impact on your body, because it is having an impact.
Reading about how we’re all chemical-ing ourselves into infertility and having babies with like abnormally short perineums (which apparently correlates with infertility idk) because of phthalates is honestly… :///
Like I’m not a crunchy granola-type person, but I will be purchasing fragrance-free everything (except perfumes obviously) for the rest of my life because that is stressful. Micro plastics are also stressful in a similar vein.
nothing like putting endocrine disruptors and carcinogens on the most delicate skin on your body, and where three different major entry points into the body are :)))
honey production does hurt the bees. the honey stolen is replaced with a toxic synthetic sugar substance which isn't healthy for them. honey isn't for humans to steal, please educate yourself.
Arright, sit down, you’re about to get some knowledge dropped on you by somebody with beekeepers and meadmakers in the family.
The “toxic synthetic sugar substance” you’re referring to? Is sugar water. Literally SUGAR and WATER. There’s nothing synthetic about it. And the bees only rarely need a LITTLE bit of sugar water to help them get through, because if they’re provided with enough nectar, bees will make a shit-ton of honey. Most hives generate more honey than they can ever use.
And when a hive starts getting too full, the bees may swarm and try to go find a new place to live. Do you know what happens to a more than three-quarters of swarms that leave their hive? THEY DIE. Yup. Either they can’t find a new hive, or they run into predators, or they wind up landing somewhere that humans don’t want them and then exterminators get called.
So removing a few frames from the hive, taking out the wax and the honey, and replacing them for the bees to fill with new comb and honey and larvae is actually GOOD for the hive. The bees stay busy, they’ve got frames to fill, the queen doesn’t feel the need to go anywhere, and their human buddies can help keep them safe from natural predators and pesticides.
The mutually-beneficial relationship between humans and bees has existed for literally thousands of years. People keep hives, bees pollinate crops and make honey, people harvest the honey, the bees get extra protection and can happily buzz away keeping the plants healthy and making more sweet sugary goo.
Honeybees are an endangered species. If they die, not only does your vegan diet become completely impossible, but the entire planet is royally fucked.
And do you know who’s doing more than anybody else to keep them alive and make sure we don’t all starve?
BEEKEEPERS. And they treat those bees like their own damn children. They’re not going to feed them toxins or “steal” all their food, they want the bees to be happy and healthy and THRIVING.
Being vegan is absolutely fine, but don’t go trying to tell other people how to eat and don’t sound off on shit until YOU educate YOURSELF. Try talking to an actual beekeeper sometime. Or at the very least, read an article by a beekeeper instead of relying on someone else’s scare tactics.
Meanwhile agave nectar, often touted as the healthy eco friendly vegan alternative, has a higher level of fructose content (per weight) than high fructose corn syrup, and has been linked to a possible increase insulin resistance and heart disease.
As for eco friendly? The plant itself takes anywhere from 7 to 14 years to grow, and in order for it to be harvested (and you bet your white ass it’s not a white person doing this labor intensive procedure) the entire plant has to be killed.
That’s right, it’s a highly non sustainable resource with long term environmental ramifications for the locations it is grown in (primarily Mexico and South Africa) both in terms of economics and cultivation. But don’t worry, we’ve gotten around that by building plantations which grow only monocrops of the plant which in turn require the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides , which, are you ready for this, are killing the bees on a global scale.
But sure. Human consumption of honey is harmful. Yea, okay. Sure.
one more time folks, your vegan diet relies on bees.
if humans didn’t have this symbiotic relationship with bees, your diet in a temperate climate, new york hipsters i’m looking at you, would consist of like 90% barley and all your teeth would fall out by age 30.
nobody’s making you eat honey, but y’all need to stop talking ignorance in people’s inboxes like you’re the door-to-door missionary of food righteousness.

BBC News - Is water always the best choice on a hot day?
When I was first living in India, I got pretty sick because I was just drinking water like a fish rather than getting electrolytes. My program director took me to the hospital, and the doctor basically explained the same thing as the article. He advised me to drink coconut juice at least once a day (or fresh lime soda with salt, or buttermilk). It's not as much of a habit as it used to be for me, but I still order lime soda with salt and NEVER pass up coconut vendors.
As a nurse, I encourage you to read and repost, and quote at length.
