I'm still not prepared for the next chapter of the manga
And I have my Vermillion altar ready
So, last week's chapter, chapter 354, got us Lucius turning up again, the reveal that he's brought back Morgen and Acier to turn them into Paladins- and Jack getting a hole in his chest. This week's chapter has confirmed that Jack's dead, or at least dying, and with Lucius focusing on Yuno, I was left wondering why, out of the five grand magic knights on that roof, did Lucius use his one chance at an attack none of them would see coming to kill Jack, of all people? So, I wanted to do a bit of a dive into what (I think) Lucius' strategy is.
So... What if Charlotte dresses up as a moth for Halloween?
We have a manga smile people!

Is it just me, or does it look like Lu-lu's arm is smoking? I mean yeah, in the "hotpants" he's wearing (curtesy of Heidi Klum), he is smoking in another way, but this looks... Like he might have taken damage from Zora
And he's "annoyed" by Zora's grinoire for some reason. Which got me into looking at Zora's grimoire. Okay, so he has trap magic, we know as much, but his grimoire has writing. There are runes. An incantation perhaps? Naah, that's probably a stretch. But it does have the lunar cycle and a 8 pointed star, which apparently is a symbol for... Hope. I think that in the article I briefly skimmed, there was also talk about it representing perfect harmony, as well as the combination between something we can see and what we can't see (I'm paraphrasing). So, how about, this is just me speaking out my thoughts and if someone has an actual idea of what's going on please tell.
But what if Zora's magic can in fact affect otherworldly magics as well. No I'm not going to argue that it can be used to beat Lu-lu as it is necessarily, but if we think about traps, they usually are hardly what they first appear to be. And Zora is holding his ground against Lu-lu, with runes, but still! Maybe Zora has a component in his magic that allows him to "break rules" and set a trap to all types of magic.
And I'm wondering about the presence of the lunar cycle. Because... the other celestial magic user (Yuno with his star magic) was able to land a blow. (Though I think he used wind magic. Which makes me think that if people have a "filtrate system" in them for mana, meaning that even if you could use let's say water magic as a wind mage, it would have to pass through "mana veins" and gather an essence of you in the process. The caster makes the mana their own, so Yuno's magic will always have a component of his celestial magic (star magic) no matter what he does.) Damn, I really want to ramble about the theory/system of mana and how it works that I reasoned for Embers, but it's essentially fanfic and not...canon.
But anyways... Zora. What is your deal?
In regards of a conversation that took place in the Server(tm) today, starting with a theory post by @whackdreamer
So, let’s say that Grey is the ‘ultimate healer’ of BC, because she can transmutate (transform) basically anything, into something else. But her magic isn’t creating anything, it turns something into something else. Which, as pointed out by @wildflowerwoodsworld ,would follow a similar principle as the Law of Conservation of Energy. You can’t create something from nothing. Which would imply that though she might be the most potent healer at the moment, even while saving Gauche, he still had all necessary components necessary for healing in his body. Think of like a surgeon using some reconstructive material to recreate something. But again, the point stands, there needs to be something to use as material. What it means in the context of people’s chests being penetrated by arms, spikes, you name it, it’s... a bit of a grey area, but I’m willing to argue that there is still enough material for Grey to use for the purposes of transmutating the injuries away. So, she can “stretch” some materials, perhaps in order to form something else. Like... she can transform into a being/person much bigger than herself, meaning that she can “stretch” the material in her own body to create something bigger, but there has to be limitation to this, of course. Where that limit is, is impossible to tell at this point.
Now. The manga has... at least heavily implied that Mereo’s body is, at the moment, composed of mana, which would imply a relation of physical components being able to turn into mana. And that, of course, would make one think that couldn’t pure mana then be used to create something physical. But this would violate the “no regrowth of lost limbs” rule/limitation of mana in BC. And here we could apply a concept similar to the Second Law of Thermodynamics that states that entropy is always increasing. The flow of mana is always going to one direction, and cannot be reversed. Meaning: you can turn material into other material, you can turn materia into mana, but you cannot turn mana into materia.
