I redid a map of the world this story takes place in. (old one here) It’s not perfect, but I think it is much easier than the first map. Thanks so much for looking and the feedback! : )
So this took near forever, but I'm pleased, at least for now. It was really tricky, mainly because the cities and worlds in which this takes place are situated vertically. There are no landmasses, so I knew I had to make a topographical map for it to make sense. I also needed to show currents (they play an important geographical and story role) in how characters move around the map. Also, I needed to distinguish which cities belong to what region. The Republic has its own insignia I could use- and their cities can move, but more or less float in the same place. Pilgi- which are the vast collection cities that remain on the uppermost layers of the ocean, are very different from Banthi, the nation that resides deeper within the layers of the ocean. I also did a lot of research on on how each one would name their cities- Merfolk like to name their cities after actual nouns and adjectives that help describe the area.
I was worried that it would be too complicated- I tried to keep it simple. There's no way I'd do a whole world map, this story takes place in one of the oceans of that cover the world- it made things easier. .. after studying maps and geology and more maps and going through sketches, I'm done and I can go back to reference this just to make sure I'm keeping myself straight (collapses)
