There you were, about to head to bed after a long day, making your way down a corridor. Never in your life had you, or at least could you remember having done so, completed so many of your duties in a single day. But now you could finally take a breather, now you could sit down and lift your legs up. Or perhaps you’d take a bath before lifting your legs up. Though that’d probably mean you dozing off right of the bat. But then again, would it be so bad? Then you’d get your much earned rest.

But you were so caught up with the train of your thoughts that you barely registered footsteps, and a lingering, prominent mana, approaching you. In fact, it was only as you heard your name being called out with an audible, and yet fragile, nearly timid, tone of voice, that you turned around to see William standing there. His posture was straight, as a captain’s should be, but in his presence was an unspoken undertone, one that you couldn’t remember having seen before. But, then again, you had been dating only for a few months, so was it that unlikely? Not really.

“Hey,” you greeted him, wondering if something had happened.

“Good… evening,” he replied with a forcefully stiff and formal syllables, that made your smile fall.

“Is something wrong?” You inquired as your mind started racing, bringing forth one troubling thought after another.

“Could we-, could we talk…? Maybe take a walk in the garden…?”

You nodded to him, trying to give him something that vaguely reminded a reassuring smile.

Apprehension passed over him. But. He had already asked you, and you had agreed, leaving him with ushering you out into the garden, where you had taken too many walks together to count. And each and every one of those walks had been filled with laughter, reassurance and adoration, but this time… this time he wondered.

“So… what’s up?” You asked as you were making your way through the garden, the smell of grass, mixing together with the sweet and sensual scent of the flowers around as only the sound of your steps accompanied you.

“I…” he inhaled while gazing up to the skies. “Actually… I wanted to show you something…” his voice was trembling, and his gaze shifted around, as if making sure no one else was around.

He stopped and turned to face you as you watched him. His movements were slow and hesitant; a slight tremor passed through him as he swallowed while placing his hands onto his mask. Seconds ticked away as he slowly lifted it off of him, to reveal his complexion.

His eyes were to the side, and his entire form had seemingly curled around itself.

“I know that I am not-,” he began, but swallowed the rest of the statement, leaving it all unsaid, deeming it as something you both knew. “But I wanted to show you, because… I-, if we’re going to.. go on with this relationship…”

“Will,” you spoke with tender syllables, delicate as the first flower of springtime while cupping his cheeks. “Now that I’ve seen, am seeing beneath the …façade, seeing who you are under that mask, I am more fond of you, if anything. You trust me so much with revealing this to me, and it makes me so incredibly happy,” you smiled to him with your voice cracking in the slightest as you were struggling to contain the overwhelming happiness you felt. “I might be your first, but I’d gladly be your forevermore…” you continued, soft as a feather floating on a cloud of cotton, as your thumbs drew circles onto his skin.

He parted his lips, but only a broken sob left him as his mask fell onto the ground. His arms wrapped around you and pulled you into the sanctity of his embrace. And now that you were pressed against him, you could feel him shaking like an autumn leaf; how he was still standing, you did not know, but you were glad to support him, hold onto him, love him.

“Thank you,” he whispered against your ear; his gratitude dripping onto you as if stardust from the newly born lights on the night sky.

And so, you closed your eyes and sank into the embrace, knowing that it was only the beginning of the next chapter of your life, together, with him.

You twirled around in your room as you admired the outfit you had gotten for your Valentine’s Day date with your bellowed William; a bright smile planted onto your face. Your steps felt light as your heart was so full of love for him that it made you glide across the floor, not really knowing what to do with yourself.

There was a knock at the door, and without a moment of hesitation you rushed to the door, opening it with a swift movement, and revealing Will… out of his usual squad uniform and in a suit, best fit for the occasion. Only if it wasn’t for one thing… his mask. He was still wearing his mask, which didn’t quite tie in with the rest of his ensemble, but it didn’t do much to dispel the smile you wore.

“Hey,” you breathed out while leaning against the door frame.

“Hey,” he greeted back, his eyes making a brief stop on your lips, painted with carmine lipstick, making him swallow. “You look splendid,” he said; his words and airy, so light that they floated out of him effortlessly.

“Thank you,” you said, letting the words drip from those red lips of yours while your eyes fell to the side for a brief moment. “Will?” You uttered, the letters of his name falling delicately from you, one by one.

“Yes?” He asked, sounding out of breath.

You held out your hand as you lifted your eyes to his. And he took it with no hesitation, his eyes shifting around as if he didn’t know what to admire the most.

“Come here…” you whispered as you pulled him into your room; your eyes gentle and alluring, making him swallow again. But he wasn’t about to resist, and thus, he followed you in, closing the door behind him.

You wrapped your arms around him, leaning closer to him as you gazed deep into his eyes; seeing the rising blush on his cheeks. “Is there a need for this?” You asked, placing your palm onto his cheek and tracing the edge of his mask with your thumb.

“I… You know that my scar will attract attention…” he replied, his gaze shifting from yours.

