The mustache one (harry du bois) is the player character and the very first scene in the entire game is him waking up completely drunk and naked save for his fucking tighty whiteys (very not white anymore) with no memory of anything thats happened for the past like 40 years of his life and learning that hes actually a totally delusional, extremely depressed and extremely divorced failure of a cop, who is hated by literally everyone hes ever interacted with and now he has to solve a murder in a week with nothing but self loathing, the asshole voices in his head and the sick stains on his disco blazer

And kim kitsuragi (the bald one). Hes your assigned partner on the case who you meet immediately after the wake up naked scene and he stays with you for pretty much the entire rest of the game. He has this sort of image as the boring straight man but as you go on listening to his dialogue you learn pretty fast that hes actually the sweetest, coolest, nerdiest, gayest, silliest, awesomest guy. He is idolised by both the canon du bois and also just about every person whos ever played the game

Someday I’m gonna need to actually write about this conservative tactic of demanding we basically turn off the part of our brain that interprets words and finds meaning when we talk to them. If they don’t specifically say some exact words, well you can’t respond to those words. You can’t assume JK Rowling is saying she’s a victim of a witch hunt by trans people because she never said those exact words in that exact order.

It’s a fascinating form of intellectual cowardice, where they want to essentially say something without ever being held responsible for saying that thing.
