MORE Anime Openings I Love

Hello! I know I’ve made posts about anime openings before a few times already, but there are just so many that I couldn’t help myself. Here are more anime openings I love!

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu OP 1

On this blog I frequently talk about how underrated Rakugo Shinjuu is, and its OP is no exception. I love this opening for its cool and mysterious vibe, and how well it manages to fit all of the different time periods in the story.

Vinland Saga OP 1

I never would’ve thought that a modern rock song would work so well for a show about Vikings, but this song really hypes you up for the content of Vinland Saga and the lyrics are very fitting to Thorfinn’s story as well. The animation also manages to showcase many important moments from the show without spoiling anything, which is impressive.

Haikyuu OP 5

This is already such a classic I almost don’t even need to mention it, but Hikariare is not only my favorite Haikyuu op song but also the OP to my favorite season of the show (so far). The visuals of this opening are just as stunning, like the mountain transforming into the eagle? Come on. Amazing.

Ranking of Kings OP 1

Ranking of Kings protagonists Bojji and Kage are the cutest ever, and this opening is mostly just the two of them running around and being cute. The second opening of the show is also very good, but it’s more serious, so I like the calm and sweet vibes of this one more.

Chihayafuru OP 2

As much as I love Chihayafuru and plug it on this blog as much as possible, I have to admit it doesn’t have the strongest openings. That being said, I like the second season’s opening song the best, which is fortunate because the second season is my favorite so far (same thing as Haikyuu I guess lol). I really love the last few seconds of this OP, where Chihaya is animated practicing karuta alone. Anyway please watch this show it’s great :)

That’s all for now! I’m sure I’ll come up with more to add to this series because I love anime openings. Side note: I’m linking youtube videos which tend to get taken down for copyright/other reasons but I usually keep the post updated with newer links. So if u see this with a broken link, just head back to the original post and you should be able to find it!

FMAB Openings: Ranked

**spoilers for FMAB!**

**ALSO: CW FLASHING GIFS**

Hey guys! Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is one of my favorite anime ever, and since I’ve been rewatching it recently I decided to make a ranked list of all 5 OPs. If you need a refresher on what the openings look like, I included a link for each of them. Let’s get into it!

I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but often when I really like the first opening of an anime I tend to dislike the second because I’m always going to be comparing it to the first. I think that’s what happened to me with Hologram; there’s nothing wrong with this one necessarily, and I love the introduction of Ling and Mei, but it just doesn’t do much for me besides some well animated shots. It’s not bad by any means, but compared to the rest of this list it has to be #5.

#4: Opening 5, “Rain” by Sid

I typically prefer more upbeat, action-based OPs, so while I do like the song Rain I didn’t like how melancholy and slow this one is. It’s just a lot of shots of all of the characters being sad, and while I believe that it makes a good final opening for the show thematically, for my own personal taste I’m putting it at #4. I especially like the final shot, where Ed is waking up with Winry at his side.

*WARNING: FLASH*

Something that always upsets me about this opening is that Ed and Al are separated! I know, I know, that’s kind of the whole point, and it does a great job of setting up the following arc, but it still makes me sad to see the brothers apart. My favorite thing about this op is the first few seconds where the music times up to Ed and Al drawing a transmutation circle. The animation in this opening stands out as well, leaving me to place it solidly at #3.

#2: Opening 1, “Again” by Yui

This is the most popular and recognizable OP of FMAB, and honestly it deserves it. It sets up the whole series wonderfully, and I especially love the first couple seconds where we get shots of young Hohenheim before we ever even see him in the show. My favorite part has to be when Ed and Al’s bodies unravel in time with the music, however it was really difficult to pick just one part of this opening to comment on because the whole thing is seriously so great. This one would be my #1, if it weren’t for...

Golden Time Lover is by far my favorite song out of all the OPs, and I absolutely love the dark, cloudy theme in the animation. This OP marks a turning point in the series where the plot gets more convoluted and dark; the arcs following this OP like the Envy fight, Greedling, and the Briggs soldiers are some of my favorites in the whole series, so it makes sense that an OP combining them all would be my favorite. This is also the first time an opening shows Al’s body within the door of truth, and I remember getting so excited seeing it on my first watch of the show. This was an easy #1 spot for me.

I hope you enjoyed my ranking list and looking back fondly on all the FMAB openings! Feel free to share your thoughts/your own ranking below, and let me know if you’d be interested in an ED ranking as well.

Top Anime OST tracks

I’ve made a few lists about my favorite anime opening and ending songs, but I also listen to a lot of anime OST (original soundtrack) tracks that I really wanted to give a shoutout to!

I’m going to be linking to the tracks on Spotify, but I’m sure there are other places you can find these songs too.