A real life example would be creating energy (heat) by burning wood. You’re creating energy by consuming something physical, but that energy cannot be converted back into wood again.
What this means for Mereo, we cannot conclusively say at this point, because... we don’t really know what’s going on with her, but there is the theory of her turning into a kind of fire spirit.
And yes, mana is able to interact with materia. For example heat (energy) can heat objects (for example iron) and make it melt. But it still doesn’t mean that energy could be turned into materia. So, I’m suggesting this type of a relationship between the two.
Plus, in order to maintain a spell, an the spell’s “”physical”” form, one needs to concentrate on it, so it’s not a lasting state of being. (I say “”physical”” when I mean “a state where it’s able to interact with materia”)
This is just some thoughts about mana and how it works
Yes that does make sense. Maybe defeating the hundreds of guards was a whatever thing for them. Also in the fight against Lucifiro where the hell did Nozel run off to. Its literally like he was slapped back to the Spade kingdom 😭😭😭
Well uhh... It's not like any of them are going strong 😭😭😭
And for the purposes of this ask, I'm bringing back this:
They're getting their asses kicked 😭 But there is always the chance that we'll see them soon again, because though the tempo of figths is really quick there also happens a lot. So, in their time the 3 minutes they might take to recover from being thrown around like ragdolls, is really really long, and a lot happens in it, which Tabs wants to portray ofc

Can we talk about this:
Because there's been a lot of discussion about how are they all (Cloverians) still alive, but Rill's spell is still up. And I believe he stated that "as long as this spell is active, no one can die" which is insanely op.
Until it drops.
Because you can get back up again and again and again, even if normally you'd lay down, alive, but unable to do anything more. However with this spell, they can fight themselves to be nothing but moving corpses who drop down as soon as the spell is completely gone. If I've understood the spell correctly.
Meaning:
How exactly this spell work, I have no clue. It's an AOE yes, but is it... is there a time-limit? Or something else? Don't know.
Of course I want to be wrong, and given how it is shōnen, I probably am. But I'm just putting this out here.
Food for thought
First Nozel and now Fuegoleon. Lucifero really hates pretty faces 🏃🏿♀️
You’re right, hmm 🤔 Maybe Lu-lu just can’t handle men who are prettier than he is 😌💅
How did Nozel NOT die like 💀💀 I don’t want Nozel to die but cmon what kinda shounen plot armor BS is that😭😭😭 up the stakes of the arc Tabata I wanna see some angst😫 let your berserk inspo take over and just obliterate a captain or two I wanna see some tears😫
My dear flaming chicken it’s so happy to see you again🥺💕 and yeah :// at this point I’m just waiting for this arc to be over and to go back clover to see what they’re going to do abt the wizard king situation
Like are they gonna keep Julius bc he’s been doing an okay job so far or is it going to be one of the captains? If so, my vote is for Fuego❤️🔥
Wait, characters are supposed to die in big climactic arcs?
looks back at Fairy Tail where - during the final arc of the series - a group of characters were carried on crosses as if dead but turned out to be alive; where someone was being turned into particles and dying but lived because the continent was reshaped just in time; where two characters disappear into a time-space rift and are presumed lost only to return later; where the old man heading the found family of the series uses his life force to decimate an opposing army, dies, and is revived in the end
Yeah. I think I'll continue to take my fiction with a heaping dose of optimism and happy endings.
Consequences doesn’t have to mean death. I’d accept loss of limb(s) or magic quite happily- I just want something to show that this actually happened and wasn’t just some sort of fever dream.
*looks at the round table where this discussion is held, takes a sip of tea and sighs*
I think there will be something the characters will have to show for from this arc, and it’s not just the DT and DDs (most likely) winding up dead (because it would very much make sense for them to be/stay dead). Most obvious examples atm would seem to be Yuno’s 2nd grimoire, and potentially staying in Spade, because they need a leader. And having a member of the original royal family would fit nicely. No, I will not address the fact that he’s 17, and would become a king, because pharaos could be far younger than that, and this is fiction. (Bet he could still do a better job than Auggie.)
