Let’s show Max, WBD, and every major studio that we will not stand for this way of running their businesses — queer, BIPOC, fat, handicapped, and other marginalised folx deserve to have their stories told IN FULL too.
We will not back down. We are here, we EXIST, and we damn well demand respect for us and for our stories.
Rewatching the last episode of Our Flag Means Death after the cancellation – and especially after the last 12 days in this fandom – I find myself struck anew by Izzy's words to Prince Ricky:
"You're not a pirate, lad. You're a spoiled, entitled bunch of twats, dressed in puffy blue nighties. [...] Kill me. Kill us all. Our spirit will last throughout your entire fuckin' empire, because – we’re good. And you ... are a rancid syphilitic cunt."
Struck, by how they relate to Queer history – to Stonewall and the AIDS crisis, to Marsha P. Johnson and Harvey Milk – how they relate to the trans women & girls, men & boys who has been beaten and killed for who they were – to the queer couples who can't hold their partner's hand because it might 'provoke' violence against them – to the kids growing up today in states and countries that are denying them their rights to exist as themselves, before they even have a chance to work out who they are — and to the continued silencing of queer and BIPOC voices in mainstream media. (And even to how those words relate to the OFMD-following itself.)
The message is as loud and clear as it can be:
You will never be able to remove us from this earth. We have always been here. Queer people have ALWAYS been here. And we will ALWAYS remain here. Even if you kill us.
WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE
So get with the f'ing programme, people.