81194 (Ray’s Theme) - The Promised Neverland

Ray is my favorite character in The Promised Neverland, and I absolutely adore his haunting theme. I think it captures his personality and role in the show extremely well.

My Lie - Your Lie in April

I really would love to put the entirety of Your Lie in April on this list, but if I have to choose only one of the non-lyrical songs off the OST it has to be My Lie. This track is repeated throughout the anime at emotional and evocative moments, and represents Your Lie in April’s heartbreaking nature.

Next to You - Parasyte: the Maxim

This OST track was very memorable for me, I was able to identify it at moments in the show where it acted as a mark of Shinichi’s inner struggles, or at times when it represented his interactions with another character. I really love this song, and even listening to it now makes me very emotional.

The Breakfast Song - From Up on Poppy Hill

I wasn’t going to include any Ghibli songs on this list (because I love too many of them) but I think I’m just going to create a separate Ghibli list later. That being said, I needed to talk about The Breakfast Song. This song was so memorable to me while watching the film, and it’s just super freaking cute and fun. It really fits the theme of the movie, because the main family runs what is essentially a Bed and Breakfast and provides meals for all their lodgers.

I am a huge fan of RADWIMPS, the band who wrote the soundtrack for both Your Name and Weathering With You. (like, remember when Spotify showed you what band you were in the top 1% of listeners for? I got that for RADWIMPS) I love pretty much every song on both of those soundtracks, but this song was particularly memorable to me because of its title and at what moment the track occurs during the movie.

Best Anime OPs Part 2

I’ve already made a list for the Best Anime OPs, but since then I’ve watched more anime as well as looked back on some older ones, so I finally felt like I had enough to make a second list!

Evangelion OP (Cruel Angel’s Thesis)

I just got around to watching Evangelion recently aka I watched the entire thing in 3 days, which meant that this was on repeat in my brain for approximately 72 hours straight. And even though I’m kind of sick of it atm, It’s clear why this song is widely considered to be one of the best OPs/OP songs of all time.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War OP 1

I’m a big fan of Love is War as a show regardless, but this song has great vibes and the visuals are a beautiful trippy mess (inspired by the opening credits to some of the older James Bond films, actually)

Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! OP

Objectively the most popular OP of the Spring 2020 anime season, Eizouken’s opening is such a fun bop and the iconic poses of the three main characters became a redraw meme within artists’ circles.

Your Lie in April OP 1

Your Lie in April is one of my favorite shows, and this OP is comprised of beautiful watercolor stills in between really impressive, fun animation. Not to mention Hikaru Nara by the band Goose House is just a genuinely good song.

The Promised Neverland

The Promised Neverland opening has an awesome song, but it also manages to not spoil anything about this super tense mystery show.

Best Anime EDs

A list of some of my favorite Anime EDs, or ending songs!

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood ED 1

This ED is pretty iconic, as its adorable cartoonish style is a harsh contrast to the sometimes dark and grim storyline in FMAB. The song is really great too.

Toradora ED 1

I’m a bit biased because Toradora is one of my favorite shows, but this ending song is just so cute and I love the umbrellas so much.

Erased ED

This ED has really excellent animation, utilizing a cool saturated lineless look. If you’ve read the Erased manga, there are also some easter eggs hidden within.

Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai ED

I love this ED so much because it changes 5 times throughout the show, representing each arc with each different girl (if you know the show, you’ll know what I mean). I linked the first ED that focuses on the character Mai, but each ED has a different voice singing each one. I’m not 100% sure, but it appears to be sung by each character’s respective voice actress.

The Promised Neverland Season 1 ED

This song perfectly captures the creepy, unsettling nature of the show!

Best Anime OPs

Figured I’d create a thread of my favorite anime OPs, aka opening songs. Feel free to add your own!

Toradora OP 1

I may be biased because this is one of my favorite anime of all time, but the song is a BOP and I’m a sucker for character cards. All of the protagonists are so cute!!!

Attack On Titan OP 2

There’s a ton of hype about the first opening to Attack on Titan which is valid cuz it does slap, but my personal favorite has to be the second one. The animation is fantastic, and I love the way the music matches up to the action you see on screen. Also, symbolism.

Made in Abyss

I just really love this song, and the animation in the opening is really cute and fun (and uhh a bit misleading... in actuality this show is a lot more horrifying than it is cute)

Erased

Another song that absolutely slaps, but the animation is really cool and rife with symbolism as well. It’s also really interesting watching this back after knowing all the plot twists and seeing the hints that were left.

March Comes In like a Lion OP 1

This anime means a lot to me, so this song gets me emotional pretty much every time I hear it. The visuals in this opening are really interesting because they don’t show any other character besides Rei (the protagonist) but the entire thing is symbolism and if you watch the show it makes a lot of sense.