And though I have an issue with Tabs’ potential Vermillion dismembering fixation, I agree that something should happen. May I suggest for example Yami and William being unable to use their magic (maybe permanently) as a result of the ritual? This would give a reason for some power exchange in the squads. And I am also very much rooting for Fue to be the next WK.
No, I will not talk about the one message on wall-of-shame stating that I have Tabs’ balls, implying that thus he can’t kill of the Lion siblings.
I’m trying to think what could they have been building up until now though. A death? Another consequence? I’m still waiting to see baby Leo, and you-know-who-you-are no I will not be interested in Lu-lu working his way through the Vermillion household to kill of the youngest of them.
Okay but the thing is, even if there is consequences such as magic loss it's not gonna be satisfying. This entire arc is plagued by bad writing and even worse plot armour, it makes me wonder what happened. There was no buildup and as it seems there's gonna be hardly any aftermath. The thing is, Tabata makes it seem like there's nothing at stake. We don't know the state of the evacuation or Clover Kingdom, but it's written in a way where it's just another "yeah they'll be fine". Asta is in his union form again so all I'm thinking is "he'll beat the baddies anyways. Nothing's gained, nothing's lost." This entire arc just feels incredibly pointless and boring. Bleach had filler arcs better than that. There is no emotional pressure, as any character could potentially die or become crippled and it wouldn't affect the story in any way because most of them are unfortunately pointless. There is no power curve in the characters, there is no interesting new moves, there is no personal development. All there is is Mereo angy, Captains are losing again and need to be saved by the MC. For the love of God Tabata, give the other characters a reason to exist in the story. Not just Asta and Yuno. I beg of you.
@thoughtfullyrainynightmare that would be cool tho... Like maybe Yami becoming very weak and unable to recover??? The angst that would create and that would actually lead the manga into a good direction, possibly like the characters (mostly Asta) will most probably mature and become less childish s d realize that it is the real world and anything can happen?? And I am also looking forward to Yuno's development, how he would react to the whole revelation. Also, I think at least one person has to lose something important to make the whole thing really... Like maybe all of them together losing to Lucifer, that would be a great thing or maybe something like Fuego when he lost his hand, (i srsly though he died)
You get it! There would be angst potential, even for the whole BB squad, because Vanessa stated that there would be no squad without Yami. So, if Yami lost his powers, they’d need to watch Yami become a shell of the man he is. And that could eg bridge a way for them to go on a search for Yami’s homeland, because... let’s say he knows about a practice there that might help. One doesn’t need to look for a reason that hard; and there would be a reason to have the overseas arc.
Plus, as you mentioned, it would guide Asta to a more responsible direction and there’d be a lot of potential for great character growth. Especially now that all of the BBs are uncovering their potential.
Yuno too needs some development, because there should be something. He’s uncovering, and receiving, a lot of things. Like... having 2 grimoires. Is there anyone else like that out there??? It should be a big thing for him emotionally. Or maybe there should be an arc where he struggles to use his own magic, because he has been using the elf’s magic for his entire life. He hasn’t touched his own magic. As far as I’m concerned, he has just been channeling the power of someone else, and there should be character development because of it.
And speaking of the elves, they’re there, and potentially coming to the rescue, which might give them the upper hand. But who knows at this point.
Also, I agree, there should be a loss. Of something. Gadja will die, most likely because he... only got to live because of Rill’s spell. But Clover. What will Clover loose? For personal reasons I don’t want Mereo or Fue have to be the ones to pay the most, because I love them, but... Mereo is pretty op....
Yes, me too 😭 But he’s a tough cookie, and he better not die or else I need to have a chat with Tabs

Chapter 319 was posted yesterday, and my simping ass is worried so I will ramble. Meaning that I will be talking about manga spoilers.
