hey so this blog is 90% for my own entertainment, and 20% to post art but i want to make it clear that this is an anti-racist, anti-police space

i do not, and never will, make or post any batc*st content

transphobia, racism, antisemitism, and islamophobia will not be tolerated!!!

if you believe that media and fandom is apolitical i want you to take a minute to take your head out of your ass and use it to think about how vigilantism is predicated on the carceral state being unable to bring about justice

“To me, the core of that attraction is that she is a better reporter than he is. Think about being Superman for a second. The Olympic record for weightlifting is 1,038 lbs., but you could lift more than that as a child. The record for the 100 meter dash is 9.58 seconds, but you can travel over 51 miles in that time. Going to Vegas? You don’t need your X-Ray vision to win at Blackjack, because you can just count the cards while holding down a conversation about nuclear physics. Without really trying, you are better at just about everything than anyone else in the world. However, (as Mark Waid once pointed out in a podcast with Marv Wolfman) none of that really translates to your chosen profession. Typing really fast does not help your prose. Being able to lift a tank does not help you convince a source to go on record. It is as near to competing straight up with normal people as Superman would ever be capable of. Even then, it comes easily enough to him that you get a pretty lofty perch at a great paper very early in your career. It is just in this one context, there is someone better than you are: Lois Lane. As mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent, you reach up for the first time in your life and she rejects you. To me, it is an inversion of the Luthor story. Luthor sees someone above him and feels hate. Superman sees someone above him and feels love.”

“Bruce Wayne’s superpower is money” Bruce Wayne’s superpower is the ability to actively have a full-fledged panic attack and still look Superman himself dead in the eye without any of his vitals changing. Heart rate is a solid 60 BPM. You can’t even see him breathing. Put some respect on my man’s name.

Fabulous tags. Incredible job, everyone.

bruce haters will present you with a thirty-year-old panel of bruce beating up a drug addict and say here i have undeniable proof that batman is a bad guy actually and if you say don't you think this was politically motivated and says more about the writer than batman himself they will respond with well my favorite character never beat up any drug addicts as part of a misguided attempt by dc to discourage teenagers from abusing methamphetamines in the mid-nineties (not their exact words) and then you have to find a nice way to tell them that their favorite character is culturally insignificant 😔

I hated Bruce ever since he cut his son's neck. Go ahead and explain how that's politically motivated or whatever. I'll wait...

jason should have ducked that's on him

“A kid should be able to draw it with crayons” and “I want to look like a friend” AUGH I am gnawing on the bars of my enclosure

I don’t think people should be allowed to make Superman movies until they prove to me personally that they do not feel a single iota of edgy, irony-poisoned embarrassment about the idea of a guy who is outwardly kind and earnest and, crucially, prioritizes kindness and helpfulness above being perceived as cool by other men. Prove to me personally that you understand the central point of Superman is that the most physically powerful guy in the world, the embodiment of the masculine ideal, has no interest in being perceived as badass—because unlike the average guy, he’s never needed to fantasize about it—and in fact really just wants to be kind and helpful and a protector of the people, which involves interacting with the people, who, on average, are probably easier to interact with if you appear immediately nonthreatening—if your costume is designed to be not scary, your persona literally and figuratively disarming, because the last thing you’ve ever needed to do is compensate for a lack of physical power beneath the suit!

fun little thought: Clark actually does need his glasses bc he's pretty far sighted due to His Eyes Are Optimized for a Different Atmosphere. he gets them pretty young, about when his parents start noticing him squinting when he has to do his homework. the optometrist is a family friend and is not asking any questions about the absolutely bizarre internal structure of the Kent boy's eyes

he doesn't generally need glasses for Superman work bc he's generally not looking at much up close! but there are a couple times he has to hold a bomb at arm's length to try to focus on the innards and it looks so much like what Pa does when he forgets his reading glasses that Kon almost bursts out laughing when he sees it

Guess who got hit with a de-aging beam 👍🏻

Page one text:

Dick: Let’s see, you’ve met ✨me✨, Duke, Dami, Al… who else is around…

Dick: Oh hey! It’s Jason!

Jason: Uh.

Timmy: Jason………. Todd?

Dick: That’s right!! (Wow, good memory!)

Jason: Hi.

Dick: T-TIM?!

Jason does reach out to people it’s just that the reaching out often involves dramatic theatrical violence. The final confrontation in under the red hood was Jason’s version of reaching out to Bruce. It’s not like Bruce was ever going to be the one to be like “hey let’s sit and talk about your death and why you’re mad at me”. Yes it did involve kidnapping and possible murder suicide plans but hey at least he started the dialogue agshshshs
