Plot hole in the beginning of the Veilguard that drives me crazy. I'll discuss behind a cut. (Safe to read if you've recruited Bellara)
So I learned two important pieces of Emmrich information since posting my first one-shot (Chiromancy, here's the link!)
First, his father was a butcher and his mother a cook (banter with Harding). Edda was supposed to be a cook. But for various reasons, I don't want her to have the same background as his mother. So she'll be a regular maid who had aspirations to be a housekeeping someday
Then second, I missed a codex entry where Emmrich shares his mother's torte recipe with Lucanis. So the man definitely knows the difference between a cake and a torte, where I had a very important bit of flirting
Ah well. I'm off to make some updates to my fic. I really hope someone is able to extract all the banter soon. I feel like I'm missing so much character development for some of the companions!
(And poor Edda. She's gone through so many changes since I first created her in my head. I'll have to replay her game again soon with all of this in mind!)
ngl, I kinda feel like a hobbit and not a dwarf with this dude lol
Fanfic rule I've created for myself. For every fic or chapter of a fic I write for Veilguard, I need to finish one chapter of my Gae'zel fic
I don't want it to become an unfinished fic that languishes for years. I enjoyed the game and I adored this pairing. And right now, I'm so swept up by Veilguard, that it would be just so easy to forget about my Gae'zel fic
Therefore, today I write Gae'zel. I have the day off, so I'm bribing myself with playing Veilguard. For every 30 minutes of playing, I need to write 500 words. It worked really well yesterday and I hope it'll do the same today!
So who knows? Maybe tomorrow I'll have an update. Wouldn't that be nice? :D
Another reason I need to finish my Gae'zel fic, stat?
Brain space. It's been months since I've played the game regularly, besides the occasional multi-player game (which I can't even do right now because mods are breaking it)
I'm losing the little knowledge that I had about the game. Probably being replaced as we speak with Veilguard facts. For example, it just took me about five minutes to remember Rolan's name to use in the chapter I'm working on. And I liked the dude!
So I am going to make a really big effort to finish this fic by the end of the year. That way I can free up that brain space in my head!

New Fic: Chiromancy
Title: Chiromancy Fandom: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Pairing: Emmrich/Rook Rating: Teen

“I would not mind the chance to engage the text,” he says, moving his hand with the book just out of reach. He flips to a page. “Practical, hands-on demonstration has always been my preferred method of learning.” “Hands on? For palm reading?” “An unintended pun, but appreciated, now that you’ve pointed it out,” Emmrich says with a hint of a smile. “May I read your palm? See how the past and future are etched into your skin?”
(Spoilers for act 2!)
So... I wrote 3,162 today. I haven't written anything since July. I finished my first Emmrich romance one-shot which I'll post tomorrow. And I have an idea for a young Emmrich character study ala Demons, A History, that background fic I wrote for Blackwall
I haven't written much this year, so I am really hoping I can end on a good note!
I have almost two full playthroughs in Veilguard and TIL that you can use the wardrobe for the companions as well. It's not just for Rook!
Oh no
Multi-chaptered fic idea incoming. Mourn Watch Rook decides that she wants to join Emmrich in lichdom. For twenty-five years she studies and prepares for the ritual
The other lich lords refuse to let Emmrich judge if she is worthy, rightfully declaring that he is too close to the situation to see clearly. But after enough time, they say she is ready to join them as a lich
Rook only has one request: that Emmrich is the one to server her soul from her body. Which he accepts immediately, because he wouldn't trust his love's life to anyone else
But then it goes wrong
Rook dies in the ritual and doesn't attain lichdom. She doesn't even become half lich. She is dead
And the Necropolis is about to find out just how far a lich lord is willing to go to bring his lover back to life
I love this scene a ridiculous amount. And a Mourn Watch Rook just hits different, you know? Don't get me wrong, I love Edda and Emmrich with all my heart. But thankfully my heart is elastic and can fit Sonnet and Emmrich too!
One last Rook and I'm done making Rooks for a while. This is Daahir Ingellvar, a warrior Reaper. He's had a crush on Harding since they met, and maybe some day, he'll have the guts to do something about it
I've decided that he's an older Rook, late 30s, and that he and Harding will be a double sunshine couple. I'm using the masculine British voice for him, which means I now have at least one Rook for each voice actor
(I tried to make him look like William Jackson Harper. I think I did okay!)
I need some combat help from anyone who's finished the quest 'Fire and Ice' and plays on a PC, please! (That quest is around the start of act 2, level 35ish)
Putting it under a cut cause spoilers
So I'm curious about the different Rook performances, so it's time to make some new OCs. This is Yìchén Mercar, a former casteless dwarf who was smuggled to the surface through the dwarven ambassador's offices in Minrathous. A family 'adopted' him (aka sponsored him) once he made it to the surface
The Shadow Dragons helped him out and he's used his henchman background for them ever since. Someone almost always deserves a beatdown and Yìchén is happy to provide that service. Though he does always try to talk things through first
He's going to romance Neve. I'm using the masculine American voice, which I've not heard anywhere so far. We'll see how it goes!
Ooh, brutal run is interesting so far. Solas actually sounded pleased with his 'quite right' when Oanez dismissed him
And I love Solas giving as good as he gets. 'Do you intend to knock over a statue?'
Knowing Oanez? Maybe
I love how short you can make elves! Oanez is basically a walking stereotype of 'angry smol'
I'm still in Minrathous, but I can already tell I'm going to love them very, very much