*inhales*
They’re getting their asses kicked god damn it T^T And Mereo! *breaths heavily* Okay, it wasn’t the hand with which she was going to punch Lu-lu, which makes the tiniest flicker of hope still appear in the back of my head (also, y’know, she is still in the fight, which she shouldn’t be if she actually, too, would have lost an arm) that the panel doesn’t show what everyone, including me, thinks that it’s depicting.
I AM WORRIED FOR THE VERMILLIONS
And for the whole world, of course, but... Tabs, what is this thing with dismembering the Lion Siblings????
*screams*
Julius better haul his ass in there, or something, because-, what is there? If he really is the fox that he appears to be, holding reins of more than it first appears, then he should maybe do something. I hope.
In the Server(tm) it was stated that Tabs doesn’t have the guts to kill them, or take Mereo’s arm. But I am-, I want to believe in it. Though it seems more like me wanting to reason why the most obvious outcome wouldn’t become a reality, when it most likely will.
*sobs*
*and is worried for the Vermillions* even if Fue isn’t canonically significant, yes I am saying that as a big Fue simp, but let’s face it, he hasn’t really done anything that could be easily overwritten, but it doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t love him okay
I am eagerly waiting, and dreading, the next chapter
Honestly, there's a lot that I wanna see in this current arc. On ship's side, Astelle and Yamichar, it doesn't even need to be canon yet, just some moments and steps forward. On sibling's side, reunion between Noelle and Nozel, maybe a team-up, and that theory around Charlotte and Luck. Also, I wanna see Yami and William again, Fuegoleon with Spirit Dive, Nozel with a Mercury Armor... a lot of things. But those are also good ideas for some fics.
(Apologies for getting back to you only now)
But yes. There are a lot of possibilities with this arc, and certainly a lot to see. Which is why I take it that this arc will still last a long time, which I absolutely don't mind, because it'd be better for Tabata to explore his own creation and the relationships of his story. Because, Tabata as much as we value your efforts and appreciate you for creating this story for us, ... worldbuilding, power scaling and keeping the plot consistent with some things... isn't your strong suit.
As in, I wish that we'd be provided with a solid timeline for Acier's death. Because up until now, the consensus seems to have been that Acier got cursed before Noelle was born, and that she died really soon after Noelle's birth. But then... there was the chapter of Acier calling out Noelle's and Nozel's names while battling with Megicula.
Okay, the timeline that was explained to the Vermillion siblings could have been a lie. For example, it could have been a lie she told them in an effort to... escape an abusive relationship. (This would be a weird way to go about it for a noble of her status, power and reputation, but... I could in a way, if I *had to* try to reason it through something, understand it through this.)
And now I'm getting side tracked. But yes. There's a lot to see, and I'm glad that we're already seeing Noelle acknowledging her feelings for Asta, so it could be that we'll see a lot of canon ships formed this arc. (I say a lot, but personally I could see... 5. ... Okay that's fairly lot.)
And Nozel in a mercury armour. He really should develop the shield/breast plate/alike that we saw him use in the Elf acr. And we just might seem him in mercury armour, it's something I want to see too.
I also, as one might expect, have a lot of hopes for Fuego's Spirit Dive form. And I hope, I HOPE, that Tabata doesn't take the cheap way out of it and just go "I'll add a dragon tail and wings, and that's cool". Because that's so generic. I do want to see scales. I want to see a lion and a dragon together. I want to see a helmet, maybe even that of a lion. As in making it seem as if he indeed is a lion king. And maybe a dragon gauntlet. I want his armour to to roar out like a lion "I am the king among lions, with the Fire Spirit by my side, and I will not be defeated!"
But... sadly... I fear that we'll see something boring, tedious, and seen before.
As much as I'd like to see Luck's and Charlotte's relationship become canon in this arc, that one I do think would take a lot more time.
But, we are getting, or we should be getting a lot of thing this arc
Thank you for stopping by! ^_^
okay but now you’re making me want to try and design Fuegoleon’s spirit dive armour. I also want to redo Noelle’s Saint Valkyrie bc that needs more protection than it has.
It seems that I enable people without realizing it (whoops).
And when it comes to Valkyrie armour, all I have to ask of the canon version: What protection?