“Mhm,” you hummed, still brushing the line, where his mask stopped and his skin began, with your thumb. “The thing is…I think you’re more handsome without the mask…” Your eyes shifted around his face, admiring every detail of it.

His gaze shifted back to yours, full of hesitance. It always surprised you how assertive he was as a captain, but when it came to his personal life, he could be so …timid.

“May I?” You asked, barely lifting the corner of his mask. He only nodded as a reply, letting you remove his mask as you hummed with contentment.

You placed his mask safely onto a nearby table before wrapping your arms around him again; gazing into his eyes once more with nothing but love and adoration. “So handsome,” you breathed out before pressing a kiss onto his cheek, right on the line of his scar. “I won’t force you to go out without it, but…” you pressed another kiss onto his other cheek, again on the line of his scar. “I love you, not your mask…”

You heard a whimper escaping him as a result of your confession, and as you pulled back just enough to gaze to his eyes, you saw tears rolling down his cheeks. And his eyes, radiated with all the love he felt for you while his lips were pulled into a grinning smile; as if he was simultaneously happy and in a state of disbelief.

He cupped your cheeks into his hands as he pressed his forehead against yours for a moment, whispering and sobbing: “I love you so much…” And as you thought that he was about to pull back, he whispered it again, and again, and again, as if it was a prayer and you were the goddess he worshipped.

But eventually he pulled back, not being able to deny himself of your sight anymore. And in turn, you again saw his gentle, purple eyes, contrasted by the carmine lipstick stains under his eyes. “I love you,” you still whispered; sealing both of your confessions before your lips melted together in a kiss. 

Sun was setting behind the horizon as you sat on the railing of a private balcony of the bedroom you shared with William. Birds were chirping in the distance as the world was painted in golden light. It was as if it all was unfolding before you, every door imaginable was open. The future was right there, the bright future you had dreamed of ever since you were a child, but could only barely describe into words. Right there, just within the reach of your fingertips, now showcased by the horizon that gradually turned into a canvas of yellows, reds and purples; and sun by the songbirds around.

You hear the door behind you open, but as you were about to turn your head around. William spoke: “No peaking dear.” There was a sense of amusement in his tone, and you could almost hear the smile that must’ve been painted over his lips.

“Oh my, first you order me to sit out here when you do god knows what in our room,” you teased. Your tone radiating with sarcasm, making him let out a small laugh.

“I know dear. Just bear with me for a moment longer,” he continued as his steps grew closer to you. “Close your eyes,” he cooed; his voice next to your ear, tickling your skin almost as much as the passing breeze.

You closed your eyes just as he asked wearing a bright smile, sitting still as you listened to the ruffling of clothes. You concentrated on the way his warmth enveloped you; you would’ve guessed that his arms reached around you for a moment, only to be pulled right back. It was followed by a small weight settling around your neck, him still fumbling with something behind you. “Hm?” you uttered, turning your head slightly, but still keeping your eyes closed.

“There,” he uttered, more to himself than to you. “You may open your eyes,” he whispered next to your ear.

You opened your eyes and looked down, your fingers finding their way onto that which now you wore. It was a locket with a green emerald on it and intricately carved with a leaf pattern. Your eyes carefully examined each detail as you yourself were in awe.

“Do you like it?” He asked, circling around you while placing his hand onto your shoulder.

“I love it, but…” you began, turning your gaze to him with a look of gratitude and wonder.

“I know that I don’t get to spend as much time with you as you’d like, just like I don’t get to spend as much time with you as I’d like. So, I thought that I should give you something that you can wear at all times, something that reminds you of me… And I thought that a locket would suit for the purposes,” he smiled to you; his voice soft, almost timid.

A tender smile rose to your lips as you looked at him, the love you felt for him radiating from you clear as day. “It’s perfect,” you whispered as you leaned closer to him, making him smile as he mirrored your movements.

As the sun finally set over the hills, your lips met in a tender kiss. Your future, your shared future finally having arrived, dancing over your lips with tender caresses. The stars emerging above you as a blanket, envying the amount of love that you displayed. But you wouldn’t have known as all you focused on, once your lips parted, was each other’s eyes and the way you adored one another.

“So…” you began with a hushed tone. “What were you up to while I was out here?” You asked with a smile that you couldn’t have shaken even if you had tried to.

“Perhaps we should go and see,” he suggested, taking your hand and leading you inside.

As he opened the balcony door, your heart melted in your chest at the sight that unfolded before you.

Lit candles placed around the room, and a table set for two, accompanied with roses, stood in the middle of the room.

“We get alone time so rarely that I thought we should make the most out of today.” He spoke with such softness that you wondered if it was possible.

“Thank you,” you only whispered as you turned to him, wrapping your arms around him and leaning closer.

“You’re welcome,” he still breathed out right before your lips met in another kiss, this even more tender than the last.

