YAZMIN KAHN COULD BE AN INCREDIBLE CHARACTER

Here’s some things Chibnall could do to develop her in Series 12 because FOR FUCK’S SAKE, CHRIS, STOP WASTING MANDIP:

Yaz meets the Judoon!

Yaz gets separated from the Fam – 13, Ryan and Graham are on the run and Yaz is stuck on a ride-along with the Shadow Proclomation giving chase, trying to stop the Judoon killing them! Buddy-cop episode! Rookie police officer meets alien rent-a-thugs! Is justice universal? Is going by the book always right? Yaz could teach them how to do their jobs better.

Alien prison or underworld!

Police Officer Yaz rubbing shoulders with criminals and pretending to be one could be hilarious. She knows the tricks of the trade from work, impersonating specific human criminals she’s met to get by.

Moral conflicts!

“Being with you, I don’t know what’s right and what’s wrong anymore.”

13’s moral compass is all over the place (Arachnids in the UK) so have positive, law-enforcing, black-and-white Yaz conflict with that! There are no laws travelling with the Doctor, Yaz has to keep scatter-brained 13 in check, and her morality matures – shades of grey are important!

Conflicts with work!

Yaz’s job is much more important to her than Rose’s or Donna’s or Amy’s. Juggling work and the TARDIS could be really fun – 13 gets jealous and starts hanging out at the Station, chatting with Yaz’s colleagues/bosses – think 11 at Craig’s job in The Lodger. 13 wants more time with Yaz (obviously she’s 13’s special favourite) but Yaz takes the Rory line – “what you do isn’t everything there is”

13 as a Consultant!

An episode riffing of Lucifer or Castle, where Yaz gets her first big case and 13 tags along! Yaz’s sensible by-the-book attitude vs 13’s ‘fuck it let’s wave the glowy science stick’ attitude. Involve alien ‘asylum seekers’ living on Earth – the Zygons, or a Trap Street like in Face the Raven. Demons of the Punjab explored Yaz’s family history, so build on it – as a 3rd generation immigrant Yaz relates to the alien kids born here on Earth, and their desire to visit their homeworlds. She felt the same thing with her nan! At the end of the episode she gets 13 to take them for a visit.

Travelling as stress-relief!

As a rookie Yaz is experiencing the grizzlier side of police work for the first time. Her first murder, or meeting a victim’s family, or not catching a criminal. 13 cheers her up when she’s really down; they have a ridiculous adventure and all through it the Fam is trying to make her smile.

Ryan and Yaz’s schoolday friendship!

I just want Yaz making fun of how geeky Ryan was as a kid. Comparing monsters to horrible teachers. Yaz understands his struggle with his Dad and his Dyspraxia because she watched him grow up with them.

Why does 13 Like Yaz?

Because they’re so similar yet so different – both stifled by their families, both wanting to do something more. The Doctor had to grow into their morality – the First Doctor tried to brain a caveman with a rock in An Unearthly Child. Yaz is, unknowingly, an inspiration to 13. She admires Yaz’s goodness. ALSO, Yaz being 13’s guide to her new gender – clothes and makeup – is perfect bomding material, and comedy gold.