William is the perfect husband material 🤭

It's been a few weeks since the last Golden Dawn mission where they had to fight some of their enemies and where that one scene stuck in Captain Vangeance's mind. He hasn't stopped working to discover the whereabouts of that person, the only person who saw him without a mask and who respected him even if he was an enemy. He has been sending people to look for some clue or something else that would lead to you. He even wondered a few times if you still remembered him.

"Captain, I found the person you were looking for"Yuno said, entering the room to deliver to the captain the results of a long investigation

"Where?"William rose from his chair, eager for the discovery

"They were spotted in a hiding place somewhere in a forest near a village outside the kingdom" Yuno handed the report to the captain and he observed it carefully

"Thank you very much, really. You did an excellent job, Yuno" William looked at the knight and smiled

"Thanks"

"Well, I'll go there to take a look. See you soon"William left the office

The captain descended the slope while avoiding some branches that appeared in the path, looking ahead. He saw a river and approached the edge, he stood there for a moment looking around him and when he least expected it, an arrow passed by him and pierced the tree trunk from the other side of the river.

William turned to the side and saw who he was looking for most, you. He smiled and you lowered the bow, smiling back at him.

"Are you looking for me?" You asked

"Yes, but it seems like you found me first" He walked towards you

"I knew you would come, do you want to talk to me, is that it?"

"Yes, you're right. I think now we can be more comfortable than we were that night" William came close to you and you looked at him. "How have you been, Y/n?"

"Did they tell you my name?" You looked at him a little surprised

"I found out when I searched your data"

"I see...I separated myself from others, I decided I didn't want that life and I isolated myself here"

"I'm happy about that, you've changed for the good"

"Yeah... What about you? Why don't you take off your mask?"

"Do...Do you want me to take it off?"He asked a little nervously

"It's just you and me here and I missed your face" You said and he smiled

"Fine, I'll take it off" His slightly shaking hands grabbed the mask and removed it from his face, revealing the large scar

You looked at it, seeing the slight shyness in his eyes and smiled at him as if you wanted to convey some confidence.

"Does it bother you that much?"

"A little, I always keep the mask inside my hq so that no one sees it. People get scared when they see it. I was mistreated in the past for being born like this" His eyes lowered a little and you could read the sadness in the eyes. You couldn't imagine how cruel people would be to mistreat an innocent child just because of something they weren't responsible for.

You crouched down by the river and moistened your hands in the water and stood up again with his eyes following you, confused by the action. You approached and wiped the sweat from his forehead due to the heat of the mask, your fingers gently passed over the scarred skin and massaged it.

William was very quiet while you did it, enjoying every gentle movement of your hands passing all over his face. He felt a slight warmth in his cheeks with all that care and tenderness, something he had never had before and that was coming from someone he hadn't even imagined.

You ran your hands along his face, removing a few drops that ran down his turtleneck and finally smiled at him.

"There was just some sweat on your forehead but you're clean now" You said

"Thank you, that was very kind of you" He looked up and smiled at you

"Come on, let's go for a walk" You held out your hand and he took it to followed you

You took William for a long walk while the two of you talked about things about your lives. He was enjoying every minute he was with you, that feeling inside him only grew more and more. The captain was getting lost in the brightness of your eyes that focused on him as he talked.

You took him to a high place where you could both see the sunset and sat on a rock while you watched it set.

"Did you like our afternoon?" You asked him

"I loved it, it was very special. You really surprised me a lot, you turned out to be an incredible person" He said and you looked down a little embarrassed

"Thank you. You know, my other comrades didn't pay me compliments either and seeing that someone cares about me is something that makes me very happy. Your knights must really like you, right?"

"Yes, they do"

"You deserve this love, you deserve to be loved" You held his hands and he was a little touched. It was as if his inner child was healing from those soul wounds.

"I don't even know what to say"He whispered, looking away

"Don't say anything, you don't need to say anything else, William. Your eyes say it all" You smiled

A silent moment followed between you and the captain. Seeing that the sky was getting dark, you stood up and walked away from the place and he looked at you.

"Where are you going?"

"It's getting dark, I need to go back to my hiding place. It's dangerous to stay in the woods at night"

"Wait..."William stood up and you turned to him."You don't need to go back"

"What ?"

"I said... You don't need to go back and hide anymore"

"Why?" You frowned, confused

"Come with me, I'll take you to the Golden Dawn"

"Are you crazy? They would kill me because I was one of the faces of the enemy" You laughed but he insisted again

"I protect you, you will be part of my group of knights and you won't need to worry about anything else"William proposed and you considered

Deep down, he was offering you an opportunity to change your life and there was no way to deny it. You looked at him and felt so grateful that your paths had crossed and you had met him. He no longer saw you as an enemy but as someone special to him that he needed and you saw him as someone unique and kind that you admired immensely.

You walked towards him and you looked at him for a moment as you organized your words.

"Alright, I accept going with you but promise me you will stay by my side"

"I promise, I will be your captain and your best friend at all times"He assured you, smiling at you

"Let's go then, I want to know that place"You winked at him

"You will be very welcome"
